Daggers Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Bristol have always believed that they should be permanent top flight fodder since a stint in Division One in the 70s. They are wrong. Equally, they are wrong that (on Wikipedia) they list one of their famous supporters as being "Justin Lee Collins – comedian". He isn't.
ScouseFox Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 How come Bristol City are copping some flack? Cracking ground and a decent support. One of the only sets of supporters in this division to have any semblance of a real fan culture/movement going on at the moment too. They beat us a few times and didn't sell us Maynard despite us being a much better and bigger club. Tinpot.
scottthefox Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 The crowds they get are very poor, their history shows this is a high point for them and yet they get similar crowds in the fourth division. Surely that shows their small fan base to be loyal more than anything else. Besides, I've been at a Peterborough game when they've been playing in League 2, League 1, and the Championship. There is a significant and noticeable difference.
Voll Blau Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Wouldn't take the word of weirdos who hang out on other clubs' forums as gospel about the attitude of an entire fanbase. Saying Maynard to Leicester was a sideways move didn't do them any favours. I'm not sure about decent support, it's poor in numbers. Numbers aren't everything. At home they're good, away they're pretty toss though.
Guest Bilo Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Hull are far and away the most tinpot club in the league in my opinion. Some of their fans genuinely believe they are now the foremost club in Yorkshire after 17th and 19th placed finishes in the Premiership. They have the Mauled by the Tigers chant and try to pass it off as irony for crying out loud, what more do you need?!
Guest Bilo Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Numbers aren't everything. At home they're good, away they're pretty toss though. Forza East End are chronically underrated as a group in my view. OTIB is a twatfest of a forum though, like a cross between this place after a win and WACCOE on speed.
orangecity23 Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Since we're on the internet, I'd say tinpot means any club that is not the supported club of the person using the phrase. In the same way 'overrated' means things other people like that I don't like, and 'underrated' is things I like that other people do not. In terms of delusions of grandeur though? Forest, Forest, Forest. At least Derby fans seem to have a sense of humour and some realism. Forest have achieved absolutely **** all in the last 20 years, but their fans seem to labour under the impression that they are on the same level as Barcelona and Real Madrid.
ealingfox Posted 2 November 2012 Author Posted 2 November 2012 Tinpot clubs with a delusion of grandeur: Stoke Wigan Norwich Reading Blackburn Hull Brighton Burnley Birmingham Bolton Barnsley Peterborough Bristol City Crawley Swindon Torquay comprehensive.

Kitchandro Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Numbers aren't everything. At home they're good, away they're pretty toss though. I agree numbers aren't everything, but their numbers are pretty low. Coventry get a load of stick for having similar, arguably more. I'll take your word for it on their home support.
Mark_w Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Tin Pot - Petty insult used by fans of massive clubs like Leicester towards any club they consider to be smaller. Note: When said clubs (Like Leicester) are called tinpot by fans of bigger clubs that is of course outrageous.

Note: When said clubs (Like Leicester) are called tinpot by fans of bigger clubs that is of course outrageous. But as has been said on this thread, it's actually not really to do with being small, it's to do with being embarrassing/tacky/modern/small-minded/American. It's just that people use it wrongly.
Mark_w Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 But as has been said on this thread, it's actually not really to do with being small, it's to do with being embarrassing/tacky/modern/small-minded/American. It's just that people use it wrongly. Oh I see. So we are in fact tinpot then? Edit: Just spotted your earlier post, our support is our saving grace.

Forest have achieved absolutely **** all in the last 20 years, but their fans seem to labour under the impression that they are on the same level as Barcelona and Real Madrid. Very, very true. For a club that have not played in the Premier League this century they don't half think a lot of themselves. Add in the Chelsea Dagger, Forest garden gnomes and their love-in with Derby County and they've become a mere shadow of what they were under Clough. That said; they weren't a big club under Clough either, they were a small club punching massively above their weight having achieved next to nothing before or since. It was the fact that Clough achieved what he did with two crap clubs that made him so admired. Sod it, let's add Forest to the tinpot list.
Kitchandro Posted 2 November 2012 Posted 2 November 2012 Oh I see. So we are in fact tinpot then? Edit: Just spotted your earlier post, our support is our saving grace. Numbers-wise I said.
FuriousFox46 Posted 3 November 2012 Posted 3 November 2012 Have you ever met any of their fans? A few people on here will agree with me He's right, arrogant bunch at times. All came out of the woodwork after their back-to-back promotions and almost all support one of the big four as well as Posh Doesn't get much more tinpot
FuriousFox46 Posted 3 November 2012 Posted 3 November 2012 I hate the phrase 'tinpot' to be honest but I'd say it's a team with delusions of grandeur and poor support to match so; Peterborough United Hull City Norwich City Bristol City Birmingham City Reading
z-layrex Posted 3 November 2012 Posted 3 November 2012 Bristol City, fanbase are a ****ing joke. Also, I like Palace but they think they're a much bigger club than they actually are.

Is that because they beat us last week though? To be fair I thought them going for Holloway was a bit tinpot, just because they've cheated their way to 4th, doesn't mean they can prey on Blackpool, who are also tinpot but have been in the Prem recently and have finished above Palace for several years now. Tinpot.
