pleatout Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 You asked for it!! Yann Kermogant handles the ball just outside our box. You blow for a freekick. Big Wes shapes to lump it up field. Kasper yells to him "roll it back to me and I'll launch a moving ball" Wes takes the free kick and does as asked and plays it back to Kasper. It's a bit too firm, it hits a divot, horrible bobble, Kasper takes an air shot, rolls past Kasper into the back of the net. You blow - what are you giving?
Harry - LCFC Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 It's a direct freekick if it was a handball so it has to be a goal doesn't it? Corner if indirect.
Jimmy Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 It's a direct freekick if it was a handball so it has to be a goal doesn't it? Corner if indirect. Wouldn't matter about direct or not it's an own goal
Harry - LCFC Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Wouldn't matter about direct or not it's an own goal If it's an idirect freekick and it goes it isn't a goal. Pretty sure I'm right.
Jimmy Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 If it's an idirect freekick and it goes it isn't a goal. Pretty sure I'm right. Not you OWN goal it doesn't direct is about shooting at their goal it's just a ****ed up back pass so own goal
Fox92 Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Freekick isn't it considering you've blown for the freekick in the first place? Where's an expert like Deadman when you need him!?
Harry - LCFC Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Not you OWN goal it doesn't Wikipedia: "A goal may NOT be scored directly from an indirect free kick, rather it must be touched by a second player before a goal can be scored. If the ball goes in goal directly from an indirect free kick, a goal kick is awarded to the defending team. If the ball goes into the kicker's own goal from an indirect free kick, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team."
Jimmy Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Never use Wikipedia as a source anyone can edit it
Harry - LCFC Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Never use Wikipedia as a source anyone can edit it Read it twice before in other football books. Not official sources but can't imagine they'd lie. Still confident I'm right and I'll keep looking for it.
Carl the Llama Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Never use Wikipedia as a source anyone can edit it Wikipedia's pretty well policed so I'd say it's a reliable source. Plus I'd put money on you having used it as a source yourself at some point. Either way though, in this case you're wrong and wikipedia is right: http://www.fifa.com/aboutfifa/footballdevelopment/technicalsupport/refereeing/laws-of-the-game/law/newsid=1290870.html
Jimmy Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Read it twice before in other football books. Not official sources but can't imagine they'd lie. Still confident I'm right and I'll keep looking for it. If you are it would be just another stupid law in football, along with injured players having to go off after treatment
Tedders Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 the ball wasn't static when wes took the free kick ... make him take it again

pleatout Posted 1 September 2013 Author Posted 1 September 2013 Law 13 Free kicks "If a direct free kick is kicked directly into the team’s own goal, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team" Oooooh it's a corner. Never had it and don't want it. There'll be a riot. But there it is. Handball = direct freekick if it were an indirect free kick it is still a corner
Harry - LCFC Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 If you are it would be just another stupid law in football, along with injured players having to go off after treatment To be honest I actually agree with it as it fits with the first part. Don't think you should be allowed to score an own goal if you can't score a normal one, it's still a goal regardless of where it's scored - bit like not scoring directly from a throw in. Yeah it's stupid to put it in your own net but the rules have to be consistent. And yeah the guy above me has just cited the FA's website so that confirms it. Understand that it is an odd rule then and can see why you'd question it.
pleatout Posted 1 September 2013 Author Posted 1 September 2013 And the next one is 89th minute, 1 nil up at Wembley against F*rest in the Cup final. Waggy [he's come on as sub] takes a corner. He decides to waste time he's going to lump it back to Kasper. Yes, you've guessed it. He over hits it, bobble, airshot and in the back of the net. What are you giving this time?
Renart Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Wouldn't matter about direct or not it's an own goal Anyway, it is a direct fee kick so it has to be a goal. Right?
Jimmy Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 You can score direct from a corner so this has to be an OG Anyway, it is a direct fee kick so it has to be a goal. Right?Yes
Harry - LCFC Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Goal. You can score in the opponent's goal off a corner so you must be able to score in your own net.

Renart Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Anyway, it is a direct fee kick so it has to be a goal. Right? WRONG X Sorry, bit late reading the answer. Must do better 0/1.
pleatout Posted 1 September 2013 Author Posted 1 September 2013 You can score direct from a corner so this has to be an OG Yes You can indeed score directly from a corner. You can score from a direct free kick - but as we have already found, you cant score an own goal from a direct free kick. Can you score an own goal from a corner?
The Doctor Posted 1 September 2013 Posted 1 September 2013 Yeah, first is corner if indirect, OG if direct, second is OG. I assume this thread has some sort of "you're all hypocrites and need to lay off the twunt in black yesterday" point?
