The Text "Ellis" Campaign

Bit of a plea to fellow LCFC supporters...

My son suffers from a rare chromosome disorder called MECP2 Duplication Syndrome, which affects many aspects of his development. Recently a breakthrough has been made in research and a cure is now a possibility!

Due to how rare his condition is, there is no funding available from the government, so we are having to raise the money ourselves. As his Daddy, I'm not prepared to sit and do nothing to fight for my little boys future!

Next season, along with 2 of Ellis' uncles (1 of them being "Pagey" on the forum), I will be cycling to every Leicester City away fixture, promoting a text code and number. Anyone will be able to donate to our cause by simply texting MECP77 followed by £1, £2, £3, £5 or £10 to 70070.

As you have probably gathered, the first journey I will be making is the 174 mile trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday - not the ideal one to start with given the distance! undecided.gif

I need as much help as possible to help raise awareness for this campaign throughout the coming season. If any of you have any ideas or can perhaps spare some time to help promote the campaign at the games or collect donations, it would be really appreciated! Also, if anyone fancies joining us on any of the rides, collecting your own sponsorship for the campaign...the more the merrier!

I also hope that some of you may be able to help by donating to the cause, even if it is just £1...EVERYTHING HELPS!

More information on the challenge and my sons condition can be found at http://www.textellis.com or you can visit my JustGiving page http://www.justgiving.com/textellis

Thanks Daimien, sounds great! I'll send you an email and we can see if we can organise something :) Keep thinking of those ideas!

Thanks Steve, we need as many followers as possible to keep the awareness going. I should be getting a list of all of the charity contacts for all of the clubs in the league tomorrow so I'll be getting in contact to see what they can all do :)

We have managed to raise £1,175.00 so far. Cant thank everyone enough for the support we have received.  :)

If anyone has a copy of yesterdays Leicester Mercury there is an interview with Richard on page 17

£1,175.00 and we haven't even started the season yet! :) Thank you all for the donations, please support us by telling all of your family/friends about the campaign, every single donation helps us get closer to the target of £100,000!

Getting a pretty good response from the Boro fans on there forum as well...maybe support different teams but they are all getting behind the campaign and making donations or telling people about it.

They di find it highly amusing that we have Yeovil on a Tuesday night though lol

Another idea is, you could have a sponsors shirt, something along the lines of what Stringer did for the Foxes Foundation, you could also get sponsors for the bikes, then keep taking pictures and posting them on Twitter and your website.

get in contact with the BBC and independent radio stations which cover the clubs and get them to do interviews. Get onto sky sports too, as they own our fixtures ;) Dont forget to contacts for away cup games,, and why limit it to our league? See if you can get support /awareness from Scotland, La liga, Seria A Bundeliga etc. What you got to lose for the price of an email/ phone call! Try lineker,, get him on board and he must have some contacts....Beckham?? Just cast net far and wide... Tweet Gabby Yorath , ssn staff, jeff stelling and his panel, soccer am,, etc.. See if Lcfc will put it on scoreboards at all home games and ask all fans with facebook to share page / and with Twitter to follow and retweet.. Ask other local sports teams to retweet,, tigers riders, hockey, speedway cricket #Leicestersportsfamily

Cheers for the replies guys  :)

Richard and Gary left for there first leg of the journey yesterday. They arrived at the ground and Alan Birchnell was there along with Nigel Pearson and Top to see them off so it was a great surprise for them.

Nigel Pearson spent time talking to Richard and has donated £1000 out of his own money to the campaign  :scarf:  :scarf:  :pearson:  :appl:  :appl:  :appl:

I am personally gutted that I can not do the first game due to it being stock take today across the company and no one is aloud to book time off even the directors. I will be there tomorrow though to see them cross the finishing line

Spoke to Richard today, they left yesterday afternoon and cycled around 65 miles and stopped in Retford last night. They are hoping to do around 100 miles today with the remainder to be completed tomorrow.

Completed Derby yesterday. We set off from the KP at 9.15 and got to Derby around 12.30. We stopped on the way but all in all everything went to plan for the journey

What I will say is how disappointed we were with Derby County as a football club. We emailed them and asked for permission to hand out leaflets and do a bit of collecting but they refused point blank. We were contacted by a Derby County supporter on Twitter called the Flag Man who invited us to their fan park at the front of the stadium and we raised the campaign to some Derby fans who I must say were excellent yesterday. The Flag Man won Football League fan of the year and is also responsible for Derby's giant flag that they take all over the UK, for those who follow the campaign on twitter you will see him with our Text Ellis T-Shirt on.

We went over the road to the JD Sports gym and explained what we was doing and if they mind us using there changing room and we were told a simple 'No' They would not give me no reason what so ever, just think it was the fact we were Leicester supporters if I am honest

Once inside the ground I tried to hand a few leaflets out but was stopped and threatened to be evicted if I carried on and also we were told to return our buckets to the coach by the Head of Security there.

Bearing in mind we are not asking for no money from these football clubs just somewhere to have a quick shower and permission to hand leaflets out but Middlesborough and Derby both declined. Hopefully we will get a better response out of Charlton

Thats appauling behaviour from the clubs, is there anyway you can ask someone from lcfc to act a middleman in the future? It might help i guess.

Just donated. Hope your reception gets better over the course of the season. You should contact the Football League Show about this. Maybe they will do a feature. It is the kind of thing that goes down well with tv audiences - ie you arrive at the ground that Mark Clemmit is doing a feature on or something like that. It might not be a goer but worth a try.
