The answer to your second question is your first.

Football is more popular to men so obviously talking about it on a website will be less interesting.

I imagine the historical fact that football was a man's sport for men to watch has created the first scenario. It's only recently that women have become interested in the sport and also been given the opportunity to play it without being seen as unfeminine.

Very true indeed, but with the clubs/leagues efforts to increase the appeal of the game to females (which from the numbers now attending/playing appears to be successful) I would expect to see an increase in female FT'ers.

As shown by some of the posts in this topic there are some knobheads on the site.. but again thats part and parcel of the game and im sure that the females are more than capable of either dealing with or ignoring "banter" the same way that males are.

So even though the participation in the game is increasing... it does not appear (to me) to be increasing on discussion sites... just wonder why that is.

No, but at footy grounds the length and breadth of the UK I have had the rank misfortune to be positioned near enough to hear the abysmal whining and lack of knowledge about what is going on in front of them of a many a male.

In contrast, my wife and my sister (to quote an admittedly unrepresentative sample) are both fully conversant with the rules and nuances of the game, like to watch football live and on the TV and, IMHO, speak more insightfully about the game than the majority of men I know.

Go figure.

My mum is a City fan and has probably been one longer than most of the people on this forum have been alive. She has a good knowledge of the game and can f and blind and slag off the ref with the best of us. She used to go to all the games home and away and is a life member of the supporters club. She rarely goes to games now though as she's getting on a bit. She still fits in the odd away game if it coincides with her holidays or weekends away. In answer to the OP though there are plenty of female fans on twitter, my timeline is so full of chatter I keep missing the tweets from the Numan fans. The female fans tend to prefer twitter or facebook to forums such as this as it's more like gossiping over the garden fence

As for this "cvnt" business....is that what you call your teacher/boss/mother/colleagues/dole advisor to achieve greater influence? Probably the most cringeworthy LCFC whine is "We always get shit refs!" Fair enough, create some noise to intimidate the referee, but a load of peevish whining like that....if I were the ref, I'd give decisions against a home crowd like that just out of spite!

As regards "resting your case"...couldn't you rest it on a luggage carousel, while holding a one-way ticket to the Antarctic?

I can agree with that sentiment. The only girls in my family who know the first thing about sport are my cousins who were brought up in Perth (not the grey, wet one), one of which plays volleyball at a semi pro level. The other's into her extreme activities.

You are wrong on most counts. I'm actually quite a big chap. I was a prop forward as a younger man. I tend to think that women are unfathomable exotic creatures most of the time, so no, I don't prefer their company to that of men. Other than the missus, I don't really hang out with ladies.

I don't mind washing up when its my turn, though (and occasionally when it isn't)... if that makes me "henpecked" in your book, well... your book aint worth reading.

I usually have a decent jaw with the 70-year-old woman who sits on my left at home matches. Her opinions are at least as worth listening to as most of the blokes around me. Certainly compared to the old geezer on my right. I can't remember him ever saying anything good about LCFC, in 4-5 years sitting next to him! If they're playing well, he goes silent until they lose the ball, then chirps up "There you go again, giving it away, City!" That's between spotting foul throws.

I'm sure there's a similar range among female fans as among the blokes - from the perceptive and well-informed to the idiots.

There are definitely more women going to matches these days and I welcome that. Who wants to be crammed in with a load of lumpen, oafish, foul-mouthed, beer-breath blokes all the time (even if that description fits me, too)?!

As for the comparative lack of women posting here, I imagine that's partly down to the male-dominated atmosphere of the place. That wouldn't discourage the more self-confident women, but might put off others. When I do the school run, I don't circulate much in the female-dominated atmosphere of the playground - just talk to the odd father or mother that I already know to avoid funny looks from the more suspicious Mums!
