The Doctor Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Isn't Kevin Poole the manager at Burton these days? No, Gary Rowett is. Poole is goalkeeping coach though.
ADK Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Last season we played practically a reserve side in the league cup and for me that was the wrong descision. For one we lost to a team we would have beaten had we played a stronger side who then went on to reach the final. Another reason is that cup games are an opportunity to build confidence for the league, our FA cup thrashing of Forest led to an increase in our league form. Surely a semi-final or better is a definate possibility for a strong championship side going on recent history.

Normally we'd say a draw at Cardiff is a good result, we only lost on penalties and we did that with our first string out in 2010.
ADK Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Normally we'd say a draw at Cardiff is a good result, we only lost on penalties and we did that with our first string out in 2010. I was simply going on the basis that our reserve team were able to get a draw and you would think the first team would do better, of course under sven you never knew who the first team should be anyway. If i were the manager i would put much more into the league cup than the FA cup, both are worth a spot in the Europa league these days and the really big teams are not interested. I would be telling my players that we had a real chance.

But you could look at it as a couple of days earlier we had drawn, and failed to score with the first team in the league fixture at Cardiff - so this "first team would do better" is arguably incorrect.
Tielemans63 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 I'd put a strong side out. Momentum of any kind can't be a bad thing / winning becomes a habit and so on and so forth.
Finnaldo Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 Decent draw, something that can help give us some momentum if (fingers crossed) we can start the season well.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 16 August 2012 Posted 16 August 2012 I wouldn't be so sure to be perfectly honest with you. Your first team should do us over 9 times out of 10, sure, but put your second string out and I'd fancy us more often than not, even if you've got a decent squad. And yes, Kev Poole is still on our coaching team. He is a Burton legend too. Amazing bloke and class goalkeeper. That's good to hear. Yes, he's a nice guy and single handedly took us to Wembley when we knocked out Stoke in the PO semis in 1996.
