NeilyBoy Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Most of the time people on here seem like normal folks who live in the real world. Then they get offended by the term 'chink' and it changes my opinion completely. Seriously, 'I'm having a Chinky' is a rare phrase to you people? Do you live in caves? Are you 5? Try not to cry about it, is the term 'Argie' not allowed either? If I used the word 'Kraut' to describe a German I'm sure few would protest. No, I simply use the same logic that stops me saying "I'm going for a disgusting, brownie raghead" when I want an Indian.

I once got called a Brit whilst in the states, ggrrrr I was livid.
Kitchandro Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 No, I simply use the same logic that stops me saying "I'm going for a disgusting, brownie raghead" when I want an Indian. Sorry, but where in the phrase 'I'm getting a chinky' do the words 'disgusting', 'brownie' or 'raghead' exist? Sounds like you're making assumptions there.
21st Century Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d0nNS_zjds If it wasn't mildly offensive this wouldn't make sense.
Out Foxed Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 If I used the word 'Kraut' to describe a German I'm sure few would protest. I'd sigh and think "we really need to move on from this boorish in-ger-lund" shite.
NeilyBoy Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Sorry, but where in the phrase 'I'm getting a chinky' do the words 'disgusting', 'brownie' or 'raghead' exist? Sounds like you're making assumptions a valid comparison to my statement there by using different racial slurs. Brownie and raghead wouldn't apply anyway because they're not hateful slurs against the Chinese, but (unless you're rather naive) disgusting is very much implied.
Petchy Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 I'd rather talk about Leicester City, than what is or isn't 'PC' in today's world.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Brownie and raghead wouldn't apply anyway because they're not hateful slurs against the Chinese, but (unless you're rather naive) disgusting is very much implied. Could be a dish with brownie for desert.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 I'd rather talk about Leicester City, than what is or isn't 'PC' in today's world. Yeah agreed let's sign Sun Ji Hi
NeilyBoy Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Could be a dish with brownie for desert. I'm fairly sure Brownie & Raghead were one of the pioneering duos in silent-film slapstick.
NeilyBoy Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 I'd rather talk about Leicester City, than what is or isn't 'PC' in today's world. The Dells are 'PC', but I think they stock Macs too nowadays.
potter3 Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Brownie and raghead wouldn't apply anyway because they're not hateful slurs against the Chinese, but (unless you're rather naive) disgusting is very much implied. In what way does somebody using the term "chinky" imply that he finds it disgusting?

The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 To be fair I cant say I have. But the point im making is he didnt mean anything by it and its really not that bad. Yes I agree there are better words but is there need for such a slating by people who then go on to abuse coalville? Really? Pot Kettle Black. Don't worry about sticking up for coalville! It's a shithole! Full of poles. Ah shit; ive done it again! Oh no help! Outrage at using the term 'chink' fukin ell I feel for you lot. It must be so hard every time you open your mouth trying to ensure noone takes offense to anything you say. Christ get a grip
The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 that's a large part of the problem. in his mind there's nothing wrong with calling someone a chink. Correct, there is nothing wrong with it.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Karma's a bitch. It will be o.ce I've been refunded

Have we re-signed Yuki Abe or something? I swear. Ugh. Look, for a start, chink is an offensive racial slur for Chinese people. They have always, always found it offensive, it is no better than calling someone a wog, a paki, a kike, a nigger or anything else. Just because it has taken longer to be culturally banished (although, to be fair, I know almost nobody that says they're "going to the Chinky" any more) that doesn't mean that it says more about the phrase itself than British attitudes to East Asian people. SECONDLY, even if the phrase were just a minor bit of slang (akin to calling me a sheep shagger or Foxy a paddy) then Stu would still be being massively presumptuous using the term for any East-Asian person, given I highly he doubt he went "Oh mate, nice Torres t-shirt, oh by the way from which country do your family originate?" He has no idea if the bloke is Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese or anything else and by failing to make the distinction (in the same way as singing Yuki Abe eats ****ing dogs) you are being inherently racist. But of course, I'm just being ridiculously overly PC.

Really no point trying to point out to someone who uses terms like 'chinky' that it's offensive. To him it isnt offensive which is why he uses it so in his mind he's in the right so there isnt really anything you can type that would make him stop and think, 'oh hang on...'.

Not being disrespectful. It's nothing like calling someone a wog or paki. Not to me anyway. I'm truly amazed some people are bothered by this. None of them are Chinese mind.

What do you mean "exactly?" He isn't defending you, he's implying you're too stupid to learn. Which I don't believe you are or anyone is. Maybe I have too much faith in people and too much faith in you, I've no idea, but I'm not about to stop challenging people's attitudes to race when they're simply being outright ignorant. I appreciate by being volatile about it I'm not exactly doing my best to convince you to change your ways. But take it from me, it is an offensive term, it has always been an offensive term and it will do you no harm at all to stop using it. And no, I'm not Chinese, though I've plenty of friends who are and whom are Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese and believe me I'd really, REALLY love to see you call any of them Chinks to their faces. But then somehow I don't suppose you ever would... not that it's an offensive term or anything, eh Stu?
Poakey Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 My dad(who is 63) still says "fancy a chinky tonight" and he will often follow it with "i couldnt eat a whole one though". The racist bastard, he needs locking up.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 The thing is Finnegan, paki and wog is used maliciously. There's no denying that whatsoever. To my uneducated mind 'chinky' is different. As is calling someone a jock or paddy. Some find it offensive, others don't. As for bilo on about 'ragheads' its an old argument, one he knows nothing about and something I can't be bothered going into again.
jonlcfc1990 Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Yeah... So how good was our support on Sunday eh? Brilliant
Guest Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 It will be o.ce I've been refunded Good luck with that...
The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 March 2012 Posted 21 March 2012 Good luck with that... It's in the hands of the FSF. Even if in the future it prevents them selling these seats at the same price to unaware fans that can only be a good thing
