Is it homophobic that I find being called gay offensive?

I assumed you were a fashion designer so you work in and around closets all day.

Posted

Yes it is, because you associate being gay as negative.

Ermmm how can I put this... I don't think being gay is 'negative', I just don't think it's as good as being straight... lol reading it back does sound a bit homophobic to be fair.

And Soccerroo, trying to wind me up by implying I'm gay is surely homophobic also? :S

Don't try to get on your high horse with me after a light hearted joke. It just makes you appear more homophobic than your recent posts.

Offence is chosen to be taken by the person on the end of the insult not by the one doing the insulting, I could call you English, based on what I know of you, you are a Leicester fan, I think it is safe to assume, but maybe you are actually Scottish and take great offence to being called English. That is not my fault I didn't mean to cause offence but you took offence because you are anti-English.

Now if I continue to call you English because I know it winds you up, then I am showing traits of being anti Scottish, but actually I am just taking advantage of a weakness you have displayed and the chance to wind you up, so I am being anti-acooling08, or acooling08aphobia as I believe the technical term is.

From what i've seen us straight acting gays are the minority, which is a shame because i can't stand overly camp, so my love life options are very limited :glare:

****'s sake, just get yourself over here to a proper country and I'm sure we'd have a whale of a time. Two gays, two City fans - couldn't possibly be anything other than brilliant...

Not sure I agree with you, I think it's more to do with the context and the presumed intent of the insulter.

For instance, if I was having a pleasant conversation with a nice gay man and he called me '****ing gay', I wouldn't be particularly offended.

But if a steroid-loving EDL member was chasing me down the street with a stick shouting '****ing gay', I probably would be.

If somebody called me a fanny, I might be offended but it wouldn't make me anti-vagina!

Good thing for you he is already in Leicester.

But I'm in Manchester! Even though he is in the UK, thanks to our ceaselessly brilliant rail network, Manchester to Gold Coast City is probably marginally easier and cheaper on the train than Manchester to Leicester...

I’d be ok about going to a gay wedding , but I might not be able to suppress a little giggle when the preacher starts talking about slipping rings on fingers and stuff

But it is not the words that are offending you at is the actions, I would also wager that you would not be so much offended as shit scared in scenario 2, and you would feel equally offended and scared if he called you anything else instead of gay.

But obviously context is also important, if I am down the pub and refused a beer on the next round because I'm feeling a bit pissed and bloated and ask for a glass of water, and my mates call me gay, I wouldn't be offended.

Whereas if I am playing football and do a Paul Gallagher (by that I mean pull out of a challenge and not fire in a 30 yard a screamer) and the opposition winger who had skipped past me and rifled one in, came back and called me a poof, then I would be pissed off, but with myself and not him, and I would take it as an affront to my masculinity and probably take him out the next time he tried to go past me, and maybe blow him a kiss as he hobbled off, but I wouldn't be offended as such, but then I am not easily offended.

Superb analogies! Oh Gally, bless him.

Maybe you should read the previous 12 pages of this thread mate.

Haven't got time to read about something that I totally disagree with.

And therein lies the problem. You are not prepared to try to educate yourself on the subject and maybe see things from a different perspective. Instead, just carry on with you pre-conceived, ill-judged presumptions.

Either way gays, you will get what you want eventually!

Over the years to come it will happen for certain as society becomes more liberal, and backward thinking right wing cvnts like myself die out.

That is of course assuming that the country doesn't become majority muslim, then you're all dead, literally! :P

And yet you have time to post on a thread on a forum about it, if you have a completely closed mind then why even bother opening the thread, you even had the anonymous option to just vote no and leave it at that, but you have decided to go out of your way to make sure we all know you are a bigot and then continue to argue the toss. Great use of time mate.

Some people love to show off their ignorance. It's like a badge of honour that relatively intelligent, reasoned human beings could never, ever achieve.
