Stadt Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 The test is changing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18662531
ADK Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Right so the tiny amount of stuff that might possibly be useful to someone moving to the UK or indeed anyone is being scrapped in favour of more of the totally pointless crap that already makes up most of the "test".
Rincewind Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 Well I suppose one way of cutting down the number of people entering the UK is to ask them questions about France. Brownie points to whoever is in power.
hairy Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 It appears that even the Prime Minister cannot pass this test http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/sep/27/david-cameron-letterman-late-show
Captain... Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 It appears that even the Prime Minister cannot pass this test http://www.guardian....erman-late-show Probably because he was not given the book to study, unlike everybody else who takes the test, and they cherry picked the hardest and most obscure questions. The point is not to show how much a person knows about British culture, but if they have read and understood the booklet that is given to people who want to take the test. By reading and understanding and agreeing to uphold the values of the land and understand its ways, you have to prove that you actually know what you are agreeing to, and have given it the necessary due care and attention to learn this information.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 27 September 2012 Posted 27 September 2012 I wonder if Barack Obama would know who composed the Star Spangled Banner? In fairness to Cameron (whom generally I'm not fond of) Rule Brittania is not our anthem and I'm guessing many Americans will now be going, "the British King doesn't even know his own national anthem!" Edit: If he'd been prepped he could have pointed out that the music to the Star Spangled Banner was written by an Englishman.

TBH Obama probably would, from my experience a lot of Americans know those sort of things, it seems to go hand in hand with their patriotism, something we tend to frown upon, so it would bve strange to an American that we wouldnt know that sort of thing.
