Babylon Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 Clearly not good enough. Get your pitchforks lads, lets go after him! Ha ha I was waiting for someone to say it, thankfully it was in jest.
sphericalfox Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 Seeing as we've covered just about every other aspect of where we may be going wrong, I thought I'd look at this one. We never properly replaced Hamann or Powell as First Team Coach. Our coaching team comprises The Gaffer, Shakespeare (assistant) and Steve Walsh (assistant, but basically head scout), Stowell (GK coach, primarily). Many of our performances this season have lacked strategy and discipline. Is it a coincidence that we seem to be lacking dedicated first team coaches? Perhaps certain aspects of our game are not getting the necessary focus in training and/or certain players are not getting the specialised coaching relevant to their roles in the side? Just a thought. Discuss away! Shame this discussion didn't kick off from when I mentioned this topic......not bitter at all!
Thracian Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 We've shown so many basic shortcomings on the pitch for years so I don't think our latest coaches are necessarily any worse than others who went before them over the last decade or so, I've genuinely wondered how some have earned their badges after witnessing the sort of performance we've produced on the pitch. Technically, tactically and psychologically we've rarely been better than ordinary in that time and too often we've been genuinely diabolical And who have we developed at senior level to make a noticeable improvement and genuine impact at the club from a primising start on arrrival? No-one. I have listed many serious flaws in our coaching as reflected on the pitch over this season alone and sometimes we've been tactically naive or short of thoughtful pre-match planning. Psychologically too we let ourselves down constantly - and particularly when there's a little more pressure or expectation. I don't pretend for one moment that any of our coaches have had the greatest team or individuals to work with over the time i've mentioned or even now after we've spent so much money..our choice of staff being another questionable element. But could we and should we have got more from what we had? No question. I truly believe that with proper detailed preparation our current squad should have made the play-offs and been seriously challenging for a top two place. We've made far too many voluntary mistakes.
ballisimo Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 I feel we lost it when we lost diddy hamman personally

Hit the nail on the head Thrac we are unlikely to see any changes for that matter to lackadaisical in my eyes, yes we have don't insght into the training regime but when we the same glaring mistakes on the pitch during match time you wonder what the f**k they do.

And you also wonder, why the feck do such highly paid players need to be told to control the ball, don't give away stupid pennos, don't do stupid tackles, don't miss 70 sitters against Peterboro etc etc

Matt Posted 16 April 2012 Posted 16 April 2012 I've said for a while it went tits up when Powell left and it's never been the same.
Thracian Posted 17 April 2012 Posted 17 April 2012 I'm fairly sure a manager and two assistant managers is sufficient, Stowell is there to kick a few balls around and put the cones out. It should be sufficient but there's no evidence they're adequate. And if that really is Stowell's role then he's part of the problem. Coaching-wise we're short of so much. Perhaps the coaches are brilliant but the players aren't listening but, for sure, the shortcomings are evident on the pitch. And I'm not referring to individual errors - they will always be made and always cost something over a season. I'm talking about missing fundamentals. If you want me to list them I will but they've been mentioned individually on many occasions.
Daggers Posted 17 April 2012 Posted 17 April 2012 I think we lack a video research team. Very important in high level sports but overlooked by most.We could probably do with a mental strength coach too. And a bloody better Optimistic Coach. Foxyhatesram's stolen bus is rubbish.
Babylon Posted 17 April 2012 Posted 17 April 2012 It should be sufficient but there's no evidence they're adequate. I agree, the point was more to do with people saying we miss Hamman etc. When in reality he would have had very little input on things like that.
