The Text "Ellis" Campaign

Recommended Posts

Firstly I just wanted to thank you all for your words of support...the text"ellis" campaign is really starting to take off now and we are starting to really believe that the £100,000 target can be reached! :)

It seems that we may have caused a bit of confusion in terms of how much we have raised. After the pledge of £23,000 from the club, I was adding £1000 to the total after each game we completed...which is why on the radio I mentioned we had over £50,000 in donations AND pledges still to come in (a few other companies have pledged donations too). This morning I have decided that it's causing too much confusion, so I've added ALL pledges to the total as well....which gives the exact figure of how much we have raised so far - £50,218.38!

We also had to change our JustGiving page as the money was originally being collected through JustGiving by Rett UK, but unfortunately they decided they no longer wanted to be involved in the campaign. To cut a long story short Rett UK focus their efforts on SUPPORT with families with children suffering from MECP2 related disorders, they do not believe in searching for cures. They were originally happy to help, but now the campaign has gathered so much momentum and generated so much publicity, they felt that by continuing to be involved with the campaign, they would be going against their morals as a charity.

Luckily their is a charity called Reverse Rett who concentrate solely on research, with any money raised through them going direct to the research project that we are hoping to help fund from the text"ellis" campaign. From now on Reverse Rett will continue to accept the JustGiving donations online and through text message, with every penny being used to fund the research project that we hope will one day cure Ellis' condition.

We have kept our old page online so as we can still see all of the kind messages from anyone who has donated, along with being able to see a breakdown of the donations from the first £32,182.98. This page can now be found at www.justgiving.com/textellis1

It's a shame that we had to do this and generate some confusion, but unfortunately it was beyond our control. Hopefully that should clear up any confusion caused :)

How do you get back home from the away trips?

We have been getting back via friends or family. On occasions we have come back on the supporters coaches.

Wonder if the Club would allow you to have a collection inside the ground during a game, the aim being to encourage everyone in attendance to put a quid in the bucket. It wouldn't be that hard to organise and might be a relatively pain free way to collect 20 grand or so

Leicester City fans have the chance to get their hands on the Championship trophy

Read more: http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/hands-Lady/story-20570029-detail/story.html#ixzz2sZbwYl73

City fans will have the chance to get their hands on the Championship trophy this weekend – and raise money for charity at the same time.

Football League sponsor Sky Bet is offering Leicester fans the chance to have their picture taken with the trophy, known as The Lady.

Supporters, of course, are hoping the trophy will be winging its way to the King Power Stadium at the end of the season if the Championship leaders' fantastic winning run continues.

The trophy will be on show from 11am to 5pm on Sunday in the lower west mall, outside Sole Trader, at Highcross shopping centre in Leicester.

Sky Bet is backing the "text ellis" campaign launched by Leicester City fan Richard Page, who is cycling to all the team's away fixtures this season.

Richard, 28, of East Goscote, is raising funds to find a cure for MECP2 Duplication Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder from which his six-year-old son, Ellis, suffers.

A professional photographer will take pictures of fans with the trophy for a suggested donation of £5 per picture, with proceeds going to "text ellis".

Richard, whose campaign has so far raised about £55,000 towards his £100,000 target, said: "I think it's brilliant, fantastic to have the trophy in the city.

"They don't want to jinx anything but there is quite a buzz going around Leicester at the moment.

"I couldn't ask for any more support than I've had from Sky Bet.

"They have gone far beyond what I expected they would do for us – they are constantly in touch with me about new ideas to raise the charity's profile.

"I'm sure having their picture taken with the trophy will be quite popular with Leicester fans and I'm confident quite a bit of money will be raised.

"A lot of the fund-raising I do is at the grounds, but this is right in the heart of Leicester and we will be able to tell more people, not just Leicester fans, what the campaigns about.

"People think I'm a lucky charm with Leicester playing so well away. It's nice to go to the away games and see them win. There's a real party atmosphere and it helps you get there when you have to cycle."

Richard, who will be at Highcross with Ellis, wife Leanne and other family members, said: "We need another big push. The fundicon1.png stands at about £55,000 so there's still a long way to go and only eight games left to cycle to."

Leanne said: "It's going really well. I never thought the campaign would take off like this. When Richard sat me down and told me what he would like to do, I didn't think we would get this far."

Pictures will be available from Sky Bet's Flickr page, and fans tweeting their picture using the hashtag #FLTrophywill go into a draw to win a Leicester City shirt signed by the first team squad.

TWTD Message Boarder Stickymockwell is cycling to Leicester for this Saturday’s game to raise money for the Text Ellis campaign. Sticky, real name Tom Watkins, will make the trip over two days.

Back in November, when the Foxes visited Portman Road, Richard Page, who is cycling to every Leicester away game this season to raise money to help his ill son, posted on the TWTD Message Board outlining the details of the Text Ellis campaign. Town fans subsequently raised around £2,800.

Sticky said: “I was really moved by Richard’s determination and drive to help find a cure for his son Ellis who has a rare chromosome disorder and decided that I would like to help add to the total seeing as how amazing everyone on here was when donating at the time of the home fixture.

“If you want to sponsor me can you please go onto https://www.justgiving.com/textellisand put either ITFC, Stickymockwell or Tom in the comments box just so we know how much we've raised.

“I'm biking from Portman Road to Peterborough on Friday (95 miles) and you can see my route here and then from Peterborough to the King Power Stadium (42 miles) on Saturday when fellow TWTD poster Throbbe will accompany me with some support and motivation.

“I've set up a Twitter account as well so I can post my progress through the journey if anyone is interested.”

They're doing a Champions auction - here's the 'Champions' banner that the players celebrated with at Bolton, signed by the squad.

That has really made me smile.

We really are privileged to support such a wonderful club. They could quite easily have put that in some trophy room and let it collect dust but it's being put to it's best use, making people happy.

We completed the final ride yesterday and had a convoy of 12 riders who joined me, my brother and Gaz

We left Leicester at around 8.30am on Friday morning with Barnsley our destination which was around 79 miles. Everything was going well until Nottingham and the heavens opened, we were cycling for around 9 hours in wind and heavy rain, we had a few punctures on the way and a couple of people fell off (No one hurt) but we arrived at the Travelodge at around 9pm. We were all cold, wet and hungry so a quick shower, few beers and some food and we was in bed,

We set off at around 8.30 am the next day for the very hilly 18 miles to Huddersfield. There were some tired faces and legs but we all pulled through and arrived in Huddersfield safely.

All the riders were amazing and I can not thank them enough for what they have done for my brother, to see Leicester fans all come together for this ride was fantastic and when we crossed that finish line it was emotional and I do not mind admitting I cried.

The Leicester fans have been so supportive this season to the textellis campaign and without it the goal would of been so much harder.

I just want us to have one last push for the £100,000 target for next Saturday so we can reach it. If every fan in the ground donated £1 we would almost certainly hit the target and get the ball rolling for my Nephew. If any one wants to donate then please check out www.textellis.com and read all about what my brother is doing for his son

Well done, what you've achieved is amazing, listened to Richard talking with Birch and Stringer on the RL podcast this morning - difficult to get my head around how physically exhausting and mentally draining it would be to do what you've done.  :appl:

Physically it gets slightly easier, mentally it's tough, especially in the bad weather conditions. All I do is picture my nephews face when it gets tough and it drives me through

Well done you and the TextEllis team - donated 50 quid yesterday - All the best with the target

You could go around the stands against Donny with donation buckets and collect even more !
