chili_con_carne Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Could this be Andy Kings year? We know he can score goals but have we ever really seen much more from him than that. I like to see the centre mids putting tackles in and dictating the play. no more excuses now, he's 24 soon. not a kid no more! Just got a feeling that now he's had a long rest we will see the real king.
Schlupp Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Tbh I thought he shoulda got the armband over someone who has been here for 7 months,I think he'll do well if he plays more of a playmaker role than he was last year.
Leicester_Numan Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 He might do a lot better with Futacs in the team holding the ball up and laying it off for one of his typical runs. I'd like to see him put some muscle on so he's not so easy to knock off the ball by breathing next to him
hbkkids Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Probably not. I think he will have a poor season and leave and go to someone like Watford in January. Jus sayin
Finnegan Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Danns, James, Drinkwater and Wellens are probably all ahead of him in Pearson's plans to be honest.
MattyFromLE Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Probably not. I think he will have a poor season and leave and go to someone like Watford in January. Jus sayin Good to see some optimism.
connorlcfc Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 doubt it he was awful last season and he was awful against hinckley even though he score but it was very scrappy, and i like morgan as captain because when king was captain he was terrible he was never giving instructions to players,he simply isnt a very good player all round e had one year one he was really any good !
Mark_w Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Probably not. I think he will have a poor season and leave and go to someone like Watford in January. Jus sayin We've all got something to contribute to this discussion, and I think what you should contribute from now on, is silence.
marty78 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 He is a more than adequate squad player in my opinion and has also been at the club for a number of years, he does have some work to do to recapture his form though. I see no reason he still couldn't have a big part to play in our season. I also think the same about a few others like Gallagher, Dyer and even Wellens. Its a long season and these players probably will all be needed at some point.
Corky Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 doubt it he was awful last season and he was awful against hinckley even though he score but it was very scrappy, and i like morgan as captain because when king was captain he was terrible he was never giving instructions to players,he simply isnt a very good player all round e had one year one he was really any good ! Apart from the other two when he was good. He does need to improve, maybe the injury last season gave him a chance to rest and re-charge his batteries to go again.
Schlupp Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 He is better than Wellens imo. Agreed and King hasn't even hit is peak yet.
Westlife Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I think King was given the captaincy as a sweetener for him to stay and then last season didn't go as well as planned. I've found him to be inconsistent and find him creative one game, the lost child the other - my hope is that he can put a good season in and he played his best football under Pearson in my opinion . . . albeit humble.
Westlife Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Agreed and King hasn't even hit is peak yet. Andy Peake?
ARM1968 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 And here we go again. King was a legend a few seasons ago, now a villain after one injury hit campaign. Give the guy a chance already.
samstown92 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 He's an attacking mid, he will be a big part to our team if he plays an attacking role again but in a defensive role he goes missing and you don't really see him!
Mark_w Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 King has done a great job for us, it's wasn't just one good season. In fact he has only ever had one bad season, that was last year and it was to be fair to him disrupted by injury.
foxes2011 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Just fails to amaze me how emense he was a couple of seasons ago and seems to have gone down hill but a good player dos not go bad over night. He just needs to get fit for the start of the season have some match time in the pre season games and maybe be left on the bench for a few games so he gets his arse in to gear and realises he isnt an automatic first choice. Maybe King would be better as an impact player anyway
Mark_w Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 so he gets his arse in to gear and realises he isnt an automatic first choice. Don't think it's really fair to accuse him of doing that.
jonthefox Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 I was just looking at kingys stats. 195 appearances and 43 goals, so i would fully expect him to surpass two milestones this season. That deserves some respect if nothing else. All this at , what 23 is he?.
foxes2011 Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 He's been left on the bench before. Yer i know but i think if you leave players out even just for one game it would make you more determined to win your place back
enex Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 has hit double figures three seasons in a row would have scored more last year if it wasnt for injury. He should be in the starting 11 next year as hes one of the best finishers in the squad
Thracian Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Watching King against Hinckley the other night it was good to see him score an early predatory goal and look slick enough with his passing. It should have been the sort of start to encourage a vintage display. Instead he reminded me of Ray Wilkins - forever passing the ball backwards and sideways. Schlupp was one of the few to catch the eye in the first half. In a variety of positions he showed turned his man well and tried to make things happen. None of City's play eclipsed the almost telepathic natural partnership of Vardy and Nugent for the first 20 minutes of the second half - arguably the most exciting development I've seen at the club for years. The two looked like they belonged together up front. They both worked with thought and determination asked different but very direct questions that were finally countered more by the linesman than the Hinckley defence. But I'm not at all sure Kingy will be a first choice player in general this season. He does have valuable assets as a squad player for his fast, accurate passing, cool finishing and ability to play in front of the back line. But, with seven substitutes this season Pearson will have so many decent alternatives perhaps he won't need to overwork anyone and perhaps there really will be the kind of squad ethos that might make us successful. I'm still not totally convinced though. Only for those 20 minutes mentioned did the team look genuinely promising while a whole heap of long established problems remained. Friendlies are the place to get rid of bad habits and show a new resolve and, for most of the game it didn't happen. We were too predictable, we weren't ruthless and there were too many obvious shortcomings like not getting men into the box when crosses were flashing across the six yard box, taking too many touches in negative areas, failing to win the aerial battles in the centre of defence throughout the first half and not always maintaining sufficient width to stretch defenders when it was perfectly clear the Hinckley defence was cut to ribbons when we did.
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 July 2012 Posted 26 July 2012 Don't forget that King doesn't often get into a pretty poor Wales team. He's a very brainy player and has that knack of timing his runs beautifully. I would play King as a substitute in games we are controlling and when we need to score a goal. If he gets time on the ball he's dangerous. I would not play King in games where we have little possession. In the quick, scrappy games (a good example would be Millwall away last season) I'm afraid he's just not strong or quick enough to mix it up when we need a midfield presence. Therefore, I think he's a good squad player. Used in the right way, in the right games he can give you control and goals. But I wouldn't start him in every game. And I doubt Pearson will.
