Mercedes C Class Estate 250 Bluefficiency Sport

Longwinded name.

Anyone got a C Class and would you recommend it?

I've heard got things about the 220 model, but fancy the extra grunt the 250 offers at just over 200 BHP.

Pretty good on economy and emissions (will be a company car)

Anyone got any input?

So far I fancy this over an A4 Avant, Mondeo estate and the Mazda and Volvo equivalents.

I'm not allowed a BMW, which I might otherwise go for since both the 3 and 5 series appeal.

Chap over the road has the 220 and likes it. Also said he would have preferred the 3 series, but he works for McClaren and they have a very good car scheme with Mercedes. Looks tasty in Black. Funny I have the BMWs on my car list but not the Mercs.

Take it you mean the dizzel? Be sure to get a manual, otherwise the economy and emissions will be fvcked up. *

These are nice motors. The build quality still isn't quite there - Merc are still getting over their skinflint era - but as a company car you don't need to worry about this really.

The A4s are lovely, especially if you can get S-Line spec and, even better, Bose upgrade. The Volvo S60 / V60s are beautiful, the Mazda and Ford will bore you sooner than the others.

* Just realised all the BE Diesels are manual anyway. Figures, really.

Yeah it will be a diesel. I was going to go auto as I'm lazy and have heard bad things about the manual gearbox? That said I've always had manual before and I can spend the saving on pointless gadgets. Bit shocked sat nav is not standard. It's a merc?

Well they always used to say never buy a manual Merc, but that's was more to do with residual value, which is not an issue for you.

Merc and others have a habit of leaving out things that everybody wants so that they'll pay an extra £1,000 odd for them. Metallic's probably not even standard but the leasing company often pays for that because it benefits their remarketing value at the end of the term.

Have you considered the BMW 3 Series?

Good set of engines, nice drivers' car and fairly well equipped.

Hmmm if its a company car I would reccomend getting yourself down a few dealerships and booking a test drive. Estates vary so much in handling and pick up also in fuel consumption......... I would imagine safety is now a big consideration too........ Go drive a few, I've ended up with company cars before which I have really disliked things about. 3 years is a long time to do hating!

Definitely go for the 250 over the 220 - you really wlll notice the difference.

And, personally, I'd go for a manual, but then I hate automatics with a passion - I like to be able to drive, not just sit there like a passenger. Of course, if you want the perfect excuse for not getting into work when it's snowy or icy, then go for the auto - all the Mercs with auto are f'ing shit in bad weather.

My son has one, it's the coupe with diesel engine.

It has no handbrake, it has a foot controlled parking brake. Hill starts are done by depressing the usual footbrake until it holds, and is released when you hit the accelerator.

I'd say having the estate is a good option as they are a smallish car with limited room in the back

I've testdriven the C Class 250 and love it. Was just speccing it out and they reveal they are completely changing the whole range.

They've tacked AMG in to the name of the model I'm going to have, I do hope this doesn't affect the insurance group
