StanSP Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 High drama at the moment in the Men's Gymnastics FInals. Who's getting Silver and Bronze?! Japan, Ukraine and GB all in contention. GB in 2nd at the moment in. Ukraine in 3rd. Japan in 4th. Japan appealing their score over the way their last guy's dismount being scored. Anyone else watching?
Bugg Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Japan's enquiry was accepted meaning britain go back to bronze.
foxfanazer Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 That was absolutely incredible. Really enjoyed watching it an was praying all the way through we'd get a bronze medal, can't beleive we ended up with silver! Thanks japan
foxfanazer Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Dismount? He fell off! What?! I stopped watching after I knew we'd won silver. He definitely fell off
goose2010 Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Boooo screwed over in our own backyard he fell off! Well I guess a bronze is better that nothing, first medal in 100 years
StanSP Posted 30 July 2012 Author Posted 30 July 2012 Fell off but landed straight on his feet. It means something and fair play to Japan for appealing. Any team would have! Bronze is still superb for us. Big for the sport.
Fox in the North Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 I agree with the decision, but the judges must have seen reasons in order to deduct the points at the time. As its now a correction I'm amazed the judges for it wrong as from what it seems it's an obvious score. That said its amusing seeing a team argue and contest how bad they c*cked it up
I am Rod Hull Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 00:10:40 http://www.bbc.co.uk...bbc_one_2012_hd
Super_horns Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 Least it didn't cost them a medal! Not been the best of games luck wise for Team GB.
Jimothy Posted 30 July 2012 Posted 30 July 2012 I've watched it now, just been on BBC 1. That's a joke surely, he fell off, never a dismount. Yeah he landed on his feet but it was more luck than judgement! If that counts as a dismount, I'm taking up gumnastics, I'm very good at falling off things!
Wycombe Fox Posted 31 July 2012 Posted 31 July 2012 I found out recently that the winner of GB's highest placed gymnastic medalist was my Great Great Uncle, Walter Tysall with a silver at the London Olympics of 1908. He missed the gold by 5 points, 317 to 312. Apparently his rope climbing let him down. The competition took place outdoors on the in-field at White City Stadium on 14th and 15th July 1908 and comprised Horizontal Bar, Parallel Bars, Pommel Horse and Rope Climb.
Captain... Posted 31 July 2012 Posted 31 July 2012 I've watched it now, just been on BBC 1. That's a joke surely, he fell off, never a dismount. Yeah he landed on his feet but it was more luck than judgement! If that counts as a dismount, I'm taking up gumnastics, I'm very good at falling off things! It was all on a technicality, basically you automatically lose .5 for failing to land a dismount, but he did land it, it was just a shit dismount, the judges have no chance to watch a replay unless there is an appeal, so they probably saw him fall on his dismount and just counted it is a failed dismount, but he did land it, he got no execution/style points for his dismount, but he cannot be penalised for not landing it.
