purpleronnie Posted 20 May 2012 Posted 20 May 2012 Never understood why a top rated batsmen can't come in and bat no matter what stage of the match it is....night watchman....outdated, not needed, waste of time.
Guest MattP Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Why on earth would you send out a top batsman at 6 at night to face a new ball? Nightwatchman are used for a reason. It's not outdated its common sense.
ScouseFox Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Won by 5 wkts. Cook and Bell steadied the ship with 50s each and Cook went with just two needed on 79.
Corky Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Better match than I thought it would be, we'll get more out of this than a thumping win.
Guest MattP Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Comfortable in the end, anyone going Trent Bridge this weekend?
Voll Blau Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Comfortable in the end, anyone going Trent Bridge this weekend? Think I'm off to Headingley later in the summer instead.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 I am saving up for one or more Ashes tests next year, Trent Bridge especially is an absolute must. How much was it last time round? I was too skint to even contemplate it then.
Guest MattP Posted 21 May 2012 Posted 21 May 2012 Think I'm off to Headingley later in the summer instead. Yeah I'm doing that test as well.

Think it was 75 last time, it's usually about 50-55 for any other country, they said I went out to Sydney for the last tour and they charged us 140 dollars each so it could be worse....

Captive audience though aren't we really. England are pretty much the only country who take significant numbers to Tests elsewhere.

You`ll be looking at £80/100+, but when you take Leicester Citys prices for 90 minutes of play into account, £80/100 for 7+ hours of an Ashes day out is very good value . Hoping to go with my lad, We`ve not been to a test since India toured in 2007. Trent bridge is great and the all day drinking is a plus . Go through the ECB and not some ticket tout site.

A day or all 5 days, Thinking about heading over for the ashes but all depends on a few things coming together.
buzzy Posted 22 May 2012 Posted 22 May 2012 Comfortable in the end, anyone going Trent Bridge this weekend? yes going saturday, monday [still awaiting tickets to arrive] and tuesday if it goes that far has you get in for free if you go on the monday
Captain... Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 Mate phoned me on Wednesday saying there were tickets left for Sunday at trent Bridge, so I am going on Sunday, looks like it could end up being won on day 3 the way we are going today, Shriv out, could all be out by tea, should be a good shout for £40. Another one gone, 6 down, it may not even get to Sunday. Why on earth would you send out a top batsman at 6 at night to face a new ball? Nightwatchman are used for a reason. It's not outdated its common sense. It's only common sense if you have someone who is good at it, Jason Gillespie was a good nightwatchman, Anderson isn't.

If your a top batsmen you should be able to bat at anytime.
Captain... Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 If your a top batsmen you should be able to bat at anytime. It depends on the conditions, I mean I wouldn't want KP opening the batting with the new ball, in the last test, Trott or Anderson, when the ball isn't really doing all that much, and the only difference between batting at 10 to 6 and at 11am is the pressure, then it should have been Trott. When the ball is swinging around under the clouds as the evening draws in and the light is going, then it is clearly much harder to bat than under blue skies the following morning, at those times you have a choice of risking a match winner like KP, but not the most disciplined batsman, or sticking in a low order batsman who is very good at just blocking the ball for 3 overs to take the strike, protect KP and whoever is at the other end during a dangerous time in the innings then it makes sense.
ScouseFox Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 Well that last session has put a cat amongst the pigeons. Good batting.
Voll Blau Posted 25 May 2012 Posted 25 May 2012 Can see us winning but again it's good to see the Windies compete. It's no fun beating a shit team (unless they wear baggy green).
Corky Posted 26 May 2012 Posted 26 May 2012 West Indies all out for 370, England 8-0 after 5 overs at lunch. This West Indies side are putting up a real fight, far better than India in 2011.
