Safe standing questions!

Hope I've put this in the right bit for a start! Basically I'm doing a report on safe standing if I get enough reponses I'm hoping to send it to Leicester and hopefully get a meeting and get them to agree on bringing safe standing back and hopefully go public with it!! I know it's a big if but it's worth a try isn't it?

The questions are:

1. Do you agree with safe standing?

2. If yes why?

3. If no why?

4. How would you feel if standing was reintroduced?

5. Would it make you attend more games?

6. Where in the ground would you like to see safe standing implemented?

Thanks guys and girls!

Yes

Gives fans the opportunity to experience the match how they want in an environment that is 100% safe as far as I can see.

Very happy. Ecstatic would be a better word.

No because I go to all home games anyway, but it'd make me feel more positive about attending.

L, top of K, top of the Kop.

1. Yes

2. Hopefully brings back the good atmosphere, but obviously only have safe standing in specific area of the ground e.g. L1 K1 etc

3. -

4. I stand anyway but I would hope it would bring more fans over to the L1 K1 area

5. I attend every game anyway so would not make a difference

6. Current family stand would be ideal but too much hassle to move everyone, so L1, K1 J3

P.S good luck!

  1. Yes, absolutely.
  2. Safe standing should be introduced as it has been proven to be safe, tickets are cheaper, fans love the areas, atmosphere is greatly increased and it would end the unnecessarily hostile confrontations between fans who want to sit and fans who want to stand, as well as end battles between stewards and standing fans.
  3. Without wishing to sound arrogant, I would argue that anybody actively opposed to safe standing doesn't fully understand what is being proposed. It's a no brainer, even if you have no intention of using a safe standing area.
  4. Absolutely delighted.
  5. Yes, without a shadow of a doubt. Cheaper tickets, better atmosphere and less chance of confrontations with stewards.

To the OP can you also add to your questionaire where the safe standing should be implemented ideally it would be the current family stand (to be renamed the Kop) as this is next to the away fans ,the families can move to the other side of the stadium.

I'll put my answers simply as...

1. Do you agree with safe standing? Yes

2. If yes why? Better atmosphere, tickets might be cheaper.

4. How would you feel if standing was reintroduced? Wouldn't be fussed as don't mind about seating as i stand at away games anyway

5. Would it make you attend more games? No

1. Do you agree with safe standing? Definitely

2. If yes why?. Better atmospheres will be generated with much less chance of confrontations with stewards. It provides ALL fans with a choice so will encourage fans either for or against standing at football to return again. How many times have you had a moan at someone standing up in front of you, or indeed been moaned at for standing in front of other fans obstructing their views. It'd demonstrate the forward thinking attitude the owners seem to want to establish. It will be the cure for many problems and indeed solve a problem which every fan for one reason or other seems to have. Nevermind these winter wonderlands etc, this is the type of thing that will appease the fans. There can no longer be any reason to oppose the rail seating concept on any safety grounds whatsoever. It is much safer than standing in a seated area, I'm still nursing my shins from Friday! although if seating was ever enforced in L Block without an alternative I'd never go again.

3. If no why?

4. How would you feel if standing was reintroduced? Ecstatic.

5. Would it make you attend more games? Yes 6. Where in the ground would you like to see safe standing implemented? Don't care, I'd be there

Thank you Happy Fox! I've done that

1. Do you agree with safe standing?

Yes

2. If yes why?

It's safer than standing In seated areas, creates an atmosphere, would encourage people who have stopped going to return.

3. If no why?

N/A

4. How would you feel if standing was reintroduced?

Great it would stop the big issue of confrontation between steward and other fans. Would feel that the negative treatment of football supporters had finally turned the corner.

5. Would it make you attend more games?

No I attend every game.

6. Where in the ground would you like to see safe standing implemented?

Family stand, L1 or the Kop but not really fussed.

this with

6. behind the goal in the Kop

1. Do you agree with safe standing?

Yes

2. If yes why?

Why not? People get choices, tickets could be cheaper, the atmosphere could improve, it could bring unity within the fans, and it's safer than standing in seated areas.

3. If no why?

Good question. I'm yet to hear a decent argument against it.

4. How would you feel if standing was reintroduced?

Good. I think it would be an important victory for football fans. Do I think it would completely transform football for the better? Not by itself, no, but it would be a big step in the right direction, especially if it is done properly.

5. Would it make you attend more games?

Perhaps, but there are other factors. I'd hope standing sections would mean cheaper tickets and louder, more positive atmosphere's. If that was the case it would certainly persuade me to want to go to more matches, but like I say, football needs a lot of change and this one thing by itself won't heal all the wounds.

6. Where in the ground would you like to see safe standing implemented?

The Kop, hopefully the whole of the Kop one day.

1. Do you agree with safe standing? yes

2. If yes why ?would create a better atmosphere

3. If no why?

4. How would you feel if standing was reintroduced? very happy

5. Would it make you attend more games? same at home (season ticket) maybe more away if other clubs implemented it

6. Where in the ground would you like to see safe standing implemented? either end

Good thing from i have seen is that kids could possibly stand on the seat that is incorporated into the design , so at least they wont be moaning about the view .

1. Do you agree with safe standing? Yes

2. If yes why? Because I prefer to stand during games rather than sit and it will help improve the atmosphere in the libary(ground) which I feel is vital when watching football.

3. If no why? N/A

4. How would you feel if standing was reintroduced? Great because then I would attend every home game and would probably by a Safe Standing Season Ticket.

5. Would it make you attend more games? See above.

6. Where in the ground would you like to see safe standing implemented? behind the goal, next to the away fans.

Hope this helps and good luck, it will only happen if fans get behind it. simple as that.

1. Do you agree with safe standing?

Absolutely.

2. If yes why?

Because I feel supporters in this country deserve the choice of a cheaper standing section like other European fans enjoy.

4. How would you feel if standing was reintroduced?

Ecstatic.

5. Would it make you attend more games?

It doesn't factor in my decision to attend home games, but I might be more inclined to go to more away games if they had an away terrace

6. Where in the ground would you like to see safe standing implemented?

Lower portion of the Spion Kop, sloped so that it doesn't impede the view of seated spectators behind, otherwise, blocks L and K.

You Are My Leicester, I hope the project is going well!  It's a very interesting topic to delve in to. Sometimes it's like banging your head against a brick wall to try and get straight and concise responses though, especially with LCFC...

I too have been conducting research on this subject for just short of a year now and have finally completed it. I have been researching into how 'Rail Seats' as used in Germany could be applied to a section of the Kop and a section of the away corner at the King Power. The response from fans all over the country and especially LCFC fans seems to positive, which can only be good! Most people seem to favour the choice whether to sit or stand but as we all well know, this isn't the issue.

Most City fans seemed to favour implementing a standing section at the back of the Kop, and this did seem to work initially. Standing fans behind sitting fans, they'll have their own designated area, it increases the capacity, bring in more revenue and would probably move a considerable amount of fans away from L1 and K1 (which does seem to be a target of the club, sadly) as they would now legitimately be able to stand. What could possibly be an issue?

As I looked deeper in to the case; I found 3 major problems which will disappointingly seem prevent standing ever being implemented. These were the issues that the club presented to me:

  • The stadium currently has 1 exit per 'block' of seats and in accordance to the maximum number of fans that could occupy these. Bringing in standing areas would mean creating another 'block' of seats with the potential to hold more fans. This would mean needing to create another exit for each new block as the number of fans that would have to use the current exits would exceed health and safety regulations. Because it is improbable that building another set of exits, this is a major setback.
  • According to LCFC the King Power is not designed to fit these seats. The rows are supposedly not wide enough and the steps are too steep. (However, I found no issues in accordance to the guides laid out on the Safe Standing Roadshow. It will be interesting to see what you find!)
  • Finally, this reoccurring of structural problems in the stadium. The club did seem to suggest that there are minor structural faults, and the added number of people at the back of stand would only further damage the internal structure of the stand. (The structural issue only seemed to apply to the stands behind to goals, so see if you could work with potentially applying standing to the East Stand. I can't be bothered now, it's submitted!)

So as you may have guessed, it's not looking overly likely it will happen in the near future sadly. And with the new Financial Fair Play rules coming in to effect soon, I struggle see the club spending big money on was is essentially not a major issue in their eyes.

I do hope you find more positive results than I have come across and rekindle our hope that it may one day become reality!  ;)
