Parafox Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Just wondering about the history of posters on FT.. Which schools did you go to, were they good/bad? What's your most vivid memory around school? When were you there? What was your first job after leaving school? I went to Wyvern Infants school (1961-63), Northfield Junior (1963-67) and finally Gateway grammar school (1967-72) (yes I really am THAT old). The first 2 were pretty unmemorable except for the time I fired a staple from a staple gun into a boys arm for a joke! I thought the gun was empty. And one other incident of allegedly punching a boy on the way home and having to stand in an ID parade in class the following day. I made myself cross-eyed in the hope he wouldn't recognise me, for I was guitly. And he didin't!!! Then on the last day at that school me and a few others littered the headmasters study with (I seem to remember) football cards, the ones that used to come with the packets of flat pink chewing gum. We were such rebels. Gateway was a good school. Had a lot of good times there. It was, back then, one of the first in the country to have its owm computer. It took up half a classroom and it used punch cards to program it. I think it was cobol(?) code. The memory was something like 500Mgb. I also remember being punched unexpectedly in the face in the playground cos I kept taunting a new boy who was supposed to be a push-over. He nearly knocked me out! And smoking in the Newarks underpass. Also recall trying to look up the French teachers skirt on the stairs and getting caught doing so I played in goal for the school, Blaby Boys Club and Equity Rangers (or United, I can't remember). In a flush of self aggrandisement I applied for a trial at LCFC... no reply I left school in 1976 and joined the police cadets in Leicester.

sphericalfox Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 I went to too many schools to mention or be relavant to many here, though I went to Loughborough College for 2 years, and Ashby Grammer for a year before that. Bournemouth Uni afterwards EDIT: It's a pic of Poiice Academy
Fox92 Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Went to school in my hometown, which you will not have heared of anyway regardless. Left in 2008, went to college. Three years at college studying IT, and then left last summer. Got a job now, not what I want, but good for money. Going to university in September (Manchester Met).
Leicesterpool Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Whitestone Infant School 1998-2001 Chetwynd Junior School 2001-2005 Etone School 2005-2006 Higham Lane School 2006-2010 My early school days were okay I'd say once I went to Etone it was hell, bullied to kingdom come and eventually enough was enough so I left and changed schools. I found the Etone school staff very unhelpful, put it this way they were more worried about there wage slip than a student getting bullied. Higham Lane wasn't bad didn't get bullied but it was very hard. I would say I enjoyed my time at junior school, miss the days playing football on the playground.
Webbo Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Ellis Avenue Infants (now called Abbey primary school I believe), Mellor Juniors for a year, Herrick Juniors and Soar Valley comprehensive. I left school in 1981 so you'll have to work out which years I went to the other schools for yourselves.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Meadows Community Primary in Wigston, Abington High, Guthlaxton College and then a school in Skeggy (where I now teach) to finish off my A-Levels. Think I was probably a little shit in all of 'em.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 I was at Oxley Primary School in Shepshed until I was about 7 when I moved to Swannington Primary. Fantastic memories there. A small school, possibly about 90 pupils maximum. The friends I made there have been friends for 18 years now. I then moved to Ivanhoe College in Ashby, then to Ashby Grammar. I was in Year 10 during the 2002 World Cup, and with my parents not allowing me off to watch the England games, I'd take my school bag and sweatshirt, dump it in a locker down Hood Park Leisure Centre along with my school tie. Left with what I'm wearing I could easily get served in the pubs and sit watching a game whilst supposed to be in the first lesson of the day. I actually had my first job whilst at school, working as Xmas temp staff at Argos in Coalville. Then joined the army straight after I finished school. Didn't bother with a levels at that point. Didn't think they were important, neither was a degree unless the degree was specific to what you wanted to do- ie become a doctor. Although I regret not getting my A Levels and getting a degree so I could've got a commission in the army, I still don't think the typical further education routes are all that.

Biggest thing that happened at Heatherbrook was Jeremy Beadle was a big friend of the head, so we met him quite alot. Nothing really happened at either of the other two.

AdamN Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Meadows Community Primary in Wigston, Abington High, Guthlaxton College and then a school in Skeggy (where I now teach) to finish off my A-Levels. This, minus the Skeggy bit!
The Year Of The Fox Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 one of my aunts used to live near the ox lea pub , is that close ? Yes, quite. Probably 500 yards away from the school. I was in that pub on thevday of the royal wedding last year. Don't ask why!

sphericalfox Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 How long ago were you at Ashby Grammar? Or to be more specific, which year was you there and at which age? I was long gone before you. Also your last sentence suggests King Edward not Grammar education
Zingari Posted 15 April 2012 Posted 15 April 2012 Incidentally Zin, I found a pic of The Carousel on that site you posted the link for the Van Damme Yes I saw that too , It looked bigger than I remembered
