THEFATBASTARD Posted 8 June 2012 Posted 8 June 2012 How did the universe begin ?...thats fookin easy..its my fault, I had eighteen pints and a curry, got guts ache and farted, AND followed through..there was sudden calm..then birds started singing...thus the universe was born.. not alot of people know that.. nowt to do the hadron collider, thats bollocks.
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 8 June 2012 Author Posted 8 June 2012 Knew it would be something logical Thanks TFB
Father Ted Posted 8 June 2012 Posted 8 June 2012 In simple terms, they believe that all of the matter and energy that is in the Universe today was compressed into a single point and from there it expanded outwards and is still expanding outwards but it's also believed that if it gets to a point where actual density of the universe is greater than the critical density, then everything will begin to get sucked back in again and we could have a 'Big Crunch' - which suggests that this could all just be a never ending cycle??

Ain't that what i said..? curries have that effect on my guts..
Kitchandro Posted 8 June 2012 Posted 8 June 2012 Possibly remnants of another Universe that had contracted into an point. Possibly an offshoot from a much bigger Universe that we cannot sense. Possibly the ejaculate of *insert divine entity here*. Theories about this are a dime to the dozen and it's likely every single one of them is wrong. And, in all honesty...isn't the question itself irrelevant? In order to consider how the Universe came into being, we would have to consider what was there BEFORE it. Which is incomprehensible in itself given the idea of time (a human construct) only goes as far back as the Big Bang itself. So even the idea of "before" the Big Bang is absurd. There was no "before" - not that would be understandable to us, anyway. I mean, we can trace the origin of the Universe back to roughly 10^-41 seconds after the Big Bang (using particle accelerators to mimic the effect), and with the advance of technology we may be able to get even closer...but we'll never get beyond it. But even that is just theory. Everything that people weren't around to see can only be explained with guesses based on a few things. In fact absolutely nothing can be proved beyond all doubt (even what I'm saying now), but that's a different subject. You can think of literally any explanation for the creation of the universe and it's just as plausible as anything else. As you and others have said, the answers to some of this questions might be so incomprehensible to us, but scientist etc don't want to accept that so they try to make sense of things, for, really, no reason at all.
Guest Posted 8 June 2012 Posted 8 June 2012 Don't bring the Maradona into it. Are you suggesting it was made by the hand of God?
Saxondale Posted 8 June 2012 Posted 8 June 2012 My theory is that the size, shape and time-span of the universe is beyond human comprehension, dictated by our understanding of dimensions and finite time. The universe may well be infinite in size and time (ie. it never begun and it will never end), something that we, on our little planet, will never be able to get our heads round.
Vacamion Posted 8 June 2012 Posted 8 June 2012 I thoroughly recommend John Gribbin's books on this. He explains, even so non-scientists like me can understand, stuff like quantum fluctuations in the vacuum, the Planck time, the inadequacies of our scientific models and latest theories. More useful, relevant and testable than "In the beginning, etc"
Rincewind Posted 8 June 2012 Posted 8 June 2012 Universe’s 1st Objects After Big Bang Possibly Seen by NASA Telescope 2000 plus years ago 'In the beginning' was the best answer that could be given. Today despite advances in human knowledge some are still giving that answer.
THEFATBASTARD Posted 8 June 2012 Posted 8 June 2012 its almost as big as the mystery of how gary megson keeps getting jobs in football...
