davieG Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Leicester has one of the highest early death rates in the country. Public Health England said between 2009 and 2011, 2,834 city residents died before the age of 75. The rate of 343.4 per 100,000 people made Leicester 135th best area out of 150 for longevity. According to the website Longer Lives, Rutland was sixth best and Leicestershire 30th. The aim of the website is to drive public awareness and action to tackle health problems. Dr Fu Meng-Khaw, director at the Public Health England East Midlands Centre, said: "It (Longer Lives) presents a clear picture of health in areas – where it is good and where there is more to do – so everyone involved can consider and agree how to make improvements from a common basis of the same information. "It has the potential to make a real difference to the health of every community in the East Midlands." Leicester City Council said it was planning a campaign to encourage people to do more physical activity. It is expected to launch at the start of the school summer holidays, on July 12. Councillor Rory Palmer, deputy city mayor and chairman of Leicester's health and well-being board, said: "Our strategy sets out how health partners in Leicester will work together to reduce premature death by tackling key areas including alcohol consumption, smoking and physical activity. "We will also be building on the very good work already under way to encourage people over 40 to take up free NHS health checks which are providing earlier diagnosis and treatment for cancer, heart and lung disease. "A vital part of our strategy is to make it easier for people to live healthier lives. "We also need people from many other sectors working with residents and communities with the shared purpose of improving health across the city." Figures on the website put the city at 139th best out of 150 for the number of people dying early from heart disease and stroke. It was 129th out of 149 for the number of early deaths from lung disease and 77th out of 150 for cancer deaths. Leicestershire was 32nd lowest for cancer deaths and Rutland fifth lowest. Councillor Ernie White, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for health, said: "I am pleased with the county's performance but I am not complacent. "Our public health team has clear, long-term strategies to tackle major causes of premature death, such as cancer, obesity and smoking." The website provides examples of best practice from other local authorities, guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and links to NHS Choices so that people can learn about conditions and what they can do to improve their health. lavrentis Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Surprised Lincolnshire is above average in all honesty!
Fox92 Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Manchester is the worst, followed by Blackpool, Salford and Liverpool. All North West. Read that yesterday somewhere else.
lavrentis Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Surrey is 4th. Dissapointing really. You're right. 4th out of 150 is just terrible.
Rincewind Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Not all bad news. With Leicester having the highest death rates vacancies for undertakers has risen. Another acheivement by Cameron and co.

Webbo Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Not all bad news. With Leicester having the highest death rates vacancies for undertakers has risen. Another acheivement by Cameron and co. Has there been a sudden change in these statistics since 2010?
sphericalfox Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Did you enjoy today's news of unemployment coming down? I think sadly we all know the answer. Wow all 5k of them. We're definitely on the road to building back up the economy with that upsurge!
Guest MattP Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Wow all 5k of them. We're definitely on the road to building back up the economy with that upsurge! Oh hello it's Mr Triple Dip recession here to teach the World again...... What words of wisdom do you have for us today? How about this one? Throughout the UK, a record 29.7 million people are now in work. You sound like the sort of person that would rather the country failed while the Tories were in just so you could try and make a point, how negative.

No, I'm not dickhead, I merely pointing out the fact that you are are wanking over a minuscule figure that in the overall picture does not mean the current government are a success.

Less of the childish insults, you are supposed to be a father. I never mentioned that they were a 'success' (thought it is starting to look promising, he might even win my vote back) but I don't see what's wrong with posting some good news. Why not? The figures are going in the right direction, less people are becoming reliant on the state, just because that concerns you as it will effect Labour's vote next time out doesn't give you the right to want to drag everyone down with you.
Rincewind Posted 12 June 2013 Posted 12 June 2013 Of course the fact that changes in the way people are assessed for disabilities or benefits are moving from one department to another has nothing to do with it. Anyway I am now going to agree with Moosebreat all the time. Makes life easier and may add a couple more years to my life.

What because you're a forever singleton you can dish it out and I cannot. tut tut. Keep grasping straws and come back with some actual figures that have some weight behind them, before you try to use them a some right wing broad sword. I couldn't a give a shit how it affects Labour.

Yeah of course you couldn't. Right Wing Broad Sword? Thanks, you have just given me a new name for my penis.

Pointless jibbering over a number that might well disappear in two weeks when further layoffs are made in the private and public sector. Just because there 5k up right now, using this as a basis to say Britain is on the mend is so ludicrous and stupid it's beyond belief. I'm sure the ladies of the night will be well impressed.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 It's no surprise really when you consider our population. Most people of this age originate from third works countries
Guest Bilo Posted 14 June 2013 Posted 14 June 2013 Surprised Lincolnshire is above average in all honesty! I'm not. A lot of road deaths in Lincolnshire as well as manual agricultural jobs working with heavy equipment.
