I've never met a Riley, Mia or Riley though. What do we think of Muhammed being number 2 overall, top in London? Obviously with it being the DM the comments are largely hostile to that statistic but I'd imagine a significant proportion of the UK population would also be unhappy with it (to be honest, I'd probably count myself too). This comment struck me though 'My nan, from the East End, will be turning in her grave at that statistic'. I can say exactly the same about my grandparents if they saw Leicester City centre now. Opinions?

separator Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 There was a kid on the bus the other day called Chardonay. Parents were a couple of teenage chavs, Dad even had a can of stella on the go. No surprise about Mohammed, not even going to read the DM comments about that, i'm sure we know what they will be saying.
Rincewind Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 I question the accuarcy of the findings. How many white English people are called Muhammed? Very few I would think so are they hinting that we are overun by foreigners who would name their sons that name? Just what the DM readers ordered. Maybe we in the UK have a larger variety of names than some cultures.
Webbo Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 I question the accuarcy of the findings. How many English people are called Muhammid? Very few I would think so are they hinting that we are overun by foreigners who would name their sons that name? Just what the DM readers ordered. Maybe we in the UK have a larger variety of names than some cultures. Three different spellings of the name are listed in the top 100 names for boys from the Office for National Statistics. The most common is Muhammad, which is in 19th place on the table. Mohammed comes 26th and Mohammad is in 60th place. You don't actually think the DM compile these figures themselves do you?

Guest MattP Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 You have to love the fact Ken has just accidently slipped it out he doesn't regard brown people as English.
21st Century Fox Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 A classic kentribution right there I knew I should've copyrighted Kentribution©.
Rincewind Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 You have to love the fact Ken has just accidently slipped it out he doesn't regard brown people as English. I think you know what I meant. Anyway I invalidated that with the second part. The white English have a wider variety of names available to them. This reduces the chance of any being the most popular. With the non-white English or non COE traditional names are still used in line with their faith. You will still find Jacob and Joseph used in the Jewish faith more than Fred or George or even Kenneth (which I have heard means handsome in Scottish) I am quite aware there are non white English, i was looking at things from a broader angle to see how they came up with the results they did.
ADK Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 You can say a name isn't English without implying someone with that name is not English.
MooseBreath Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 I knew I should've copyrighted Kentribution©. Wot. I planted that shiat down months back. I assumed you had stolen it from me.
21st Century Fox Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Wot. I planted that shiat down months back. I assumed you had stolen it from me. Too late, copyright pending. You snooze you lose, I've already got Kentribution© baseball caps, t-shirts and drinks bottles being knocked up in The Philippines. I'll tell you what I'll bring you in for 50% on Duddle Doormats, they're inflatable doormats that double as mattresses for the homeless. You in?
Rincewind Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 You can say a name isn't English without implying someone with that name is not English. Yes I phased my post wrong. I can admit when I make errors.
Guest MattP Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 How many English people are called Mohammid? That's a racist remark. Had an Acooling said that om here he would have been slaughtered.
lavrentis Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Never had Kenny down as a racist. Lock him up and throw away the key.
Charl91 Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 How many English people are called Mohammid? That's a racist remark. Had an Acooling said that om here he would have been slaughtered. He's right, though only because Mohammid isn't actually a name.

Fox92 Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 Every time I see picture of that Harry Styles, I want to punch the screen. Glad to see my names made the list, is traditional though.
ADK Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 He's right, though only because Mohammid isn't actually a name. It is actually a variation on the spelling.
Rincewind Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 He's right, though only because Mohammid isn't actually a name. But it was down as the second most popular name by the DM. I edited my OP. People are being picky. I am not and never will be a racist.
ADK Posted 12 August 2013 Posted 12 August 2013 No-one's calling you a racist Ken, it's just the right wing posse having a joke amongst themselves. They don't actually care.
