Quiz question: What do Kristoffer Reitan and Maverick McNealy have in common?

So the PGA starts tomorrow

need to find someone reliable off the tee because the rough is deep

Scottie, young and fitzy for me

If you listen to the players interviews, they think quite the opposite.

Takeaways:

1) Fairways are relatively narrow so you're going to miss them, even the most accurate will

2) Therefore might as well hit bombs

3) Hitting out of the rough from 100 yards is better than 160/170 from the fairway.

Watch Decade/Scott Fawcett on strategy if you're into your golf, will change your views entirely.

Trying to control approach shots onto those greens out of heavy rough will be impossible

we can reconvene this conversation tomorrow evening!

Not if the rough is really thick and you can't get your clubface on the ball.

Its a PGA, not a US Open, the PGA Championship standard rough won't be a major factor to these guys.

Whether the course is firm and fast or playing soft will be the bigger impact.

If its firm and fast, you'll likely run out of the fairways into the rough and granted it'll be trickier to control spin from the rough than from the fairway. But if its soft, it won't matter as it'll stop on the greens anyway. Firm and fast fairways and greens are by far the bigger impact than the rough at a PGA.

Rough at a US Open? Different story entirely as they like stupidity and making the pros suffer.

Purely depends on how firm the greens are, not how deep the rough is. PGA level rough these guys get out of no trouble, US Open level rough though and it is a different story.

15 Englishmen in the field must be a record. About time an Englishman (or a European) won the PGA after years of US domination.

Fancy Ludvig to have a strong week and Sepp Straka at 100/1 could be a decent outside bet.

I was under the impression that the greens are hard which is why I said what I did. If they’re soft then yes, it wouldn’t matter much.

the rough I’ve seen (away from the first and second cut) looks pretty deep.

EDIT: 6mm rain overnight so they won’t be too firm today.  Got to make the most of scoring conditions today and tomorrow  - hot and sunny sat/sun so the course will become more difficult out of the rough as the greens firm up.

I really shouldn't feel so much joy watching Bryson struggle. Can't help it, just don't like the bloke.

There certainly is a penalty for missing the fairway. Probably more than what I anticipated," said McIlroy.

maybe we will see an unexpected winner on the basis that the long hitters won’t have the usual advantage ??  Especially as the next 72 hours sees the course firm up (although the pga could water the course to stop it becoming too difficult)

Definitely seems more like a US Open type set up. Some of these putts are frightening.

Can’t see the winning score being a low one especially if the wind stays up.

A proper test is this, as it should be for a major.

Love seeing the worlds best getting all flumuxed and blaming everything but themselves.

Some big names will miss the cut here and we might end up with another surpise PGA winner this year (i.e. YE Yang/Daly/Walker/Micheel etc.)

Rory tees off the 10th exactly 3 hours after starting his round.

Pace of play is becoming a joke.

Mystic Meg answer. Both are winners on the PGA tour in May 2026?

They have both won on the PGA tour, yes. (Reitan won his first event recently and McNealy's only win was in Nov '24)

But the answer I had in mind was that both their Fathers are Billionaire's

Didn't know that. Would they be interested in buying a crestfallen English football club?

I couldn’t believe yesterday when they said it was taking 6 hours. Size of field and the difficulty around the greens clearly doesn’t help, but even so 6 hours is outrageous.
