Test Cricket 2012

On the radio it said Broad was injured, so why was he playing?

Two match series are a waste of time.

Pretty gutting that.

Why we have made changes to the number 1 side in the world I have no idea. Patel isn't good enough and Monty just doesn't fit into the ethos of everything this side was built on.

Finn and Morgan should be starting.

Because we need more spin options in the sub continent, it was a problem in the UAE and it is something we need to learn if we are going to be number one in the world and that is how to win in the subcontinent and on turning wickets. Morgan has been on borrowed time for a while, he hasn't performed, I don't think Patel is the answer as he wasn't very good with the bat and wasn't trusted much with the ball. Swann, Monty and Patel is excessive spin and not enough batting, we need a Collingwood (when he was good), someone who is a batsman, but can bowl 10-15 tight overs an inning. But our bowling wasn't the problem, it was our batting we need to stop giving away our wickets with stupid shots, when we have 6 sessions to make 300 runs we don't need to be playing risky shots, all of our wickets were given away rather than earnt and that is what makes it so frustrating.

On the flip side you don't want to be batting on a pitch like that on day 5. There's gotta be a balance between either going for the 340 quick or just taking too much time and inviting pressure.

Yet again it has been proved we are not good players of spin, when the Test side play at home we play on pitches which suit our teams strengths and we are used to the conditions, when we play away its a different story, pitches are prepared to suit the home side and when we play in the sub-continent it means turning pitches and it should be no surprise we struggle on this type of pitch, with the exception of Hampshires Rose Bowl English pitches rarely turn so our players lack the opportunity to play and get used to quality spin bowling. I can think of no other sport where the pitch plays such an important role in the outcome of the game.

You can bowl 3-4 quicks on these pitches still, that's our strength and we should stick to it, Swann can tie up an end and you could even rotate Patel-KP if the pitch completely disintegrates.

The problem with Monty is everything we strived to be in terms of a ruthless fielding outfit goes out the window, his two calamitous drops of Jayawadene which a school cricketer takes cost us around 100 runs. You simply can't carry these players in international cricket anymore.

Bresnan and Finn in for Broad and Monty please, despite the pitches preference for turners lets not forget how we got to number 1 and how brilliant Finn was on even flatter decks in Pakistan.

Haha classic, good work. What do flights cost from England anyway?

Plus booking so late flights aren't going to be at there cheapest. Wish i had the coin and the balls just to go to the West Indies and watch Australia play, it would be quality........don't think work would like it tho.

got them struggling at 30-3...now 120-3

Very similar to the last test, but much tighter bowling, only extras were Prior letting one through his legs, and no dropped catches.

I think the changes were right, Monty may be a better bowler than Patel but Patel offers more with the bat and in the field and Monty's dropped catches were crucial last test. If he is there as a bowler and is used as a bowler fair enough, but to barely bowl he doesn't offer enough with the bat to justify his inclusion.

We will see if we can capitalise tomorrow get them out cheap and then we need a batsman to make a score.

Wow a solid opening partnership, could this be the massive score we have been needing all winter?

Edit: well that put the mockers on it, still a good start with the bat, lets hope Trott is in the mood to block his way to another century.

12o odds behind. Bar a batting collapse in the second innings, a draw in the series is on the cards.

Watch a fair bit of it yesterday, was easily one of the most boring days of cricket i've seen 1 wicket in 66 overs and only 154 runs. I love test cricket but probably cos i was a neutral i found it quite boring, i don't mind slow run rates etc but it didn't seem like much of a battle out there just pure slow non aggressive batting.

We could sort of really do with a win. Entertaining Aussies probably wasn't Strauss' main idea :P

It worked for them but to me it just shows how low on confidence they are. I know Cook and Trott aren't aggresive batsmen at the best of times, but i thought the batting conditions were favourable and there was certaintly many loose balls that were there to be put away thay weren't.

We are just not confident on these pitches, and every time we take a risk we lose a wicket, it is a 5 day game and that is true test cricket, play yourself in and once you have a read of the pitch and the bowlers you can get after them, (look at KP at the moment) but because of the previous tests our batsman are not feeling truly in.

Happy with KP then? ;)
