The League Show and the disappearing ladies!

Do many of you stay up late enough to watch the League Show on a regular weekly basis? - or tend to do so after staggering back home from the pub belatedly after a Saturday night out?! I like Manish's occasional references and subtle hints towards his Foxes' allegience plus nice to see our old hero on there most weeks with him too, or the insightful (IMO) Leroy Rosenior on others. What I want to know though is what's happened to the tasty two ladies (Jackie and Lizzie) this season? They were there for the past two seasons when alternating the task between them (mostly Lizzie) of dealing with and reading out the fans' emails (basically the part of the show in between the three league's action). Also has anybody noticed the BBC also appear to have scrapped the female commentators this season also? They never did sound quite right to me!!

It's The FOOTBALL League Show.

There was a woman in charge of sport at the BBC last year. She might be still there but someone must have had a quiet word as that female commentator was atrocious and Lizzie was pointless.

Sky have got it spot on IMO. The ladies are all passionate and more importantly knowledgeable on their subjects e.g. Alex Hammond with horse racing and the female F1 Sky team are brilliant.

On a side note, anyone see the lass jogging through Malaysia this morning?

You're probably spot on Collymore re the ladies in their other sports (plus Helen Chamberlain on Soccer AM of course, who is also excellent at her job), while the Sky Sports' News ladies also make great eye candy and are great autocue readers! ;) That lass who was commentating on occasional matches for the BBC last season sounded like a prepubescent school girl who got overly excited when commentating, she was truly shocking. No wonder the BBC axed her - presumably - as I haven't heard her dulcet tones (not!) this season at any stage!

Women should never be commentators. Unless they have a man's voice.

So glad they've got rid of that emails crap.

Hmmm, I suppose that they were a trifle pointless with the emails segments of the show as i suppose we have 6.06 on Radio 5 and these forums now to discuss all that. As you say, women don't sound right commentating on certain sports do they?! Maybe it's just what we're used to hearing (blokes commentary) but I'd say a definite "no no" re introducing more women commentators with football! I suspect that lass on the BBC commentary team last season was just a pilot one though!

Slightly off topic....Are the highlights from yesterday available anywhere?

They'll usually be on from midnight later on.

I hated last night how Claridge (and Manish) kept going on about the red card even though the VT was showing Dyer's and Marshall's goals. Yep, talk about the negative Leicester stuff, forget the positive. Culminated in the fact that Claridge still decided to bring up the 1 consecutive set of wins in the league all season stuff. That was so last month (and a few days of this month!).

Thank goodness Sven wasn't in charge, every little fault would've been highlighted.

Claridge and Manish were right about the rather humorous ""fans being teased" bit though re us and Leeds' fans not knowing whether their team was ever coming or going in it's quest to make the play offs of late!

And thank God Wellens wasn't playing then!

Am I the only one who thought the Lady commentator was a nice touch?

And I don't mean in the "aww bless, they're letting a woman have a go" way, but in the "she's better than many of the men who phone it in" way.

I seem to remember the last FLS thread moaning that there wasn't enough coverage and I guess the producers figured that with only X amount of time to get all those games in the UGC content was the bit of the programme they could do without, particularly when there's outlets like 606 to deal with fans reaction and comment

They are both on maternity leave after Manish got them both pregnant.

Almost as bad as Andy Townsend in a van when ITV had The Premiership.

Don't blame him for that - though but could he afford the maintenance payments?! Probably....!

Incidentally as 6.06 is mentioned on this thread, does anybody know how to listen back to the show online if you miss it on either day of a weekend evening?? Me not know how!

That sounds so Alan Partridge.
