marbelladave Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Lets nail this formation thing before it gets out of hand...... We played a 4-2-1-3 with the front 3 skewed to the left, Marshall wide and Nugent and Vardy through the middle, no one really on the right, ok....... De Laet got forward to a degree, which gave us something on that side. Wagstaff played there when he came on but was too wide, uninvolved other than for the goal....
Noggin Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 I reckon so, he's a Sven sig- Oh. All true!! He was told to pass on a message to Nugent about Steve Bruce.... Pearson wanted Nuge to "go and hit that fat ****" unfortunately Marshall didn't get the message over correctly and Nugent scored 3 goals instead. They are both now imminently to be transfer listed and replaced with Pat Gavin and Jari Rantaenen.
DifferentViewOnFootball Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Ben Marshall is better in the middle, and that's a fact. That's not a fact, FACT!
Ric Flair Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Ben Marshall has still been very good this season, he'll hit the headlines again soon.
Goodie Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 But it was Marshall who was out wide with Vardy, while Knockaert was given the free role, think I would prefer Marshall in the free role, we will get more out of him then, and put Knockaert out wide, Knockaert is more than capable of causing even more of a danger out wide, than he did in the middle yesterday. Are you serious ? Knockaert was, in my opinion the difference between the two sides yesterday for the majority of the game. He was constantly available, covered huge areas of the pitch and provided that bit of quality in the final third we have been crying out for ! It's no coincidence that Nugent scored three and Vardy should have had two because of Knockys overall contribution. I'm not having a go at Marshall because on his day he is excellent but swapping him with Knocky would be crazy ! Marshall has had a couple of quiet games but that's all and nothing to worry about. Perhaps he could do with a rest ?
Haydos Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Why do we repeatedly insist on making such immediate judgements on players? He scores a couple of scorchers = the new David Beckham, he's average for a couple of games = there's something wrong and he might not be that good after all. Chill out.

Exactly, players go in and out of form, especially at his age. I don't believe he's being used to maximise his effectiveness, but there's no doubt he's got quality and will hit a purple patch of form at some point.

Knockaert can be great from the wing, Marshall is better in the centre last season proved that, when Pearson played him there for a couple of games at the back end of the season. Knockaert should be played on the wing, he is capable of cutting inside and roaming, he can link with Marshall better if Marshall is played in the centre role.

kingfox Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 So because he's played well there for a couple of games it's his best position Seriously what has he done from the wing, since joining? Few good performances here and there, but nothing really special. 2-3 home games last season, he was given the free role like Knockaert had yesterday, and was incredible, think we won 4-0 in one of those games aswell.

It's a small thing, and it really doesn't matter .. but as my day is turning to rat-shit and it probably wouldn't be a good idea to whallop the nearest person to me, I'll rise to this instead .... I really don't think we did. It was a 4-2-3-1.To say '1-3' would imply Knocky played behind 3 others. He didn't. I'm sure i even heard Shaky say as much post match ? It doesn't really mattter, but God I'm pi??ed off !

I don't deny that but do you think Marshall would be better in the more central free role than Knocky ? I personally doubt it. I would really like to see an in form Marshall playing alongside an in form Knockaert, providing Leicester with two quality flair players for the first time in a bloody long time ! At the end of the day Marshall is still really young and two quiet games doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things especially as we won both games. I'm also delighted that Pearson tried something different to his standard 442 allowing more creativity from Knocky and taking the pressure off James & Drinkwater in the middle. Don't want to get too carried away but things certainly seem a lot rosier today !!!
marbelladave Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 So because he's played well there for a couple of games it's his best position I think so, yes..... Getting Knockeart and Marshall playing together in areas that they can really influence the game is the trick. I suggested the old 'Christmas Tree' formation with the pair of them supporting a lone striker, gives us another man in midfield too, might be the way to go away from home......

Christmas tree you say... http://www.foxestalk...n/#entry2355033 Needs a few tweaks though considering we now have a striker scoring

The back 6 lined up fairly normally, except that De Laet was well pushed forward on the right. Knockeart played in front of the midfield pair, pulling all the strings with Nugent and Vardy up front, Marshall largely ignored on the left. Perhaps 4-2-2-2 would be more accurate. The only time we really played 4-2-3-1 was when Waghorn came on and played on the right with Dyer on the left. Anyway, hope your day improves..... Vardy did a little bit of defensive work on the right but mostly played down the middle

Getting our best players on the ball is the name of the game, the only thing that is certain is that sticking Marshall and Knockeart on the wing in a 4-4-fooking-2 is not the answer.....
MPH Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Personally. i can see Wellens' involvment in this. With him getting closer to full fitness , its clearly putting pressure on the lad. Somehow.

Didn't really feel Vardy pshed forward that much except to support on occasions. Either way, I'm off for a real pint as your virtual one has got the ball rolling !

Danno Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Haha from someone saying he's better than James Milner and the best winger in England outside the Premier League to this .
Guest ttfn Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Didn't see either the Burnley or Hull games but he got some stick on here after Wolves which I felt was completely undeserved. He was our only decent player in the first half and was marginalised in the second. His shooting remains unerringly accurate. Having him and Knockaert interchanging (and Vardy too if we're feeling bold) would be best for everyone. It would ease the creative burden on both of them and also allow both of them to be as involved as they want.

marbelladave Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Hope you're enjoying it now it's arrived ? Certainly did, followed by Mrs M's home made chicken biryani with egg and flaked almonds and a nice black lentil dall with spinach on the side.....
Leicfox Posted 3 October 2012 Posted 3 October 2012 Hasn't been the same since being away with the U21s. He didnt play that great for England either so it might have dented his confidence a tad. Or he might just need a rest. He has played a lot of games for a lad his age. Either way, I would rather play Dyer away at Middlesbrough anyway. Would be more effective on the counter attack and Boro have a few pacey players themselves. Thoughts? He's not made the squad this time round for the U21's.
