flowwolf Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Back to the generosity of the owners - you can buy blank DVD's for 23p each on Amazon, so their gesture of 20,000 free DVD's cost them £4,600 for the blanks and maybe the same again to put the content on, so a £10,000 gesture, or 2.5 days wages for Nige or about 1.5 days for most of the first team. They didn't have to do it but in the scheme of things it's not really worth the word 'wonderful' being attached to them Oh stop with the witticism, you're killing me I don't have the guts but I wish someone would take up that particular challenge. lol lol
Nationwider Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 A better gift would have been something more outlandish and whimsical than a free DVD or a free scarf, or a funfair in mid-December. If I win the EuroMillions and buy them out, I pledge to offer a free hat, of any style, colour and price, to anyone who renews their ST before 31 May.
Guest parky0607 Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I'm not digging the owners to be fair... I didnt like the way they came in and basically wrote Sven a blank cheque ... IMO they were naiive to believe that they could effectively buy the league with a whole new set of players and showing a relatively successful footballing team the exit door. This whole situation is worse than being with a loan shark... the club is forced to loan money from another business, charging 8% interest, and not only that but they are also effectively dictating how much money we are loaning from them and wasting it by spending stupid amounts of money on wages and players which quite frankly arent suitable. It is quite obvious that we are being used as a marketing tool for their duty free stores. I would like to revel in the fact we are being heavily invested in, and would genuinely like to believe all the propoganda they are distributing. For me though, the occasional 'treats' like the DVDs etc are more to keep the fans sweet, if they genuinely cared for fans, they would have kept season ticket prices the same. This thread is evidence that they are succeeding in what they are doing, but unfortunately, I dont own a pair of King Power tinted glasses. I appreciate that they say they are trying to move this club forward, however I am concerned that this will all go down the shitter like pompey.

I think we have every right to be suspicious of the owners motives , It certainly is not their long term affiliation to our club , I suspect that a couple of years ago they could not have found Leicester with a map, compass and sat nav. So what exactly are they up to ? they have never given out a statement of purpose and it is still unclear who exactly owns the club or why. I would be a lot more comfortable if they engaged in a bit more transparency and stopped treating the fans like school children with little presents like the DVD. Can you imagine if they had said to the fans " right no ticket price rise until we reach the Prem because we respect you the fans and know you feel let down this season" It would be a great gesture and show they mean to stay long time and get us where we belong.
Nationwider Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I can only agree 100% with parky0607 and flowwolf. There's been two years of good intentions but not the merest whiff of English domestic footballing savvy. Everyone keeps referring to them being in it for 'the long-term', but this is only really a long-term that includes Premiership football. They will have an exit strategy as this isn't blind benevolence they are indulging in. My gut feeling (and its no more than that) is that three years outside the Prem is more than enough and if we don't deliver in 12/13, they will take the loss and leave then, or soon after. If that happens, it will be ugly.
Rand94 Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Plus its not the owners fault we are inconsistent, they've improved facilities, invested in players and upped our reputation.
cecchini Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Hmmm, I'm actually quite impressed with our owners. To my knowledge (living in Lux leaves me slightly out of the loop) they have always delivered on their promises. Spent money on players, the facilities (big screens etc). Giving out a free DVD? of course it has a certain amount of marketing value, but lets be real - the return will be less than the investment, they didn't have to do it but they did. In the end buying a football team is a bit of a risk, most are money pits, unless you have a long history of success or are based somewhere fashionable it will always be difficult to attract true talent without paying huge sums. (remember Middlesborough when they had Ravanelli, and a load of Brazilians?) Even then it don't work. Like i've said before, we missed the boat when the big money was first being splashed. We are from an unfashionable part of the country - even when we were doing well in the MON days were were not a "fashionable side" So its about us - its our club "Leicester 'til i die" With King Power we have a future, but they need "bums on seats" fanatical support. We will be there next season, lets be honest, going up this season would have been a disaster - give NP the time to build a team that can dominate the championship and then build a solid foundation for the prem. Up the City!

Up the City! What is more likely to give them that freezing ticket prices or increasing them and giving out a DVD? I suspect also that the extra revenue they will get from these increases are minimal in comparison to what the club has spent via their loans does it even match the 8% interest they are getting from their loans, for many many fans the increases would be a substantial increase out of their overall available budget.
davieG Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Plus its not the owners fault we are inconsistent, they've improved facilities, invested in players and upped our reputation. Well they contributed to it by their cavalier attitude to employing managers, most likely 3 in 2 years which impacts massively on how the players perform and become a cohesive, consistent team something we're still miles away from.
Lobsterboyuk Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 They came to English football with no pedigree and made mistakes - at great financial risk to themselves. Have they cut and run like Gaydamek at Pompey - no Are they modifying their approach as they learn - yes. Did Top look me in the eye during the end of season lap as he gave thumbs up and we're not worthy gesture with his arms. Is football too expensive - yes, is that directly the Thai's fault - no Really nobody on this forum has the knowledge to really predict the future of the Thai ownership. I choose to let them have a good go at achieving success for my beloved club without jumping on their backs until I've got good reason to, which beyond conspiracy theory I'm not seeing anything really bad yet

And the club Have they cut and run like Gaydamek at Pompey - no Yet would be a better answer - they have been here 2 years Are they modifying their approach as they learn - yes. How do you work that out? Did Top look me in the eye during the end of season lap as he gave thumbs up and we're not worthy gesture with his arms. No Is football too expensive - yes, is that directly the Thai's fault - no It's 8% more expensive than last year Really nobody on this forum has the knowledge to really predict the future of the Thai ownership. But you wanna believe in them and that is fine, just don't expect everybody to I choose to let them have a good go at achieving success for my beloved club without jumping on their backs until I've got good reason to, which beyond conspiracy theory I'm not seeing anything really bad yet If ramping up debt, employing an imbecile to manage the club and firing him after 9 games when we were bottom of the table, changing the next manager on a whim 13 games after giving him £15m to spend on new players, leaving us without a manager for a month and choosing to pay over the odds to try and recreate what they already destroyed once with Nige isn't enough, then I guess you're ok
Lobsterboyuk Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I take it you don't share my optimism then seenitall? Fair enough...
MattyFromLE Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I take it you don't share my optimism then seenitall? Fair enough... 'Optimism' and seenitall looks weird in the same sentence.

dolorous ed Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Why do people more often than not stick a floating comma into Thais? It's Thais, not Thai's. Having lived in Thailand for the past 12 years, I can confirm that less than 3% of Thais have ever heard of Leicester. I'm not certain what the owners are up to, but if they are after prestige, being in the premiership will never be enough. This is a plastic footy supporting nation. They are fanatical about the top 4, but that's as far as it goes. 87% of Thais think Barcelona is in England. (figures based on my own, somewhat limited research)
Raw Dykes Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Why do people more often than not stick a floating comma into Thais? It's Thais, not Thai's. It's called an apostrophe, and people misuse it all over the place, especially with writing a plural. If something is plural, it just needs an s on the end, with no apostrophe, e.g. Thais. An apostrophe should be used as a replacement for a missing letter, e.g. would not - wouldn't, does not - doesn't, or when someone owns something, e.g. Marshall's wonder strike, Tunchev's dodgy knees. If there was just one Thai owner, it would be the Thai's club, but as there's more than one (the Thais), then it is the Thais' club.
Night Air Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I know some people may feel they have made mistakes, but I feel are owners are the best in the division. They could have walked away but they are staying loyal for the long term project. The free dvd yesterday was an extra bonus and thanks, and I know the results might not have gone our way but we cannot underestimate their effort. Does the 7 refer to your age?
seenitall Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I think calling them 'The Thais' or even 'The Thai's' is a bit of an insult anyway - is it just because their surname is a bit tricky?
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I believe we have the best owners for many a year. They have put more money in the pot, than many Premiership teams get. Let us not forget, though, that they are businessmen.
Raj Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 The owners i have no issues with. They have done a very good decent job. The choice in managers and hereby the choice in players and what they "earn" is the issue
Raj Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Erm the Owners and their"advisors" Point taken though...
cc_star Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I believe we have the best owners for many a year. They have put more money in the pot, than many Premiership teams get. Let us not forget, though, that they are businessmen. What are you talking about? They haven't put any money in... the club essentially owes them all the money (+ interest) spunked up the wall since their arrival, if not before as they must have had a hand in the Abe deal & the appointment of a 'name' manager so they can sell shirt in their duty free shops The effect is, they've already spent next years revenues, the year after, the year after the year after and so on & on as they backed a manager who previously has a record for buying success, but forgot he'd done less than nothing for a decade... Any clown could have done all this. It's the absolute height of recklessness and irresponsibility. Thankfully the appointment of NP showed they'd quickly learned their unsustainable lesson, we'll see if they remember that lesson or chose to start the whole cycle yet again in the coming weeks
dolorous ed Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 It's called an apostrophe, and people misuse it all over the place, especially with writing a plural. . thanks...i prefer to call it a 'floating comma'... thought i was the only person that noticed gives me hives not as bad as the people that spell 'lose' as 'loose' though.. why does this happen? is it because everybody is stupid???
