The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 Can someone explain the animosity between both sets of fans? Surely mk dons fans are from milton keynes, not migrating from london so whats tje deal?
Mr B Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 Because MK Dons are the real club, and AFC are jealous of their success and history.
ADK Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 Mk Dons took the entry of the old Wimbledon thus not having to work their way up the leagues. If Mk Dons had reached league 1 after starting out in the 8th tier or w/e i don't think anyone would dislike them. Also that meant Wimbledon having to work their way up from non-league. That said, i think after this many years MK Dons deserve to be recognised as legit, they've held their own in league 1 and produced alot of decent players. Actually if they were just called "Milton Keynes" that would have been better.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 December 2012 Author Posted 2 December 2012 I hope this is a windup? Not at all. ADKs reply makes sense and also obvious. Don't ask you never know will yoy
Mack Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 Whilst I respect the people who have built up AFC Wimbledon to what it is today, the animosity is for me misplaced by many 'fans' ignorant of the facts. I've also heard a lot of untrue stories from mouths of AFC fans this week. The bottom line is Wimbledon (now MK Dons) was a club dying on it's arse in front of 700 odd fans at smellhurst park palarse's ground. Merton council would not let them back into the borough to play having thrown them out of Plough Lane their home stadium some years before on safety grounds, and most of the loyal support had given up the 40 minute drive in horrendous traffic to SE25 to watch the team. So OK Winkleman and his pals took the club and moved it to Milton Keynes, but I was covering the 'protests' at the final game, and not even a thousand people turned up to show their disgust. Winkleman had two choices in the end, leave the club playing in a rented stadium in South London with only 700 odd fans turning up to watch or move the club elsewhere, as their spiritual home and fan base was being blocked by the local council. Somehow the actual facts of the issue have been lost amid hatred and rhetoric. Plough Lane is now luxury flats.

Guest Bilo Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 when did they average that? It fell dramatically when the move to Milton Keynes was announced. Relegation from the Premier League was the real killer for them though.

I have seen the attendance average around 2000 not 700. Not sure what Mack is getting out not sure any of the 'facts' he pointed out aren't well known (apart from the attandance which is incorrect).
Mack Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 when did they average that? Home fans. You used to get a a thousand odd neutrals mainly palarse with nothing better to do and then the away support. In fact after the club got thrown out of Plough Lane they were in the Premier League and basically lived on allowing in huge away support from the major Premier League sides along with the local London clubs. I can remember going to Wimbledon vs Arsenal one cold night and the ground was 7/8 full of gooners. Then the club got relegated, the away supports got smaller and the clubs own fans slowly drifted away. The slippery slope had begun. I lived in the area and covered the club for some of that time so know the saga quite well.
Mack Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 Just to add to this AFC dont even play in or near Wimbledon now. They play in Norbiton on the outskirts of Kingston Upon Thames in Surrey,
Bugg Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 I know people dislike MK for the obvious reasons, but they're a very well run club who have good ticket pricing and a good academy. Shame that no one seems to see this over the pure hatred for them.

In the process of buying Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, which has been losing money for years, on Plough Lane.

Good luck to them, about 400 yards from the old Plough lane. They'd have to pretty much re built that to make it a football ground mind you. Cant see where the money would come from for that. Surely most of the fans now are local Kingston people anyway apart from the few hundred die hards?
AKCJ Posted 2 December 2012 Posted 2 December 2012 Ian Stringer â€@StringerSport Come on the MK Dons #history #heritage #thehomeoffootball#concretecows #goodroundabouts #fishing
