Zingari Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 Although I lived within a minute's walk of it for 11 years, never ventured in, for some reason. Or the Richmond, for that matter - too late for that now did you ever use the Emmy or Crow's Nest ?
SystonFox Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 did you ever use the Emmy or Crow's Nest ? Let's not turn this into a "rough pubs" thread
Zingari Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 Let's not turn this into a "rough pubs" thread they weren't rough when i used to go in them back in the 70's edit; or they didn't seem rough to me at the time , and maybe they were
Bert Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 Not really in Leicester though are they. I'd say fosse road south down by spar is the best area of Leicester. Real classy. Although I lived within a minute's walk of it for 11 years, never ventured in, for some reason. Or the Richmond, for that matter - too late for that now The curry house that's replaced it is meant to be superb.
Bert Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 did you ever use the Emmy or Crow's Nest ? Seen a murder in the crows nest, true story. The Emmy was ok, but only if you knew someone that went in there. You remember The Bosworth/Bozzy? All these are 3 minutes walking distance from my house, live bang opposite the Tudor.
pSinatra Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 The bus and train stations are the nicest places to be in Leicester because you can easily go somewhere else edit The Knighton area always used to look ok to me, but i've not been around there for a couple of decades now I was going to say South Knighton/ Clarendon Park area. Western Park around Letchworth Road is decent. I've been in the Merry Monarch loads of times - used to play them at darts. Always a chance of a fight breaking out. I didn't think The Empire was very bad at all.....same with The Crows. I lived at the top end of Glenfield Road quite a few years ago. Of that area, The Blue Moon was the worst.

Yes I think heard about that .in the crowies There was a murder at the good neighbours when I lived up that way( i didn't see it though) Someone had a paving slab dropped on their head i heard . Nasty business . i often used the tudor it was a good local pub , but not been in for about 20 years now i remember the bozzy , it opened around the mid 60's . i think it had changed to a furniture shop last time i looked The Blue Moon off glenfield road ( not sure what it is now )was always my favourite in the 60's 70's though

pSinatra Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 I used to love the blue moon ( a long long time ago though) Once you left the quality of clientele dropped off significantly. Spent more time closed than open because of drug busts & alike. Mind, that was the only reason I used to go in there!!

The Bozzy is indeed "Mick and Dens" furniture store.

The Bozzy is indeed "Mick and Dens" furniture store. i think so , but i thought he had 2 daughters ( they sometimes served behind the bar) i don't remember him having any lads, but i was never actually a regular in there Have i got the right chap or am i going back too far ?
Bellend Sebastian Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 Seen a murder in the crows nest, true story. Is that the one not too many years back where the bloke went home (incidentally about 5 doors down the road from me at the time) to get a knife, before going back and killing someone? As much as I remember the murder itself being news, I also remember it being reported at the time that there was someone else in the Crow's Nest that day, threatening people with a saw, in a supposedly unrelated incident. I remember thinking then, seems like a lively venue

I was once threatened with a tin opener What did he threaten to do ? saw off the legs of the chair while they were at the bar so they'd fall off

A tin opener? The mind boggles. I've only been threatened with a weapon once, a knife, but as it was in the hands of a nine year old and I was about 16 it wasn't that frightening

Shit my pants when he walked past me with one in either hand.

Shit my pants when he walked past me with one in either hand. Just the one weapon bearing nutter then - just shows how the story gets confused in the media. One too many, all the same. Although he lived so close to me I had no idea who he was. There were higher profile alarming people on our road at the time, who never managed anything like that
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 19 July 2013 Posted 19 July 2013 Walk around Aylestone is nice. Especially near the whitehouse. Ah! That's where I come from.
lavrentis Posted 20 July 2013 Posted 20 July 2013 Not really an area but New Walk is nice, think there is luxury flats down there and also the area around UoL as well.
vandamman Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 London Road - Stoney Gate is a nice place, but not a lot going on down there.
Swalker Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Why the hate for syston? It's nowhere near as nice as rothley but its not a dive to Coalville level
AoWW Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 I used to work in the Crow's Nest. Before the time of the knife/saw bloke, though. Not the quaintest of pubs.

I used to go in there a lot in the mid 80,s Do you remember a charming intelligent tall dark haired strikingly good looking bloke always surrounded by flirty girls desperate to get attention ? Well one of those girls was me in drag.
