macca Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 Last Friday we had some police officers in the area following three separate incidents in which garages were broken into. We had a young uniformed copper knock at our door and before he came in my wife asked if he could take his shoes off as the wood block flooring had just been re-stained. He said "I'm not really supposed to do this" but he squatted down at the front door and removed his boots, leaving them in the hall. He came in and sat down and I was really surprised to see that he had plain white socks on! Don't the police forces have required dress codes? Surely it's black or navy blue socks only?
Darkon84 Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 If you think that's the worst thing with coppers these days, try reading the 40 Sikh thread!
Guest MattP Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 Couldn't care less if they are dressed as Doink the Clown if they do their jobs properly.
macca Posted 31 July 2013 Author Posted 31 July 2013 I just thought it was an odd thing to see. Wo would wear white socks with black shoes and black trousers anyway and even more so, someone in a disciplined, uniformed profession! Just seemed strange.

Black trousers and white socks, brings me back to my school days in the 80s.
Guest MattP Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 Bet Purpleronnie wore white socks and black shoes in the 80's.
RobHawk Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 He's perhaps undercover hoping to infiltrate a gang on 80's throwbacks!
Webbo Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 I was searched after going through the scanners at the airport recently, when they asked me to take my shoes off I realised I had a hole in my sock. Quite embarrassing .
macca Posted 31 July 2013 Author Posted 31 July 2013 Well done to the copper for taking his shoes off. The good lady was pleased too!!
Hollism Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 Suppose he is supposed to, but it's not the sort of thing that ever gets mentioned or enforced since he's not supposed to take his boots off
macca Posted 31 July 2013 Author Posted 31 July 2013 Suppose he is supposed to, but it's not the sort of thing that ever gets mentioned or enforced since he's not supposed to take his boots off Why? Is that some sort of police rule?
The God Emperor Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 Why? Is that some sort of police rule? at my work we wear steel toe caps and are forbidden from removing them in case something falls on our feet (which caused a problem when I had to work in a hindu temple). I imagine this is the same reason the police don't either.

Hollism Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 Why? Is that some sort of police rule? I don't know... it was mentioned in the OP. I would imagine it would be in case he needed to run off after someone but I have no real idea.
Rincewind Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 As a security officer I don't think the socks mattered too much as long as they were not offensive with a silly design like Homer Simpson. We were not inspected for socks anyway. White shire clip on tie blue jumper. The last boss did not like caps though he said leave it at home. The place before on the first day I was made to stand in front of the mirror shoulders back cap on soldier style. He was an ex-officer in RAF.Only had to wear it at one site when on patrol Order from those doing the hiring. Don't see many coppers with ties now but if they do the job who cares as long as they use a decent aftershave. I always took my tie off unless here was an inspection due. Even wore sandals inside.
Finnegan Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 Bet Purpleronnie wore white socks and black shoes out today.
MikeyT Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 This thread is baffling. It's a thread about the colour of someone's socks! Does it really matter?
FoxesAreBlue Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 I thought that, don't worry, the season starts on Saturday!!
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 31 July 2013 Posted 31 July 2013 I thought that, don't worry, the season starts on Saturday!!Thank fvck for that
Zingari Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 Won't blood stains from dishing out good kickings show up more ?
macca Posted 1 August 2013 Author Posted 1 August 2013 This thread is baffling. It's a thread about the colour of someone's socks! Does it really matter? No, of course it doesn't. What matters is what type of socks the copper was wearing, surely? Were they short white cotton socks, white sports socks, white football socks or maybe even those thick off-white fishing socks?? Now you'll never know!
