Knighton Matt Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 "GERRBRAND STAYS IN HAMMARBY - FOR THE TIME BEING"From Hammarby's official site: "Patrik Gerrbrand will not be sold to the English team Leicester at this time. - The board of Hammarby Fotboll AB has declined the latest offer. However, this does not mean that the deal is not to be. If there is an offer that is fair and in line with what he is worth, we are interested, says Hammarby Fotboll CEO Henrik Appelqvist." The transfer offer that was rumored in Swedish media was in the vicinity of 400 000-500 000 Euros. Hammarby coach Anders Linderoth said to a Swedish newspaper today that it would be insane to release Gerrbrand for anything less than twice that amount. http://www.hammarbyfotboll.se/se/aktuellt/...articleid=27717 133043 It doesn't really say the deal is off, it just appears we need to offer them more money. Maybe we could suggest a straight swap with the 'highly sought after' matt heath

He was on trial for Hammarby in the 2003 preseason (Sweden plays spring-fall), looked pretty impressive, but too expensive salary-wise at the time.
Babylon Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 So why did Tim Davies say it was almost a done deal? 133052 he's a fat little liar

Gené and Tonic Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 A bit gutted really, he could have been a great signing. I can't really see where Levein is going to get the money from. Although he will have some in the kitty from Stewarts transfer, then hopefully Caneros, Heaths and Wrights will raise enough.
Ric Flair Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 This is really shit news. Really ****in shit, i'm so ****in annoyed. Now we've got to go through the whole process of finding another centre half, being linked with them, dragging on for days and then possibly signing them. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH Matt Heath

shen Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 So why did Tim Davies say it was almost a done deal? 133052 he's a fat little liar 133053 I'd like to bury a ****in axe in his cannister if this turns out to be true. Seething. 133055 I can imagine Hammarby had given Leicester permission to talk to Patrik, and those negotiations went well...all that was needed was the negotiation with Hammarby and the fee. TD and Leicester obviously valued Gerrbrand to be around the mark that they bid for him, so they didn't see any problems there... Or he was just being too optimistic...
mmmkay Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 You'll have to consider Hammarby's situation as well to understand why the bid was turned down flat. Swedish clubs are in mid-season, and Gerrbrand is obviously one of the centre-backs in our first XI. The other starting centre-back, Iceland national team captain Petur Marteinsson broke his leg during the World Cup qual against Hungary in June. He'll obviously be out for some time. Another defender in the starting XI, Swedish National Team player Alexander Östlund, was sold to Feyenoord in the preseason, and not replaced. Even with Gerrbrand, Hammarby only have five defenders in the squad who are fit to play. Hammarby was considered a serious contender for the title before the season started, but hasn't performed very well, and run a slight risk of relegation. To basically give away one of the team's key players at that time would be absurd. Wouldn't you think so if it was your club?
Molson Canadian Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 oh well i'm sure CL has some other players lined up but i am disappointed we couldn't manage to land him
Gené and Tonic Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 Any chance of getting him in January then? Like signing a pre-contract agreement? I highly suspect Levein will go for someone else now though.

Ric Flair Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 £300,000 could get you 2 or 3 defenders for your level. Let us have him
Ric Flair Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 If I was Levein i'd now throw £300,000 at Mansfield's Alex Baptiste. Young, quick and very ambitious.

Libertine Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 Baptiste has just moved somewhere I'm sure, but can't remember where.

Ric Flair Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 Baptiste has just moved somewhere I'm sure, but can't remember where. 133126 No he hasn't. Sheffield United put a £150,000 bid in but it was turned down. They want £250-300,000 for him. I think some premiership teams have been linked with him last season aswell.
Simon Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 I thought we'd have to bid a bit higher then that. Here's be my plan- sell Matt Heath and Tommy Wright and use the money from that and the Stewart transfer- should be enough to get him (around 400 thou- 800 thou euros if I'm right?)
Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 July 2005 Posted 6 July 2005 How many of us have seen the guy play? Me, no. He sounds pretty good but you'd have to be a bit on the unhinged side to get worked up about missing out on a player you've never seen before and I can't believe that many, if any, Leicester fans that use this forum have seen Gerrbrand play. Calm down dears.

On a serious note - Wolfsburg are after him - he can't be bad really can he? What's more if we are willing to pay enough he has said hed rather come and play in England so you have to fancy our chances if we drop the tight-arse approach ..

Yes, it might be frustrating if we miss out on a player or two but I think safety-first is a good policy at this point in time. Let's not forget that even under Adams we were signing players like Morris and Canero for six-figure fees. Levein appears to have a long-term plan and the club is going through a period of change where throwing money at players isn't an option. Although if Forest can spend £350,000 on a player this week then anything should be possible.
