Captain... Posted 26 June 2012 Posted 26 June 2012 Did anyone else think Young's best game was the first against France, when we started brightly he was at the heart of everything and playing a central role, he slipped in Milner for what should have been a goal and then we scored sat back and it was all down hill for him. I think Roy's tactics under used Milner and Young, Milner is expected to do too much defensive work when he plays for England and I don't know why, the burden of it stifles his attacking game, he will naturally bomb around and track back, but for England he seems scared to get forward. Young for united tends to float around, pop up on the left, in the middle, and on the right interchange with the likes of Nani and Rooney. He didn't do that for England and was quickly found out as a Left winger with a right foot. Our attacking threat was too easy to nullify because we attacked too quickly, didn't hold the ball up, and didn't get up in support because we had too many sitting back, Walcott, Young, Milner, Rooney were all crowded out by the Italians because they employed similar tactics to us off the ball, but slowed it down and used the ball much better when they won it back, and their forward players put our back four under pressure allowing their midfield to retreat.
cambridgefox Posted 26 June 2012 Posted 26 June 2012 Thought Henderson did ok when played. Young awful, Rooney disappointing, Milner functional. Lescott was the star man for me. ttfn, this is so hard for me,ive ended up agreeing with nearly everything you have said lately. Now where were we ........Beckford
Charl91 Posted 26 June 2012 Posted 26 June 2012 Hart - 9/10. Looked solid all tournament, couldn't have asked more from him. If he'd saved some penalties, then it would have been 10. Johnson 7/10 - Better then I expected, some good stuff, but also positionally poor at times and gave the ball away a fair bit. Lescott 8/10 - Pretty good I thought Terry 8/10 - also had a good tournament Cole 7/10 - Reliable like always, however, a poor penalty Young - 2 Very poor, our worst player in the tournament. A shame really, he's normally good for England, but scared to take on a man most of the time, and every time he did try he lost the ball. Offered nothing offensively. Gerrard 9/10. Along with Hart, my England man of the tournament. Great assists in the earlier games, and he had it all, tackling, passing, etc. A few sloppy passes, but Parker 6/10. To be fair, he did what parker doe s - ran around and tackled. However, he isn't creative enough or good enough at retaining possession of the ball. Milner 5/10. Normally a fan, but he had some bad games at the start. That being said, he did quite well vs. Italy, and it was a travesty that he was taken off instead of young, as he offered more defensively and offensively. Also being played out of position - would have preferred him to start in CM instead of parker. Welbeck - 7/10. Impressed me. Good goal vs. Sweden, defended well and kept the ball fairly well and harried their players. Did well considering it was his first tournament and looked much more threatening than his united counterpart. Rooney - 3.5/10. Useless donkey, only slightly better then young. First touch, pace and ability to keep the ball were all dreadful (worse than youngs), however he did at least score a tap-in and a penalty. Andy Carroll - 6.5/10. Not a fan normally, but a good goal vs. Sweden and he worked hard and controlled the ball well vs. Italy. Walcott - 6/10. Saved us against Sweden; ineffective afterwards. Hodgson - 4. Taking Welbeck and Milner off, and keeping Young and Rooney on was such a terrible decision. Also your negative tactics allowed every single team we played to dominate our midfield.
foxfanazer Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 Got mixed feelings about this tournament. Have we underachieved, overachieved or done what was expected of us?

Super_horns Posted 27 June 2012 Posted 27 June 2012 Content we got to the quarters but disappointed we never really gave it a proper go Same here...we let Italy dominate us too much after a bright start and seemed to be playing for the penalties which as we all know was only going to end in "tears" The defence overall was good and thought Welbeck did well up front whilst Carroll took his Sweden goal well. Gerrard was our best player until he tired against Italy. I too was very disappointed in Young...didn't even play that badly as a youngster with us. Must have been nerves or something.
