Sol Campbell: Euro 2012 fans will go home in coffins

Not saying Itallian football is perfect but I can tell you having been to Turin and a game in Rome it is not anything close to that, they should of got it. Turkey has improved from the Leeds United days as well.

It's getting there but attendances are still pretty poor in Italy and there are still some problems with politically motivated violence, I wouldn't want to go to a Livorno-Lazio game any time soon for example, but I agree it's nowhere near as bad as the scenes we saw in the Panorama programme tonight.

Also, Turkey have a couple of really good quality grounds these days. The Ataturk Olympic Stadium has already hosted a Champions League Final and Galatasaray's new stadium is a world away from the Ali Sami Yen which was a shithole. There are still problems there, wouldn't fancy my chances as a Greek or English fan there much, but still better than Ukraine and Poland.

None of the options were perfect, but they've just about managed to go for the worst option of the lot.

Someone on Twitter, can't remember who, said something along the same lines of what I was thinking. The BBC could put together footage of the London riots, EDL nutters and reports of racism in our football stadiums and make it look like England is a dangerous place to even visit. I'd guess it's not as bad in Ukraine/Poland as they've tried to portray.

Ah the voice of reason, It's not like the London riots were a one off, Also glad I'm not the only one who hasn't missed the beatings of asain students by the EDL down at the Walkers on a weekly basis.

Than god you are here.

No worries.

In all seriousness, I could, if I had the time and money and was the BBC, find different instances of racial motivated murders and attacks across the UK, as well as arrests at football grounds, and general crime. I'm not saying our country is as bad as Eastern Europe, just that if you want to you can find bad anywhere, doesn't necessarily represent the whole area. There's racism everywhere, there's crime everywhere. Yes chances are it's worse there due to shit police, but I doubt every non Ukrainian or Pole will be murdered.

I know a few people who've been on holidays/stags to Poland and they are all still alive, for instance. Was just pointing out that people who are going will probably not "all come back in coffins". Although I will say after watching this I'm pretty pleased I didn't decide to go and will be saving up for France in 2016. Ahh, lovely, nice France.

UEFA/FIFA just have a really bad tendency to give major football ing tournaments to the worst possible candidates.

World Cup 2018 - England (One of, if not the biggest footballing nation on the planet) Where violence is rarely a problem bar the hooligan firms, that have died down in recent years or Russia, a country renowned for violence on the terraces, the threat of terrorism and racially aggravated attacks.

Precisely the type of arrogance which explains why our bid met the fate that it did. Those attitudes do not go down well overseas, especially in ex-colonies.

With the money that Russians (Abramovich in particular) have poured into our game, maybe we shouldn't act so superior towards them.

Scare mongering like usual, it seems that every major tournement is the worst for safety nowadays. Anyway sol campbells a twat

I agree with this to an extent, of course the BBC are going to show it in its worst possible light, otherwise it would be a pretty poor programme, but you cannot deny the sight of a whole stand doing nazi salutes, and monkey noises. Forewarned is forearmed, I am going to Gdansk to watch a Spain Croatia, and maybe get tickets for Irelad Spain off a tout.

I missed the part of the programme about Poland, but I will be extra careful after watching that, I have been to Poland before and had no problems and Gdansk, with Poznan is probably one of the safest host cities, and it will be full of Irish and Spanish while the Polish fans are in Warsaw and Krakow when we are there, but football can bring the worst out of people.

Hopefully there will be a crack down on this in the Euros and any incidents like the ones on the programme will be dealt with harshly.

Whilst having the Euros there may not be the best idea, hopefully the exposure and programmes like this one will force the Ukrainian and Polish authorities to sort it out.

Been Poland a couple of times. Police are fairly heavy handed. Normally some 6ft5 bald headed policeman riding round in the town centre of Krakow - fairly intimidating lol

Although they are behind the times, stuff like this isn't a regular occurance. I should know considering I'm partly Polish myself. Usual scare-mongering tactics by the BBC. Evidently there is trouble and will continue to be trouble, but nothing on that scale will take place during the Euro's. Generally, from my experiences, a friendly bunch of people. Stayed round the corner from Wisla Krakow's stadium and on match day it was fine.

I highly doubt you'll be attacked if you're Asian in Poland either. Would be amazed in fact. Seems to me that they've portrayed all Poles as a bunch of racist thugs and I can't really see what purpose the documentary served. Fair enough warning travelling fans, but it literally came across as 'If you're black or Asian, you're going to get kicked in.'
