Homophobia in Football

How is that homophobic, as it's not saying gayness is wrong in any way, and it's not attacking gay people.

And fans make monkey noises because they want to be a monkey.

So why do people sing it then?

Stereotyping. A bit like chanting "we pay your benefits" to northern teams and chanting "sheep, sheep shaggers" to Welsh/East Anglian teams

Yes, a HOMOPHOBIC stereotype. The other chants are irrelevant in this debate.

No they're not. Do the other clubs report people for those chants, no. The sheep shagger one is implementing they like bestiality.

That's a whole different debate, I'm sure Welsh clubs have good grounds to report those chants, incidentally, but it doesn't affect the fact that 'We can see you holding hands' is homophobic.

Drama queen flipping city.

A total stranger calls me a lanky streak of piss - implying that there's something wrong with being born a lanky streak of piss - but you don't see me crying about it.

Some good ones on there, But lets face it this is not going to be stopped. Its just banter. Like said we get "small town in asia" a lot and other teams get abuse for certain things too

It made me laugh that on sky sports news they said something like nearly two thirds of Brighton fans fear going to the football for recieving homophobic abuse, im sorry but i imagine that stat is massively wrong, fear bit strong lol

yep, incredibly witty and intelligent.

Who said humour has to be witty and intelligent? Sometimes the crude and blunt things are funny too.

Surely some of those songs must have made you smile at least!

I don't find any of them funny, but it was really a reference to the fact you thought they we're brilliant.

Jeez, its just banter... not any worse than the stuff we receive about our huge Asian population, and what sheep stuff Welsh teams get etc....

Don't know if I'm remembering right, but was it Brighton singing them sort of chants to us (eg you used to be English etc)? Or it might have been Bristol City? :S (or both?)

And for the record, the best piece of homophobic chanting in the history of football came from Olympiacos and Stamford Bridge.

(Queue YouTube.)
