Jonesy038 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 How many fans do you think youll bring? Assuming it's an evening game, maybe 400-500? I wouldn't be surprised if we actually brought quite a lot of Derby hangers-on though, which could bump it up considerably.
Fox92 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Pleased with this. No disrespect to Burton, but it's a chance for us to get further.
Leicesterpool Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Would have preferred to have drawn them away, but as you say would should hammer these at home.
MrSpaM Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Burton fan here, pleased with this draw. Good night out for us and I daresay it will not be 'easy' for you. Sheff United thought the same thing at the weekend at Bramall Lane (and they did play their full 1st team). Sure you should win the tie but if you put out kids or reserves I'd fancy our chances more often than not. Looking forward to it. Judging by the squad we put out last night were taking this cup seriously so I wouldnt expect us to field a bunch of youngsters or reserves
RumbleFox Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Great tie. I was born and bred in Burton so always keep my eye on them. I suppose if I had a second team it would be Burton. Think we should get through and will be good for Burton too so good all round. And if we lose I can pretend to be a Brewer and laugh at you all! Come on you Foxes! X
AdamN Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Burnley got to the Semi-Final of the League Cup the year they won promotion to the Premier League. A good cup run can be a positive, certainly it's a lot better for the team to have a good cup run than to get knocked out at home to Burton Albion. Not to mention Cardiff getting to the final last year and finishing 6th.
Carter The Boss Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Assuming it's an evening game, maybe 400-500? I wouldn't be surprised if we actually brought quite a lot of Derby hangers-on though, which could bump it up considerably. Derby fans don't even go to Derby games do they?!
Father Ted Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Ugh. Hope we play a young / second string side. If we're making a serious bid for top four, people can't seriously want a cup run? Especially not in the league cup... Why not? Palace played Cardiff in the semis last year, it's a great opportunity for a Championship club to give a decent go at a cup.
Corky Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 First time I can remember that a draw has been met with almost universal approval, especially a home match against a lower division side
Sods Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 We have a squad big enough and good enough to compete in all 3 competitions.
Raw Dykes Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 We have a squad big enough and good enough to compete in all 3 competitions. I'd agree with that if we had SSL and Whitbread available, or signed one more defender. I think the squad is about the right size and quality, but we're down to the bare bones in defence at the moment.
tartanowl Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Burton fan here, pleased with this draw. Good night out for us and I daresay it will not be 'easy' for you. There's a big difference between Leicester and the shower that you beat on Saturday but congratulations on your win.
foxes2011 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Great chance to progress. Hopefully they'll make the tickets cheap and try to get in as many as possible. any one know if cup games are free for season ticket holders....?????
EnderbyFox Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 any one know if cup games are free for season ticket holders....????? No they aren't
MrSpaM Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 any one know if cup games are free for season ticket holders....????? Havnt been for years mate
Voll Blau Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Success in the cup often entails success in the league. The phrase "concentrate on the league" is one of the worst by-products of modern football. Knockout competitions are one of the only things that keep me interested in the sport nowadays.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 There's nothing like a good cup run. So long as you have the squad depth to cope, it can breed confidence on and off the field. Can be a good money spinner as well. I strongly doubt there were many Cardiff fans saying 'it's only the Carling Cup' while walking down Wembley Way last season. This tie, with all due respect to Burton, gives us an excellent chance of taking the next step towards just such a cup run.
AKCJ Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Good draw, keeps the squad fresh with rotation and we keep our winning streak going
gazrjohnson Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Ugh. Hope we play a young / second string side. If we're making a serious bid for top four, people can't seriously want a cup run? Especially not in the league cup... I have to agree. I feel a second string team would still have the quality to progress.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Is Kevin Poole still with Burton? Legend.
Jonesy038 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 I have to agree. I feel a second string team would still have the quality to progress. I wouldn't be so sure to be perfectly honest with you. Your first team should do us over 9 times out of 10, sure, but put your second string out and I'd fancy us more often than not, even if you've got a decent squad. And yes, Kev Poole is still on our coaching team. He is a Burton legend too. Amazing bloke and class goalkeeper.
Corky Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Our second string isn't a much weaker side. If you take last night's starting line up as the first team, the second string would include Nugent, King, Danns, Gallagher, Knockaert, maybe even Whitbread will be ready, so it's not a youth/reserve side by any means.
Libertine Dream Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 I wouldn't be so sure to be perfectly honest with you. And yes, Kev Poole is still on our coaching team. He is a Burton legend too. Amazing bloke and class goalkeeper. You'd reckon you'd be favourites to beat a team with players like Nugent, Danns, King, Gallagher, Whitbread, Kennedy, Futacs in it?
beemeroo Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 No offense, but I think even our 'second string' would have the quality to turn over a league 2 side if they play to their full, or would you turn down Nugent, King, Dyer, St Ledger, Kennedy, Futacs, Gallagher, etc at Burton?
