Zingari Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 You'd love that wouldn't you. Tonkin Mk II. Surely the Yanks wouldn't be that stupid... actually it could be mark 3 you've forgotten USS Liberty
Zingari Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 i scored 14 out of 20 on that test people will be unable to maintain a logical train of thought and will just post random stuff on the internet and will gradually lose the ability to post replies in the correct threads
OzFox Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 actually it could be mark 3 you've forgotten USS Liberty eh? wot?? Hadn't even heard of that one. My prediction for the future is that you'll still be digging up conspiracies for years to come. I think I'm onto a winner

Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 Due to the amount of old people selfishly staying alive I predict the retirement age will be 90 by the year 2050, if not the government will have to have a cull of anyone over the age of 50. A member of the royal family will have to appear on celebrity Big Brother to try and increase their public popularity. The Premier league will consist of only 8 big (selfish) clubs, cutting adrift the rest of the football league, no relegation. Human beings will have massive thumbs due to the increase in use (gaming, texting etc etc) Our country will become so overcrowded there will not be enough oxygen to go around, therfore providing a perfect solution for my first prediction.
Captain... Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 I predict that at some point someone will realise that with all the advancements we are making in technology and the added efficiency we have at our disposal means that we don't need as many people to work as many hours as before whilst achieveing the same levels of service and productivity. The avergae working will come down to 25-30 hours, but more people will be in employment, wages will remain the same pro rata, everyone will have more free time and less money, all the savings made by cutting the work force will be passed on to the consumers and everything will be cheaper because they cost less, and with everyone having less money they will not buy pointless expensive crap. All media content will become free on the internet, destroying big controlling corporations and opening up the arts to the people, nobody will make any money from films and music so only those that want to make it will make it, and not soulless corporate puppets getting rammed down our throats. The world will realise that if we work as one there is no problem we can't overcome, if we put aside ego and vested interests and start working together for the greater good we can acheive anything. I don't expect this to happen any time soon though.

They've been saying we'll be working shorter hours and retiring earlier for years and yet the retirement age is about to rise, oh and I remember on the discovery of North Sea Oil talk of free heating and virtually free driving. I expect the internet access to get cheaper/free but access to the content to become more controlled and ever more expensive.
Webbo Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 They tried having a maximum 35 hour week in France but they had to stop it because it didn't work and cost a fortune.
Captain... I expect the internet access to get cheaper/free but access to the content to become more controlled and ever more expensive. I will expect the costs of media to be forced upon the internet providers at some point, they will never beat the pirates, a spotify type deal with the providers could be the only solution, it doesn't matter how cheap it gets to buy a song or watch a film, once you can do it free you will do. Everyone's internet will become significantly more expensive but everyone will have access to everything, it will be beautiful. As for working hours, it does drive me crazy, maybe because I am someone who would much rather be time rich than money rich, but imagine there are lets say for the sake of convenience 20% of the workforce is unemployed, everyone works 20% less, and earns 20% less, but everyone has a job, it would also get a lot of people off benefits money saved can be pumped back into stimulating the economy or supporting the film and music industry, simples, as those loveable meerkats like to say. The main problem at the moment is that companies are making such a ham fisted job of utilising technology to support them that they end up costing more money and becoming more time consuming, and requiring more workers to deal with it. This is why it is a prediction for the future.
Stadt Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 The Germans to win the Euro's, well they already have all of the money counter-parts
Captain... Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 They tried having a maximum 35 hour week in France but they had to stop it because it didn't work and cost a fortune. That doesn't really solve the problem, it is not a significant reduction in hours and I am sure that it was exploited by companies to only pay people for 35 hours when they were working more. "Je Suis Desole, but I can't pay you for zeez 10 'ours you av worked of overtime, because you 'av already worked 35 'ours" It also seems ridiculous that there are lots of unemployed and so many people working unpaid overtime, I easily rack up about 10 hours overtime a month and I'm a lazy workshy bum. There are people I work with who are always in the office an extra hour (probably more but I am never there to see it) every day.

The thing is some firms are busier at some times of the year than others. It makes more sense to pay some of your workers overtime at times rather than employ 2 extra people, for example, who will be twiddling their thumbs for 6 months of the year.
Captain... Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 The thing is some firms are busier at some times of the year than others. It makes more sense to pay some of your workers overtime at times rather than employ 2 extra people, for example, who will be twiddling their thumbs for 6 months of the year. Of course that makes sense, but does it not also make sense to have a larger flexible workforce, imagine a working week is 5 days, and everyone on the workforce only works 4 days, there would need to be a cross-over of knowledge, so that on one's off day there is someone who knows their job (which should always be the case but there rarely is). Now during the off season when you are at capacity with everyone working 4 days great, then when things pick up you already have the trained workforce there to work an extra day. Any extra days worked can then be had off in lieu when things are quieter, still at no detriment to the work force because you have someone who covers your job. Likewise when one is on holiday there is someone to pick up any slack if necessary. At the end of the year any days owed get paid. Flexibility is something seriously lacking in the modern workforce we are so constrained by Monday to Friday 9-5 that it is to the detriment of our society. I also think that more and more people will start working from home, there is no need for many people to actually be in the office just to sit in front of a computer and man a phone, all of these things could be done from home and would do away with such things as commuting and rush hour, large expensive offices, and also save time and allow parents to work from home and look after children. We really are not taking advantage of the technology we have.
jjno1 Posted 10 February 2012 Posted 10 February 2012 The world will be overpopulated, it already is but will be worse - The poorer nations will establish them selfs to not need aid and have fresh water everyday and food. Cures are being made daily, and soon enough organs will be cloned so there are always spare parts, Older people are staying alive longer and babies are being born left right and centre. In most countries there are not enough houses and not enough jobs as they are over populated. Fossil fuels will then run out countries will be fighting for the last remaining causeing mayhem. I personally think this is what will happen in the future

I personally think this is what will happen in the future Why do we need jobs? No other anmals need monetarily rewarded thankless tasks to survive, jobs are not a pre-requisite to life. Although if we do keep on pooping* out progeny then that will create more jobs, to build the houses and school and make the clothes and farm the food to provide for this ever increasing population until we destroy all of the planets resources, in essence that is the capitalist way. Growth until exhaustion/saturation. At some point in the future we will realise that there are only limited resources and start making things to last, start using things until they function no more and stop being driven by fashion and status. That will probably come after the global holocaust though. *I meant to write popping but I am leaving it at pooping as it paints a much more vivid image of childbirth.
Rincewind Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 In a perfect world, there would be no need for jobs. We would all work together live the same way and be friendly towards each other. Will that happen? No. We are human, we have differences argue about who has the best invisible friend (god) an thinking one deserves more because another deserves less. There will always be those that will put in less effort for the same award. Maybe it will take a Global Disaster for Mankind to realise this. Maybe another ice age leaving just a partial populatiian in one corner of the world. The world can the start again with Mankind learning from mistakes made before. This may be several millions years in the future though when we eventually get things righty but by then the sun will be on its last legs. We will not be around in body but our rotting corpses will regenerate to feed future plantlife and animals. On a more pleasant note Leicester will win the FA cup within the next 50 years and I shall visit the New-New Wembley at the young age of 110 with my 5 wives.
flowwolf Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Man will find a cure for cancer like he did for small pox. But mother nature will just smile and say " well I will have to think up something else to keep the population down won't I ! " and she will.

Erm, there is no cure for smallpox, we eliminated by vaccinating against it, but once you've got it there is no cure, there is also no cure for flu, or the common cold, so I wouldn't be so sure we will find a cure for cancer, at the moment the best hopes are by finding the causes and eliminating them and identifying those at risk, catching it early is the only real chance you have.

Not cure but I wouldn't bet against selective birth gene profiles helping to appear to eliminate most diseases.
Webbo Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 Eventually we will manage to create fusion energy, cheap, clean energy and most of the world problems will be solved. We'll be able to desalinate sea water to irrigate the deserts meaning more space and food for the increasing population and the oil/gas producing countries won't have us by the short and curlies.
21st Century Fox Posted 11 February 2012 Posted 11 February 2012 We'll have TV game shows like The Running Man or Rollerball within the next 10 years.
