Homeless World Cup kicks off August 11th

Thanks for that. I am sure the majority of the comments  have been in fun. I know I get worked up sometimes with the replies but after calming down I smile too.

Unfortunately the media does not help. One of the problems with charities in the field of under-privileged people is that they rely on council funding as well as donations. If they say too much in protest the funding may be cut further. They say you don't bite the hand that feeds you.

One example is this weekend. It  is Your Leicester. The market section used to be independently run but now the council have taken charge of it. charities etc having to apply for a space. DNO have applied but so far have not had even a reply. Could it be that we will be a thorn in their plans for a 'Isn't everything wonderful day.

Aldo work starts on the Jubilee Square around the 27th. The company contracted for the work are from Rochdale.

We intend doing a report on their apparent refusal and headline it with Not Your Leicester Day - Leicester Charity for the Homeless ejected from an open day promoting good work done by charities.

We would rather be independent and get things done than play follow the leader.

Jordon may have hit on the reason why Brazil won the competition. A lot of Brazil's homeless live close to beaches on which they practice their skills. A lot of their top players grew up playing on sand. Not all the players are homeless though. A chap I work with is about to move into his own place after spending time in an hostel after he suffered a breakdown caused through a relationship  To day he expressed interest in trying for the team for next year. Not sure where it is yet. He will have to pass a few trials and go to regular training sessions. They don't just pick them up off the streets and then transport them to the venue. That would be stupid for anyone to think this. They have to want to play and be willing to put in some hard work to be selected just like normal footballers but without the huge wages and the mansions. They have further to go up before they start to come down.

Thanks to this World Cup, Brazil is looking like the favorites for the next Homeless World Cup as they have cleared out a few favelas and evicted a lot of people from the slums their homes there.

No offence to you Jordan. Thought the change more apt. They might have been slums but they were also homes that they no longer have.

8 winners? What kind of sham is this

I think it was the backers and sponsors giving their own individual awards. Similar to Man of the Match, Top Goal Scorer, Best Goal, Best Save, Best Hairstyle etc.

If it helps them reevaluate themselves and change their lives it can only be good.

Ken, it's a real shame people have missed your message with this.

I think it is fantastic that football is being used to give younger people who have been through crap in their lives, a second chance and a leap pad to better things. The stories on the site are really touching and it is obvious that this tournament has helped thousands of people in the past.

I find it quite offensive having seen friends go through similar situations that people can still be so stereotypical and blind, tarring these people in with your average "tramp" who takes the money earned to the nearest drug centre. As ken has reiterated all through this thread this is for people who have had no choice but to have no where to go.

It's a fantastic thing to have and I am pleased to see that yet again this year it has been a success.

Thanks for the updates ken i have found the tournament very interesting.

Is there an award for best in the box?

What's a drug centre?

You seem to have focused on two words in an excellent post by Foxhateram and turned it into a negative which ironically backs up the points that Foxhateram made.

Is there an award for best in the box?

Is there an award for the best allotment in the FIFA World Cup?

Well done to the England women tramps for bringing home the Cup of Equality. Is it ironic that they'll now come home to a country which provides them with a free flat and spending money while competitors from other countries will go home and have to get a job before they could dream of such luxury? I don't know. But well done all the same. This rivals '66 for me.

Think I've got more chance when drunk but I like cryptic Ken. It's a bit like playing Sudoku with a blindfold.

seems a popular game on here

It is hard to take offense with Moose when his contribution to a thread is like the one quoted by Charl91

A few words stick out 'women tramps' 'equality'  ironic'   Then it gets funnier.
