AdamN Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 I knew the figure was somewhere between 2-3%. If they can cause what they have done with that god help us when it's up there at 20-30%. Scarper! If anything it just shows that they can't have had anywhere near as much influence as the media would like you to believe. Got 3/10. Apparently I completely missed one question so I got one point deducted. Some of those were almost impossible to know without doing some actual research on them though. 0.4% vs 1.1% is hardly a massive difference, percentage wise!
Guest MattP Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 If anything it just shows that they can't have had anywhere near as much influence as the media would like you to believe. Surely if anything it's the opposite of what you have just said?
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 I got 2 questions spot on but 3 badly wrong so scored -1 overall
AdamN Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Surely if anything it's the opposite of what you have just said? There's plenty of people in this country that think that Muslims are 'taking over' and within a few year's we (as in White British) will be the minority, practicing Sharia law and god know's what else. Clearly that's not the case, but it won't stop certain news outlets printing scaremongering garbage in order to pander to the kind of people that now hold such beliefs, which were brought about by the media in the first place.

Well that's exactly my point. We have had bombs on trains, soldiers beheaded, sharia courts practiced up and down the land, madrassas teaching hate and every major town seems to have had a problem with grooming gangs and that's when they only have just 5% of the population. Surely you can understand people being a bit pensive about it? It's not a figure that is doing to decrease is it? Are you saying the Media are lying that these things are happening?

I don't think they're going to 'take over', or that we'll ever be practicing Sharia law. I don't have a problem with muslims per se, it's just (in general) they're so bloody awful at integrating into our society in comparison to people of other religions.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 The average answer for percentage of people over 65 was 36%!!! How could that even be possible, that over a third of the country are pensioners!? Don't people realise that as people grow older there is an increased chance of them being dead? People really are stunningly thick. Having said that I got 4/10 but never more than 1 answer out. Pretty sure it was recently universally reported that crime was down overall, but violent crime was up - which the quiz says is wrong. It is worrying that in most cases the average answer tended to be the most extreme one. Having said that of course, MORI do lots of polls and the author of this quiz could quite easily pick and choose which polls to use to stencil their own "perception", mis- or otherwise.
Charl91 Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 The only reason I got a respectable score on it was that it was fairly obvious that it's a left wing orientated quiz, so I just tended to go for the less extreme options.
ADK Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 It's like those newspaper articles where "5/10" kids "think milk grows on trees" where it's obviously faked in some way.

No, but they are very good at making the incidents seem totally representative of the whole Muslim population while doing this with no other demographic (when another group does it it's always a 'lone nut'.) I have said on here before though (and I'll say it again) that the vast majority decent moderate Muslim population need to press to be heard more.

We will more than likely see those kind of percentages in post industrial nations such as ours in the coming decades, certainly among the white British demographic. It's a problem that gets a fair few column inches, so I guess that's why people went for the higher figure.
Guest MattP Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 I have said on here before though (and I'll say it again) that the vast majority decent moderate Muslim population need to press to be heard more. We can certainly agree on that, they also need to get into the madrassas and mosques teaching these absurd opinions we have seen and heard, how the East London Mosque can get away with what it preaches when it's surrounded by thousands of so called 'moderate muslims' I have no idea.

Yeah. Imagine the positive publicity from a group of moderates heading into a mosque where there was hate preaching going on and tossing the guy out on his ear? That would be brilliant! Another thing I will say about the media too - they tend to focus on negative stories as they sell better. Guess for the same reason EastEnders pulls in such high ratings. Do you reckon the majority of the nation are in fact closet masochists? It would explain a few things - like why negative storylines sell so well and the high sales of 50 Shades....

There is an increase in the number of pensioners as more diseases become survivable, but this pans out right down the lifeline - for instance there are more and more premature babies surviving that would have previously died. Maybe not as much, but it is a simple statistical fact that there are more young people than old people... where do you think the old people come from? Until the average lifespan starts hitting 95-100 (and I'm pretty sure it's around the 80 figure at the moment - possible misperception?) that isn't going to change.
Guest MattP Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Yeah. Imagine the positive publicity from a group of moderates heading into a mosque where there was hate preaching going on and tossing the guy out on his ear? That would be brilliant! Would be fantastic but it will never happen. To be honest I'd just settle for someone taking down the "no gays" and " no alcohol" signs that were stuck up in Tower Hamlets six months ago and are still there.

I did pretty much the same and scored zero i kept underestimating what i actually thought

If birthrates were constant then yeah, but they're not. The baby boomers are becoming pensioners while the birthrate is declining. I think Japan is the most extreme example, and China obviously albeit their one child policy is not 'natural'
General Smuts Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 Surprised how well I did actually. 7/10 but 1 point deducted for underestimating immigration

Problem solved! Right any other percieved "threats" that we can use to cancel out another?
Bellend Sebastian Posted 11 July 2013 Posted 11 July 2013 These are national averages though. It's easy to dismiss people as ignorant if these issues don't affect you but if you live in an area where 50% of your neighbours are on the dole with pregnant teenage daughters and sons who are always committing crime then you're going to have a different perspective. Well, I can see that anyone can make a judgement on what's around them. What's more mystifying is all those people - and I include most of my family here, most of whom live in such deprivation powder kegs and social unrest hotspots as Howarth, Charnwood, Solihull and Thanet, all of whom enjoy generous retirement incomes - who find all of this stuff so absolutely terrifying. Interestingly, they all 'Take the Mail', but the mystery about that particular quirk is why people who have quite nice lives are drawn to that doom and gloom. Is it as simple as being scared it's all going to collapse around you? The Thursday afternoon tea dance could be Islamified at any moment, of course

Of course people will be dubious about it, you only have to do some basic reading or travelling to see once middle class white areas that are now very Islamified within a time scale of your own lifetime.
