Lacking in coaching department?

Seeing as we've covered just about every other aspect of where we may be going wrong, I thought I'd look at this one.

We never properly replaced Hamann or Powell as First Team Coach. Our coaching team comprises The Gaffer, Shakespeare (assistant) and Steve Walsh (assistant, but basically head scout), Stowell (GK coach, primarily).

Many of our performances this season have lacked strategy and discipline. Is it a coincidence that we seem to be lacking dedicated first team coaches? Perhaps certain aspects of our game are not getting the necessary focus in training and/or certain players are not getting the specialised coaching relevant to their roles in the side?

Just a thought. Discuss away!

I think it's the catering staff at the Walkers to blame myself, pies are awfull and I dunno if they are still serving that disgusting "Carlsberg" down there. Don't even get me started on the hot dogs. Satisfied Consumers = Happy fans = louder fans = players playing better = promotion. It's really quite simple when you think about it.

We have problems in this regard for quite some time, and seems quite lackadaisical approach why don't we have attacking coaches, defensive coaches, coaches that can implement how to deal with set pieces and utilize them effectively we have the money to do so, but nothing seems to change.

I'd agree with this..... I really think Sven would still be here if he'd have replaced Hamman when he left. It did seem noticeable afterwards that our performances lacked the same level of strategy.

But NP has his own team that he thinks are complete as a trio.

I think the roles of Hamman and Powell are overplayed a bit. In the positions they are in it's most likely they just do as told and work the players as instructed. In CP's case he brought more to it as he was great to have around by all accounts, but i'm not sure they were passing on different strategy than the higher management were.

I'm so good at Champ manager 01/02 that I reckon I could have the job. Seriously, I won the Champion's League, Premier League and FA Cup treble about five years in a row with Burton Albion! I am a God on that game. I am like somekind of futuristic Cyber Punk 'n' that. Oh yeah, you guessed right, I'm poular with the ladies. Ladies love a computer geek! ANyway, I could do it, all the players need is to be told to tackle hard, pass short, have an attacking mentality and play the offsiade trap! We'd storm the league!

On a serious note yes I would agree we could do with a new coach. Really don't think we ever filled the gap left by Powell.

The last time we had NP and that very tight defence, we had Taggert as our defensive coach.

Coinkydent?

Get Taggs back! He still lives in Quorn.

I'm sure this will be addressed in the summer to be honest, although I don't think anyone could pass fair judgment as none of you see what goes on there.

I think we lack a video research team. Very important in high level sports but overlooked by most.

We could probably do with a mental strength coach too.

I can't speak for NP but this was definitely in place under Sven. In fact didn't Martin Allen introduce the video suite?

Yeah but they don't use it properly.

We need a team that analyses every championship player from every opponent each week and then gets this info to the coaching staff abd individual players. then they need to study the tendancies and train accordingly.

still that might tak too long for them to sit around and count their salary after finishing the round of golf and before starting the evening's poker game.

I remember some asking fazackerley in an interview why we didn't put a striker on the half way line when defending corners. I thought that was a great question and was really pleased with the response.... Which was that they had watched every championship game from the season befor and had analysed what difference it made to the amount of players the opposition left back .... And the stats shown that it made little difference - they'd always leave two back whether it was to mark one player or none.

So it was used, I'm not sure how much now - but clearly was fairly extensively then.

I do agree about the mental strength - remember when glen huddle was vilified for thinking this was a good idea?? How times change!!!

We have a Sports Psychologist called Ken Way and a Head of Technical Scouting called Rob Mackenzie. Along with a large group of others in the Sports Science department.

Pearson has always seemed to embrace that side of the game, in fact the lack of it after he left was massively moaned about.

I think we should cheekily try and persuade Oliver Kahn to stick around as our new goalkeeper coach, seeing as he was supposedly training with the lads today! :P

^^^^ I saw that on Logan's Twitter, wonder what it was all about?

Would probably still rather have him as back-up over Logan and Weale mind...
