chili_con_carne Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Hasn't been the same since being away with the U21s. He didnt play that great for England either so it might have dented his confidence a tad. Or he might just need a rest. He has played a lot of games for a lad his age. Either way, I would rather play Dyer away at Middlesbrough anyway. Would be more effective on the counter attack and Boro have a few pacey players themselves. Thoughts?
DifferentViewOnFootball Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Agree that he hasn't been vintage recently, his performances this season have been hot and cold if you discount his goals. I guy of his age should be able to match up to the physicality of playing these games though. He has a great understanding with Knocky at the moment but I think he is better on the right, put Vardy on the left (if we must persist with him) and Knocky in the centre.
chili_con_carne Posted 24 September 2012 Author Posted 24 September 2012 Lets just blame Stuart Pearce!
harpendenfox Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 I thought he looked a little off the pace yesterday too. Certainly not for want of effort, and he's defintely a good'un, but a rest might be an idea. Drinky and James, or King, anchoring, Le Knock orchestrating, and Dyer transforming defence to attack with his pace sounds tasty. Somehow we need to provide De Laet with a bit more cover down the right, not least because he attacks so much.
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 I would keep him in, he's quality on his day. Quite clearly he's big confidence player. Look when he first joined, took him ages to get going then once he'd hit a few screamers etc, he was flying
Ashley Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 He was watched yesterday along with Drinkwater & Waghorn by England scouts.
AKCJ Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 He hasn't looked the same since he has stopped being the main man. Koncks has come to the fore and Marsh can't get on the ball as much as he would like too. Marsh still has quality and some of his passes and crosses are supreme.
Grey Fox Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Keep him in and bring Dyer on around 70 mins. Marshall can take free kicks, corners, and pens, you never know where he will pop up with a goal or create one from taking one of those. Dyer is raw pace which IMO is better used later on in games against tired defenders.
Fox92 Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 I wouldn't change it. We have beaten two decent teams in Burnley and Hull, finally got back to back wins, so I want to see the same team. I think Marshall, recently, has been ok. Not that good, but not rubbish either.
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Don't think it's Marshall off form personally. I think it's where he's being played. He's better central than on the wing IMO.
marbelladave Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Marshall has neen asked to play wide and stay wide, this is pretty obvious. NFP clearly wants someone in forward positions to provide some width and for the moment that is Marshall. When we are playing well we neither need nor benefit from someone hugging the touchline so Marshall is isolated and uninvolved. In an ideal world he needs to come inside and play alongside Knockeart, a bit like a pair of old fashioned inside forwards.......
Hollism Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Hasn't been the same since being away with the U21s? Are you joking? There have only been 2 games since then! Give him a break
dynamark Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Inside forwards?.Similar incident to Marshal lwith Waggy yesterday obviously under orders but the play was way left by the touchline and MW stayed wide right about level with the box I counted 6 hull players in a line between him and the ball.Completely out of the play and never going to get involved
Corky Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 He doesn't look too comfortable on the left, I'd let him roam around like Knockaert does.
kingfox Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Ben Marshall is better in the middle, and that's a fact. He is useless out wide, when he came into the centre last season, in an attacking midfield role he was absolutely sensational. Our tactics won't change, 4-4-2 has looked a good formation, but that right-side doesn't look that strong atm, with De Laet and Marshall. Knockaert was everywhere yesterday, and I believe Marshall is more than capable of playing the same role.

Though we would need to work out a way for them to play together, don't want the both playing the same role......
JoeyB Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 He was watched yesterday along with Drinkwater & Waghorn by England scouts. Bordeaux scouts were there to, who they were watching i don't know... Anyway Marshall has looked off the pace, i think we would be better going into a 4-4-2 diamond for Boro for playing a 4-3-2-1 having James as a holding midfielder, Drinks and king in the middle with Knockheart and vardy in the wings supporting Nuge.
Happy Fox Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 Bordeaux scouts were there to, who they were watching i don't know.... Probably Knockaert well I hope not.
chili_con_carne Posted 24 September 2012 Author Posted 24 September 2012 Probably Knockaert well I hope not. Can actually see him going in January if his form continues. He just looks too good for us unfortunately. We could get about 6 million for him I reckon.

It was either 4-3-1-2, 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-3, but certainly more flexible than it's been in the past.

But it was Marshall who was out wide with Vardy, while Knockaert was given the free role, think I would prefer Marshall in the free role, we will get more out of him then, and put Knockaert out wide, Knockaert is more than capable of causing even more of a danger out wide, than he did in the middle yesterday.

I think knockhert has knocked him off his mantle so to speak . Is it me or does B.M does not pass to A.K ? hence him over playing and losing the ball ? But once these two start playing regular together they could tear this league apart , both have skill in abundance and like to get it down and play .... Marshall will come back good its just that knockhert is main man at the min....
Captain... Posted 24 September 2012 Posted 24 September 2012 I heard a rumour in the playground that he had had a bust up with NP, it got me wondering, and you know what I reckon it is true.
