Most of the time people on here seem like normal folks who live in the real world.

Then they get offended by the term 'chink' and it changes my opinion completely.

Seriously, 'I'm having a Chinky' is a rare phrase to you people? Do you live in caves? Are you 5?

Try not to cry about it, is the term 'Argie' not allowed either? If I used the word 'Kraut' to describe a German I'm sure few would protest.

No, I simply use the same logic that stops me saying "I'm going for a disgusting, brownie raghead" when I want an Indian.

Sounds like you're making assumptions a valid comparison to my statement there by using different racial slurs.

Brownie and raghead wouldn't apply anyway because they're not hateful slurs against the Chinese, but (unless you're rather naive) disgusting is very much implied.

To be fair I cant say I have. But the point im making is he didnt mean anything by it and its really not that bad. Yes I agree there are better words but is there need for such a slating by people who then go on to abuse coalville? Really? Pot Kettle Black.

Look, for a start, chink is an offensive racial slur for Chinese people. They have always, always found it offensive, it is no better than calling someone a wog, a paki, a kike, a nigger or anything else. Just because it has taken longer to be culturally banished (although, to be fair, I know almost nobody that says they're "going to the Chinky" any more) that doesn't mean that it says more about the phrase itself than British attitudes to East Asian people.

SECONDLY, even if the phrase were just a minor bit of slang (akin to calling me a sheep shagger or Foxy a paddy) then Stu would still be being massively presumptuous using the term for any East-Asian person, given I highly he doubt he went "Oh mate, nice Torres t-shirt, oh by the way from which country do your family originate?" He has no idea if the bloke is Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese or anything else and by failing to make the distinction (in the same way as singing Yuki Abe eats ****ing dogs) you are being inherently racist.

But of course, I'm just being ridiculously overly PC. :rolleyes:

What do you mean "exactly?" He isn't defending you, he's implying you're too stupid to learn.

Which I don't believe you are or anyone is. Maybe I have too much faith in people and too much faith in you, I've no idea, but I'm not about to stop challenging people's attitudes to race when they're simply being outright ignorant. I appreciate by being volatile about it I'm not exactly doing my best to convince you to change your ways.

But take it from me, it is an offensive term, it has always been an offensive term and it will do you no harm at all to stop using it.

And no, I'm not Chinese, though I've plenty of friends who are and whom are Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese and believe me I'd really, REALLY love to see you call any of them Chinks to their faces. But then somehow I don't suppose you ever would... not that it's an offensive term or anything, eh Stu?

My dad(who is 63) still says "fancy a chinky tonight" and he will often follow it with "i couldnt eat a whole one though".

The thing is Finnegan, paki and wog is used maliciously. There's no denying that whatsoever. To my uneducated mind 'chinky' is different. As is calling someone a jock or paddy. Some find it offensive, others don't. As for bilo on about 'ragheads' its an old argument, one he knows nothing about and something I can't be bothered going into again.
