The Title Decider

Would you be of that opinion if we had won the league this season?

I know you'll probably say I wouldn't, but the amount of money we've been throwing around is absurd, as is that in football in general.

So if they don't win it you can't buy a title.

But if they do win it you can buy a title?

Money is the reason for success and money also doesn't guarantee success. Is that what is being said?

Nope. I'm saying that I'd rather see United win as they have built up a solid squad of players over a few years, introducing young players every now and then. Whereas City have just bought 'the best'.

He's a good goalscorer, a quality striker, but to hear Neville call him 'great' because he 'proves himself on the big occassions' is complete nonsense.

Except, of course, it's not. See below for a post I made last year. This year you can add a brace in the Manchester derby in January to the list, as well as a number of goals at the "business end" of the season, 3 goals against Chelsea, 2 goals against Spurs and a hat-trick against Arsenal.

In fact, so routine is Rooney's brilliance in big games (at least for Manchester United) that days like today are comment worthy. He was hopeless today, but the guy is a class act, not only against the small teams but also on the big occasion.

2010/11

  • Scores in Champions League final
  • Scored in Semi-final against Schalke
  • Set up other goal in 1st leg of that semi with a magnificent reverse pass
  • Scored only goal of match away at Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Champions League
  • Scores remarkable overhead kick with 10 minutes to go of biggest Manchester Derby in years
  • Scores hat-trick away at West Ham with United looking down and out at 0-2, and possibly looking like surrendering the title to Chelsea

2009/10

  • Scores last minute winner in Carling Cup Semi-Final against Manchester City
  • Scores winner in Carling Cup final
  • Scores in Munich against Bayern Munich. Later goes off injured and United's season fell apart thereafter
  • Scores 4 goals over 2 games against AC Milan (including 2 at the San Siro) in 1st knockout round of Champions League
  • Scores home and away against Arsenal

2008/9

  • Scores winner in Club World Cup Final
  • Scores winner in Manchester derby at City of Manchester

2007/8

  • Scores in Champions League quarter final in Rome.

2006/7

  • Scores crucial (arguably title-winning) goal to put United 3-2 up at Everton
  • Scores home and away against Roma in Champions League quarter final
  • Scores twice in FA Cup Semi-Final
  • Scores twice against AC Milan in Champions League semi final

2005/6

  • Scores twice in League Cup Final

2004/5

  • Scores hat-trick on Manchester United debut
  • Scores winner at Anfield

Man City are worthy winners. No matter how they've got to this stage, it would be good to see a new name on the Premier League trophy.

He's bottled it massively in a number of big games. Namely the world cup, not to mention vital qualifying games, tonight, and in the reverse fixture.

But people try to fob off internationals as not important, or not a good indication of a players failure to handle pressure. Of Course nothing could be further from the truth.

He'll never be a great.

Liam Gallagher turned up to Mancini's press conference before the man himself and said "What else do you want to know apart from top of the league? Fergie's been on the whisky".

With Liam Gallagher and Maradona in town, it must be a bonanza for all Manchester's coke dealers.. :)

I'm at work till 9pm then rushing straight to the pub to the pub to watch the 2nd half, so 0-0 at half-time followed by City winning it would be perfect for me :)

Ended up bunking off work early so saw the whole thing - quite beautiful how easily City got three points without even playing any really decent football :D

I'm not fobbing off internationals. Rooney's often been poor in an England shirt, but then again you'd say the same for Messi in an Argentina one.

Anyway, since Rooney's been in the England

team, our record in qualifiers has been pretty brilliant, but he hasn't produced in 2 of the 3 major tournaments he's played in, both of which he was injured in the run up to.

I can't believe you'd ignore the swathes of evidence which suggest he's not a " big game bottler" for the sake of what? England v Germany in 2010 and England v Portugal in 2006?

Messi was poor against Chelsea very poor recently, hardly set the world a light with Argentina and same goes for Ronaldo at Portugal...

Messi has been poor for Argentina? Where on earth do people get this nonsense fron? You clearly havnt watched much of him then.

Centrepiece of the Olympic winning team in 08, the Copa team in 07 that lost in the final to Brazil and was one of the ten nominated for the Golden Ball in the 10 WC.

I'd love to see you say something like that in Argentina and see the reaction you get.

Ferguson is such as hyprocrite. He can badger the officials all game but as soon as another manager does it, it isn't allowed. So annoying.

Obviously I believe him to be the best at the mo, I wouldn't put Rooney near him. But still those achievements don't really stick out as brilliiant...
