21st Century Fox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 So now we can sit back and wait for the papers to absolutely massacre him during the Euros with a total disregard for the fact that he'll have had pretty much less than a months preparation.
welck12 Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Anyone that can lead Switzerland to 3rd in the world rankings (as farcical as they are) deserves a chance at least
Corky Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Watching Roy and David Bernstein, it's a major surprise Jonathan Ross wasn't invited.
Libertine Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Happy with this actually. Still don't see it going well though.

21st Century Fox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Just watched the press conference. Journalists really do come across as vermin. How on earth was the question about Apartheid relevant!!??
Orkneyfox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 This from the Newsthump website: The Football Association says it has been given permission to speak to West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson about turning an average England side into a team capable of doing what the media expects. The decision has sparked fury amongst football fans who have convinced themselves that England’s national team are world-beaters despite them being a bit shit. “Apart from 2 Swedish football championships, 8 Swedish Cups,2 UEFA Cup finals, a Danish Superliga, a Danish Super cup, taking Finland to their highest ever FIFA ranking, guiding Switzerland to 3rd in the FIFA rankings and to their first European Championship in 36 years, what has Hodgson ever done?” enquired one fan of being hugely unrealistic. “Hodgson may be English, but he can’t even pronounce his own name properly.” Hodgson for England With the FA insisting that Hodgson is the only manager that they’ve approached, England fans have been left perplexed that Harry Redknapp has been overlooked. “Surely Harry is the right man to take England forward,” insisted one bemused fan. “You only have to look at the clubs he’s managed and what he’s achieved.” “Okay, his only trophy is an FA Cup that he won with Portsmouth, but there’s more to his achievements than that.” “It’s all about laying the foundations for the future.” “I mean ,you only have to look at where Portsmouth are now.”
RowlattsFox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Like any manager, he deserves the opportunity before anyone says he is shit. Can't see it making too much difference however. I can't see Roy being too outrageous with his selections, not that I think he should and it seems certain part of the media are willing him to fail already. The England job really is a hiding to nothing at the moment. Personally would have liked a shorter contract but then of course Roy probably wouldn't have taken it.
BlueSi13 Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Harry plays great football. But defensively I think Hodgson is a bit better. Bar Liverpool he's done a good job wherever he's been, in the circumstances. To be fair, he had Liverpool round about where "king kenny" has them now. And he did all that without pissing over £100,000,000 up the wall. Whats even funnier is that he has a higher points per game average with West Bromwich Albion than Kenny Dalglish has with Liverpool
FoxyPV Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 They are just looking any excuse to sink him because he's not 'Arry - mate of the media, saviour of England and all round nice fucking guy.
Orkneyfox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 Harry "so nice I'll **** off and manage your bitterest rivals" Redknapp.
Guest shearfox Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 They are just looking any excuse to sink him because he's not 'Arry - mate of the media, saviour of England and all round nice fucking guy. I think what HR has achieved recently with Portsmouth and Tottenham is fantastic, but why everyone is going on like he is some god I don't know. Hodgson is as good if not better
leicesterseddon Posted 1 May 2012 Posted 1 May 2012 So, perfect for England then? Can't see this working out, he had big enough troubles with the egos at Liverpool, and with Lampard and Terry in particular knocking around with England he won't be able to get the dressing room under control. Don't really see this as a problem. He's the manager now...if he has trouble with them, he can just leave them out the team. Roy couldn't kick people like Gerrard out of the team at Liverpool because the fans there wouldn't have worn it. However, if he dropped the big-name players in the England squad, I think the majority of fans would agree that he'd be within his rights to do so on a performance basis alone. I really don't think people like Terry and Lampard (and even Rooney) should hold much currency in the England set-up anyway...it's not as if their performances for the national team have made them undroppable, is it?
