Larry_LCFC Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-24056893 Two 12-year-old boys have been banned from every football ground in the UK for their part in violence that followed Newcastle United's home game with Sunderland in April. The boys admitted throwing missiles during trouble that marred the aftermath of Sunderland's 3-0 win. They were handed into police by their parents after media reports on the disorder, Newcastle Youth Court heard. The pair, who cannot be named, received three-year football banning orders. District Judge Stephen Earl told them: "I hope you've got a television at home because you won't be going anywhere near a football match for a long time." The boys, both from Newcastle, are banned from the city centre on match days and will have to surrender their passports whenever Newcastle or England play overseas. Not quite sure what to make of this. Should 12 year old boys be going to football matches on their own in the first place? Is three years harsh? Personally I would ban them for their entire teenage years atleast. Should be ashamed of themselves.
I am Rod Hull Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 They should ban everyone under 20, over 60, students and females.
I am Rod Hull Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 And people who wear full kits or clown wigs. Sri Lankan cricket grounds would be empty...
DennisNedry Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 They should ban everyone under 20, over 60, students and females. If you ban everyone under 20 and over 60, we'll have no fans at all in 40 years time

Should be ashamed of themselves. Think it's a bit harsh personally, they've effectively been given what any adult would in that situation. At that age you can't expect all kids to have the maturity to do the right thing and in a volatile, crowd situation, I can see how easily someone that age may get caught up in picking up a few things and lobbing them just like everyone else around. The more important question for me is how come these parents were responsible enough to turn them in yet irresponsible enough to let them go to matches unaccompanied at the age of 13 originally? I personally think that the sanctions imposed on those with banning orders are too harsh anyway. I mean two thirteen year old kids having to hand their passports in everytime England play away from home?! Ridiculous (Newcastle playing away in Europe is unlikely to be too much of a problem!)

Kitchandro Posted 11 September 2013 Posted 11 September 2013 The passport thing is totally stupid. As for 3 years ban from matches, meh, by the time they're 15/16 they'll be going again. I didn't start regularly watching Leicester (or going to games without a parent) until I was 16/17. It's not the end of the world. On the other hand kids throwing stuff is hardly rare, in fact that kind of petty violence is in most young boys nature. If they'd have got a good ticking off and a small fine I wouldn't have thought it lenient. I bet pretty much every young lad threw stuff in the kop in the 80s. It was frowned upon not to. And it's not like they all turned into scumbags. I did some idiotic things myself when I was young. Boys will be boys.

Fox92 Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 Nobody should be banned automatically. It doesn't matter what age you are, or how many games you get to, you still support the football club. However, I have no sympathy for people that get banned for incidents like this. I understand rivalries like Newcastle/Sunderland are massive, but when people start throwing objects (the other year they threw seats) then do the time. I personally do think three years is harsh, but let's hope they don't do it again. I like to go to the football, support my football team and go home again. The amount of times I see people just starring at oppositions fans is endless, I don't get why people do it really.
Voll Blau Posted 12 September 2013 Posted 12 September 2013 Never ceases to amaze me how differently "football-related" offences are treated from others.

Why can't they just build special booths in town where people can come and glare at people because they live over 10 miles away - should sort things out! Full of good ideas, me!
