Cheltenham Festival 2012

Not long away now!

Can't wait, tempted (As always) to book the afternoons off to watch it, although last year wasn't too bad as I could listen to it on the radio.

Do well with Cheltenham usually, Normally i'm down the first half of the week (Badly down) but then somehow always seem to pull it back into profit the last 2 days - With thanks down to Albertas Run and Forpaddeplasterer mainly, so this year i'm hoping I can have profit with some consistancy throughout this year.

Don't normally do ante-post bets, I like to wait till the day or atleast the night before but i'm considering betting on Kauto Star ante-post especially with all this talk of him being injured/touch and go (Meaning his odds are a drifting - only slightly), I'm thinking it's abit of a ploy that people will underestimate him and he'll go on and win, I hope anyway.

Anyway all Cheltenham talk and tips can be put in here.

From a racing fans point of view which is more prefered the Cheltnham or Ascot festival?

Cheltenham no doubt about it.

Cheltenham. Nothing compares to jump racing

Going to the first day of this, with the rest of the week booked off to watch on tv. Ridiculously excited.

Not a fan of ante post betting and don't normally even start looking at horses until the Sunday before and it's the same this year.

If anyone does fancy a bit of an ante post bet then i've got something for you.

Call The Police in the Jewson @ 11/1 and Carlito Brigante in the Coral Cup at 16/1

They will go off a lot shorter than this and i'm getting on now. Willie Mullins has got Call The Police in unbelievable nick and it's the horse he's most excited about because of this.

Brigante won at 20/1 last year in this and again, it'll run a big race. I'm on each way singles and an each way double.

I've booked the whole week off for it, as of yet I think i'm only going to one of the days but it depends how I am financially. They never check your train ticket from Paddington to Cheltenham as it's too fookin busy so there's £50 saved!

I wonder if Albertas Run can do it again? 9/1 is very low for a horse that's been injured and not had a run prior to Cheltenham and it's injury this season. I'll back it regardless but i'll also have a saver on Somersby if it runs.

Will be there on Gold Cup day, can't wait! Been building a little portfolio for a couple of weeks now!

A mate stands to win £1,200 if Hurricane Fly wins on the Tuesday, so will be cheering that home for sure

I've rented a house in Cheltenham for the week and got tickets for all 4 days!

So excited, I can't wait! Only ante post bets so far is a treble on day one with Sprinter Sacre, The Fly and Quevega, then I have an accumulator involving Sizing Europe and Big Bucks too.

What a week you're gonna have mate. How much dough you set aside for it? Fookin hell.

Taking a grand, did the same last year and came back with less than a tenner, so bloody hoping this year will be a bit more successful!

More than welcome to kip on the floor, already 9 of us sharing a 3 bed house :) Should be a right laugh.

I miss living in Cheltenham :(

Race week was always amazing, getting to laugh at the posh twats throwing their money around in town to try and attract the ladies, and watching them fail miserably, then fall face first out of the vodka bar after trying to be big shots mwahahahaha.

Looking forward to it, if anyone wants a pint I'm staying in the pub/hotel opposite the train station on thurs and friday night, going to the meeting on thursday and friday, can't wait. Just praying Kauto gets his chance to run in the Gold Cup to cap off an incredible season.

Can see all the usual's winning, Big Bucks, Quevaga, all over Sprinter Sacre, looks an absolute beast.

If you think Cheltenham is bad you want to see Ascot.

Cheltenham is the festival. No other meeting is even referred to being one except Punchestown. Ascot, Aintree are all "meetings" Chelts is a genuine "festival".

Haha, I would probably spontaneously combust around some of the people at Ascot lol.

Not everyone at Cheltenham is a penis though, obviously, the majority are really sound. I met some quality people that went and had some great laughs with some of them, its just the small percentage that were so up themselves, throwing daddys money around etc etc. I seem to remember Channel 4 (I think), even did a small documentary a couple of years ago, following around a group of lads around during the festival and they were complete tossers lol.

I'll still be paying attention when I can, and having a wee fluter here and there. It would be rude not to

Yeah 90% of the people I meet at Chelt are great, usually genuine racing fans who follow the game all year round, nothing worse than a group turning up who dont watch any National Hunt all year then start to tout themselves around as experts during Cheltenham week.

I went to Ascot once, never again.

Will take the bank card just in case but genuinely hoping to make some profit this year! I do Need to learn some self control however, spent a fortune on Champagne last time celebrating winners throughout the week. Don't bloody like the stuff either, makes me far too gassy haha!

That's the problem, whatever profit you make will get drunk away anyway!

I can't see them all winning, it very rarely happens. The 3 you've mentioned however are formiddable. Sizing Europe and Hurricane Fly I have questions about though, as I do about Long Run who I think will get beat regardless of whether Kauto runs or not (which he will do, no question)

Oscar Well E/W for the Champion's Hurdle

Rubi Light for the Ryanair

and of of course Grand Crus, for some reason I don't want Long Run to get near it this year

Personally can't wait for flats to start again(National Hunt will always be better), just want to see Frankel again, a pure beast.

I can't back the Fly this year, the value was last year at 5-2 and he was a better horse last season.

Would be amazed if Big Bucks or Quevaga was turned over.

Grands Crus for the gold cup!

It's possible. Would be incredible for a horse to start a season in novice chases and end up winning a Gold Cup.

Hope he steps Frankel up to 1m4 this year.

National better? :-|

after a pretty successful year last year (an albertus run/junior double) going to have a few quid again this year and see if I can pay for my season ticket again. Paddy Power are offering your stake back in the Arkle if sprinter sacre wins. Ruby on Al Ferof at 5/2 is worth a few quid of anyone's money, he is confident that it will run a close race and if it doesn't you get your money back anyway.

I meant National Hunt, of course the National isn't better than Cheltenham or The Derby for that matter.
