Am I the only fan who wants Pearson to stay?

Recommended Posts

my only question is why is he still here.

to the OP how the hell do you not how this has happened? even when we were winning games we were poor been outplayed in almost every game.

Plus he has loaned out far too many first team players.

The decision to not replace him during the break has cost us the playoffs,

Whilst I want him gone it is simply not true that we were being outplayed even when winning. We were poor against Middlesbrough and Wolves but even then to say we were outplayed is pushing it. Wolves were better than us and should have won but the Middlesbroug match was fairly even with both sides playing badly. Other than those two there aren't mny games we've won without looking convincing in doing so. The problem has come with Pearson abandoning the enterprising football of earlier this season in favour of the more negative stuff which typified his first spell here. I can only assume he was trying to defend our position. It has proven to be a massive misjudgement. A big enough one to merit his sacking.

A lot of people on here, and probably a lot of supporters in the land, completely agree with you. In my opinion, the flaw in your argument is that managers who are judged as 'bad' and sacked very quickly - are not given enough time to be a success. This in turn puts more pressure on the next manager and creates more demanding supporters, as well as leaving teams in turmoil and is bloody expensive too. Very few managers can come in and get things right straight away, and even if they do, supporters cannot expect it to be easy street throughout the whole of a managers reign. Most fans looking in would call us crazy to sack NP after a bad run of form during what has been a very good season. Knee-jerk. I used the example of Pulis, because a lot of Stoke fans are not happy with him apparently and want him out, due to a minor blip in Stoke's form... ridiculous.

Pearson has been here since 15 nov 2011 so approx 17 months.

At the end of this 17 months the last 10 games show this progress.

After 17 months thats unacceptable, if I emply someone who is already a specialist in the field, I dont expect them to need 2 years to get to grips with the job.

With that aside we also look bad on the pitch, there is no signs of "things coming together", and a fair few of his signings arent working out too good.

This is possibly the most reasonable post I've seen for the other side of the argument, I still think Pearson can do the job but I often think some tactical ideas are questionable.

Now we have nothing to defend why hasnt he changed it back?

All I can say is every game I have seen this season we havent been on top of the other team except blackpool.

Crap argument, you can't look at the last 10 games as a summary of how things have gone over a year and a half.

Luckily, owners like ours will not take fans opinion into consideration, which for me is the main reason why Pearson will be keeping his job. His job is to restructure the club, cut the wage bill and build a solid base in which we can work on. That has been the successful part of the season and can not be denied, league position and performance on the other hand is not so great at the moment. Results today see us 7th with 7 to go, a different story to the start of the year, it's depressing but it's also not the end. To sack him now would do more harm than good, if you've written off the season your an idiot, everyone knows anything can happen in football, as the play offs are also a lottery. It amuses me how so many people will us on to fail, ok so you support the club not the manager, for the time being there two sides of the same coin. If Pearson goes it has to be a no f*****g brainer, we can't keep making sideways movements. If we are going to bring someone in they have to be better than what we have. At the moment there is nobody who is any better than what we already have.

His job IS and WAS to get us promoted. It really is that black and white.

That is exactly how you look at it. Its called form and its called analysing progress, if his first 10 games like that then its more forgiveable ,but not after he has had well over a year to sort out formation, players and coaching.

Football isnt like 20-30 years ago, where managers can have half a decade to get the job right.

10 games is a long time in football and its also a 1/4 of a season.

I can understand that. What I do not understand, why if we wanted immediate promotion they would have brought Pearson in. He's never came across as the manager to get things done straight away, more of a long term plan kind of manager. I also don't think Pearson would take a job where he knew if he didn't get promotion at the first chance with his team he'd be gone, seems like far to much of a gamble for his type of character. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he was given a bit longer if we don't get promoted.

No, Pearson likes a small squad of yes men!

Any player that challenges him, is sent to train with the kids, until they can be jettisoned to another club!

He's the manager. He's in charge. That hard to understand?

Except for his first full season here.

Look back at the interviews when he rejoined last season as well as at the start of the season. He is completely aware of what is expected of him.

I want him to stay, i want him to do well, i want him to take us up.....BUT if this carries on and we don't even make the play-offs then i'll start to lose more patience with him

For me, it's not about whether we make the playoffs or not, it's about whether we finish the season strongly.

If this current form continues, and I think we were massively unlucky that it continued against Millwall, then Pearson must go.

I still hope he succeeds and I still think we will make the playoffs however.

We are going to have to finish strongly to even think about the playoffs and at this moment in time i'm not even confident in getting a win against a piss poor Barnsley side!
