foxes2011 Posted 22 June 2012 Posted 22 June 2012 Milner and Young are asked to do a defensive job so id keep with most of it. Id like to see Welbeck replaced by Carrol because i didnt think he had a good game against Ukraine..... any thoughts ??
ousefox Posted 22 June 2012 Posted 22 June 2012 Has to be the same team, Young doesn't seem to be doing much, but it's working so keep it like it is.
RonnieTodger Posted 22 June 2012 Posted 22 June 2012 I'd go with the same team as the OP but with Welbeck in for Carroll. I never noticed just how good he is at holding the ball up. Whilst Walcott does make an impact, Johnson needs a lot more protection at the back (Milner), because he's such a liability.
Captain... Posted 22 June 2012 Posted 22 June 2012 Micah Richards in at Right back and Adam Johnson on the left wing, otherwise same team. I expect Hodgson to pick the same team, I wouldn't but then I have not been training them for the last few weeks, but I do think we look exposed on the right, Jones or Jagielka could fill in it Right Back and either release Milner from these shackles we always put on him at international level, or play with a truly attacking right winger. Young has also looked poor in the last 2 games. Would love to have Barry available for this game as I think we will need a bit more bite in the middle, if we had everyone there and fit we would have so many options, as it is we look quite limited at the moment, it is great to give the likes of Kelly Henderson and AOC some experience, but when I look at that squad I see 5 or 6 players that I just don't want anywhere near the team for this game. Same team, same amount of luck, and pray for no injuries or suspensions in midfield.
Guest ttfn Posted 22 June 2012 Posted 22 June 2012 Same team, same formation. Milner does a job. It's not exciting but it makes up for an unavoidable (given the squad selected) deficiency at right back. Real shame Kyle Walker couldn't make it and that Richards isn't deemed good enough. One thing I would say though. If Milner plays right midfield, Johnson has got to get forward more. If Milner is going to be cautious, I don't see the harm in letting Johnson off the lead a bit and letting him do what he does best. Because there probably aren't many better attacking full backs at the tournament. Just a shame his defending isn't the best. edit: For what it's worth, I can see Roy starting Carroll over Welbeck for this one. New centre-back pairing for the Italians, and of course they are Mediterranean fancy-Dan types who don't like it up 'em
MooseBreath Posted 22 June 2012 Posted 22 June 2012 Walcott in for Milner. Otherwise same team. Rooney lucky not to be dropped.
Jaspa Posted 22 June 2012 Posted 22 June 2012 Hart - Johnson - Terry -- Lescott - Cole - Gerrard -- Parker - Milner - Rooney - Young - Carroll If I were really in charge, I would weigh up playing OX-C in place of Young Would play a defensive 4-3-3/ 4-2-3-1 Attack
Father Ted Posted 22 June 2012 Posted 22 June 2012 England have to exploit the 3-5-2 system Italy play and attack from the wings with pace and so one of Ox or Walcott must start. Would even be tempted to sit Milner next to Parker and give Gerrard a more advanced role with Rooney up top.
Aus Fox Posted 23 June 2012 Posted 23 June 2012 I think the OP has it spot on. The biggest question for me is if we go to penalties do we have 5 players that would be comfortable and confident to take a penalty I can only think of 3 Stevie G, Rooney and Cole.
whoareyaaa Posted 23 June 2012 Posted 23 June 2012 I don't think the OX should start he has not really impressed me so far in a England shirt although hes still young and hasn't had a lot of game time. But to me he looks scared when hes on the pitch and a bit greedy as well. The match against Ukraine he could have clearly played in Wallcott but decided to go on his own poor decsion making every time I have seen him play. I'd stick with the same team maybe swap Wallcott for Young. only god knows why adam johnson is not in the squad he would be perfect for the left side and creates lots of chances plus can score goals. baffling if you ask me.

Milner and Parker are both decent penalty takers, IMO.

You can't go into a game looking at penalties. You look at winning first and everything else comes after.
