I'm surprised at the low marks for Welbeck. I thought he held the ball up well, ran the channels and even made some defensive contributions last night. Thought he had a good first tournament tbh.

I personally dont think anyone deserves the likes of 2's and 3's, thats stupid.

Terry. Hart, Cole, Gerrard, Lescott and Parker all had good tournaments.

Yes Parker is probably overrated but thats not his fault. All he can do is give his all and he did so all tournament, throwing himself in front of the ball and making numerous blocks. He lacks the class on the ball compared to Pirlo, Xaxi etc.

The young players will benefit from this experience though and should make them stronger, even the likes of Henderson and Kelly etc.

Yes you make a fair point. I thought Young was going to be our main man int he tournament but turned out to be the opposite.

He just seemed to lack confidence all the way through, maybe the Ox should of started.

Welbeck had a great tournament until he was forced to partner the incredible under-performing Rooney. Even then he struggled on to try to create despite Rooney's best efforts to throw matches and long-ball tactics which don't build on his abilities.

To summerize I think the defence had a good tournament. Hart was solid, so too were Cole, Terry, Lescott and Johnson. Johnson has his critics and personally I rate Richards and Walker ahead of him but he made vital contributions throughout this tournament.

The midfield. Gerrard and Parker excelled whilst Milner was average. Young just didnt turn up and Walcott had his usual effective 20 minutes then did little. Chamberlain is one for the future and Henderson didnt fúck it up.

The strikers. Rooney yet again failed to deliver in a major tournament, Carrol impressed me and justified his inclusion in the squad. Welbeck did very well.

Qualifying for the Quarters was a good achievement for this squad its just a shame they bottled it (again) on the night.

Is Milner a natural wide player? He was at his best in his Villa days. Did he play in the middle or is it just me???

I don't understand how everyone doesn't think Glen Johnson has been appalling. He lost the ball under limited pressure so many times last night it wasn't even funny, and that has been the story of his tournament. Often a liability in defence also, his positioning is frequently all over the place.

He covered for our slow central defenders and saved us on at least one occasion. I think Johnson had a decent tournament.

Given the injury woes and the amount of absences, I think England did fairly well.

Can't really fault a single player or a group of players for not showing up.

If at all, put the blame on Hodgson who decided to play it ultra-safe against Italy and for his love of Liverpool players (an experiment that only partially succeeded - Gerrard, Johnson and Carroll played well, Henderson I saw only little of and it didn't convince me).

Carroll, Defoe and Welbeck did well enough to cover for the missing Rooney in the first two games, Carroll in particular usually tracked back and also helped out in midfield.

Ashley Young and Parker were a bit luckless and had little influence on all four games they starred in.

Defence as a whole - 8.

Hart 7 - Good enough, no major errors like most that have gone before him. Two clean sheets, too.

Johnson 7.5 - I was a "Richards or nobody" man before the squad was selected and was scared at quite how shit we'd be down our right but Johnson had a very good tournament, justified his selection.

Terry 9 - Our best centre back. Everyone has forgotten Gary Cahill even got injured and Rio has shut the fúck up. Star man for me.

Lescott 8.5 - Along with Terry, solid. Not much got past the pair of them. Two set piece goals against Sweden and a long range effort from Nasri.

Cole 7.5 - Exactly what everyone has seen from him for about 12 years. Solid, gets forward, rarely gets beaten.

Midfield as a whole - 6

Milner 6 - Not the best going forward, but he was never going to be. Worked well with Glen. Bit unlucky to be slated by everyone, although he could've been better.

Parker 6 - Pretty poor on the ball but he'll lose it then win it back.

Gerrard 8 - Nobody in the whole tournament whipped in balls better than him. Covered defensively very well too. Was nullified yesterday, though, and it showed.

Young 4 - Didn't beat a man once, didn't get an assist, didn't look like creating anything or scoring. Generally very poor.

Walcott 6.5 - Decent in the small spells we saw of him.

Ox 5 - Alright.

Henderson - Barely touched the ball. Not enough to get a decent rating.

Attack as a whole - 5.5

Welbeck 7 - For a youngster in his first comp, he did well. Got a goal, ran channels, led the line well. Unlucky to have Rooney alongside him.

Carroll 7 - Same as Welbeck really. Fantastic goal against Sweden, put himself about, bashed some Italian defenders and should've continued to start after Sweden.

Rooney 4.5 - Unfit, very slow, missed a host of chances and ruined what was looking like a decent combination between Welbz and Carroll. Bit shit really.

Defoe - Like Henderson, touched the ball about once.

Terry -8- Because he is slow, the defence cannot play a high line. Nevertheless made some vital blocks and tackles.

Lescott -7- Solid, reliable. Roy's system enables defenders to shine.

Cole -7- Decent.

Milner -5- No threat going forward, covers a lot of ground with little impact.

Parker -6- Lot of work, worn down at end.

Gerrard -7- Good except ineffective versus Italy.

Young -4- Completely devoid of confidence.

Walcott -7- Provided threat down right wing, should have started more often.

Oxlade-Chamberlain -6- Promising, ran at opposition.

Henderson -5- Not good enough yet at this level.

Welbeck -7- Mostly good considering little decent crosses from wings.

Carroll -6- Heading good, but not good with ball at his feet.

Rooney -5- Flopped again on the big stage, careless in possession.

Defoe -6- OK in the few minutes he was given.

Roy -5- Unimaginative. Selected team to park bus, not to cause opponents any worries. Pirlo not closed down.

Quite a few players came out of this tournament with credit - Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott (Who I have slagged off alot in the past), John Terry as much as I hate to admit it because I hate the cunt, but you can't deny he played quite well (Had a poor season though), Ashley Cole played very well, Steven Gerrard (Best tournament from him), Theo Walcott did quite well, and Andy Carroll played well.

There rest were quite poor really.

Rooney - I can see why we played him and if he played like he does for Man Utd you have to play him - Unfortunatly for some reason he doesn't bring this form into England games, I think we were a worse team having him in the team when he came back from suspension, should have maybe stuck with Carroll.

I think everyone has gone abit overboard on the 'we're still shit' e.t.c - Not necessarily on here (I don't know if anyone has got that attitude on here i've not really read any of the threads) but elsewhere I have seen, read and heard alot of people slagging the team off. I think we did well, last night we were poor and Ukraine was poor, but there was improvement and let's be honest I think we all got caught up in the hype as usual especially when we played so well and came back against Sweden, but pre-tournament we all (I did anyway, I think I can speak for most) expect nothing, the team surprised me alot and as I said i've seen improvement.

Rooney -2 - Exactly what I expected, England most consistent player in major tournaments, standard of performance same every time. See you in 2014 when he'll be shit yet again but of course "we have to play him".

Defoe -4 - Pointless.

Roy -8 - Did well on short notice to get this lot out the group stage.
