Eating in the city centre

Recommended Posts

Alright chaps, I'm heading to Leicester for a weekend in March to visit my Grandma in her home and my Grandad who may or may not be in a different home when we visit (he may also be back at his house - long story). On top of this we're using the weekend as a chance to reunite with my Dad & 2 sisters.

But I digress: We'll be staying in the Mercure on Granby street so we'll be right in the middle of town. Can anyone recommend places for the 4 of us to eat in the area? A place serving Everards ale would be a welcome bonus. Any help will be appreciated, thanks lads.

Somewhere topical that is Everards is the King Richard III boozer, places to eat about 10 yards away you have everything you could want in the High Cross centre.

Never been in the Richard III pub though so can't really comment on it.

I worked there for a bit. It's a good pub, get a few dodgy people. And then as promised land said there are places right outside there for food. The almanack used to be nice but not been for a long time

The owner of the king Richard III is my friends mum and dad went on holiday with Bobby a couple of years ago.

Go in there on a Saturday afternoon when leicester are at home it's always a decent atmosphere. If you want some food and decent beer try the Rutland & Darby.

Globe

Rutland and Derby

The one on Granby Street is being refurbished at the moment

They all serve Everards

Ones a bit further out serving food are

Marquis Wellington - London Road

Old Horse - Opposite Victoria Park (Recommended)

Another Everards pub is The Crow's Nest on Glenfield Road East. I hear that they do decent food there.

Most of the pubs in the City Centre will be boozers though, the best pubs for family and dining tend to be in the county.

Good luck

King Richard is my uncles pub.

Good selection of drinks, pool table, darts, relaxed atmosphere, juke box, sheltered smoking area and very friendly.

Can be a bit pricy though.

The Barlow Mow is an Everards boozer. Turn right out of the hotel and it's 100yards away on the right.

That's the one I was thinking of, but it's being done out at the moment. They are changing the entrance and altering the bar. Don't know if it will still be Everards. Why do you want an Everards pub anyway? 2nd week in March there is the Leicester beer Festival and there is always an Everards bar there.

The Pub on New Walk is well worth a visit. Smashing place.

Because I like to sample to local tipple wherever I go. I have enough mass exported ale here (not that there's anything wrong with most of them), so it's nice to mix it up and go local when I have the chance.

On top of that, it's got the whole nostalgia thing going for it from my Dad's point of view, so I have no doubts he'd like some Tiger or whatever they're brewing these days.

You should go to 1573 for a stunning steak then walk across to the King Richard III for a few beers.
