Ha haa, Chips & Beans was one of mine Jace, hopefully this thread will get a few fans singing and having a laugh at footy again.... ;0)

It was good mate but 2nd to the kid who started Pokey's only got 1 ball, I don't know how fans come up with these songs so quick!

What was the Walshy one. Can't remember it all but started off something like this.

Walshy wherever you may be,

Do you remember when we beat derby,

Steve Walsh and his ****ed up knee.

Once upon a time there was a Spion Kop,

Where we used to throw a can or two,

Where we used to while away the hours.

Watching the boys in royal blue.

Those were the days my friend, we thought they would never end.

We thought they'd never end,

We took the Shed, the Stretford End, and the North Bank Highbury

We live the life we choose,

We'll fight and never lose,

For we are young, and sure to have our way.

Torquay was a decent atmosphere, lots of old songs.

Those were the days really needs to be sung. Think I've only ever heard it about three times and then only by about 3 or 4 people which didn't catch on. It is such a good song to belt out, we got told off by the dads army in st anton a few years back for singing it too loud too late at night.

Love it when the classics get reeled off. Sadly usually confined to the pub before away games.

Wish some of the kids on here would take as much time to learn some of our old school chants and taking pride in our club's heritage as they do bumming whatever generic shit "witty" crap Soccer AM tell them to sing.

The problem is, where are these 'kids' going to learn/hear these songs if they're only confined to the pub before away games? Unfortunately, there isn't a section where songs like this are likely to be heard at home, especially as part of the 'match day experience' and if the kids aren't allowed into the pub then they won't get to learn it there either. Perhaps we need the older people to come out and sing more of these types of songs more often during the away games so we arent only stuck with 'We love you' and the other songs we currently use.

I do agree with the general point though. Imagine everyone coming out with this as one. Would be special. :)

City need a 'Kop Leader' always had one years ago, i remember Greg when i first started going down Filbert Street, its brilliant though how fans can pick up on something and make a funny song from it.

In the old supporters club end on Filbert Street songs were sung about Bert Tyldsey being 'Queer', Joshua Nkmo and anything topical that had nothing to do with footy but just daft songs that had everyone piddling themselves, sounds mad now to think back... ;0)

It always seems to me the atmosphere at the smaller away days tends to suit the older songs and the witty spontaneous chants. It is a shame some of the old songs are confined to pre match pubs and also the bus I travel on. I'm quite happy to give them a go at regular matches but expect I will get a chan of 'on your own'. I'm not in L1 and that's the place it needs to start or perhaps by those who have moved to the top corner of the family stand.

Anyway Tuesday night some fat old bloke called Zoony was asking around after someone called Doooug.....

Has anyone considered creating a website, if one doesnt already exist, with all the old songs on including lyrics, videos or recordings showing tune etc.

We cant expect the younger generation to know these songs if they've never heard of them.

Tuesday, the away end had ex-Baby Squad, old boys who'd follow for us for years and generally folk from different era. The half time conversations were ten times more interesting than those tomorrow. Most I'd gone for the laugh or tick the ground off.

You can't blame the young fans for not knowing the songs, how do you expect us to know them if the older fans rarely ever sing them? You can't learn songs that you don't know exist.

Have to agree with this. Despite the (sometimes) questionable content I always think the old songs add a touch of class to proceedings.

Wish L1 etc would keep these going at home games.

There's nothing worse, for me, than the 'seal clapping' Who are ya Who are ya or Easy Easy nonsence. Low class.

Putting nostalgia aside, these songs actually are very lacking in vocal impact. Most of these traditional songs are difficult to sing in unison with no deafening points where you reach a crescendo or have an easy rhythm. Just because the lyrics might be poignant does not make them good songs-they are too garbled and a bit like the lyrics of When You're Smiling are easier to shout than actually sing with gusto!

How's about 'There's a Circus in the Town' and 'My Old Man'?

Both easy to remember and would sound awesome belted out by thousands.

Back in the sixties and seventies there was always different songs . A few I remember are " Any old iron ,Any old iron any any any old iron, You'll look sweet with a hatchet in your head all the forest fans are dead, Dress in style stay a while come and see the city, Oh I wouldn't even shit in the old trent end , notts forest you wankers.

And Tip toe through the trent end with a razor and a sawn off shot gun tip toe through the rent end with me. ( sung to tip toe through the Tulips)

And finally if it went a bit hushed some one would shout " Knock Knock " the crowd shouts back " who's there ? again the same bloke shouts on his own. WENDY , the crowd shouts back Wendy who ? followed by everyone singing " Oh wendy blues go marching in etc.

There was a dark secluded shed,

Where no one dared wear white or red,

And if you shout Forest your dead,

Surrender to the Leicester Spion Kop.

La la la la laa la laa la laa la la surrender to the Leicester Spion Kop..... ;0)

Yes I think there was an extra few words in it.

Another quick one and easy to remember is

We're the boys in royal blue, who the ****ing hell are you.
