Danno Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Barcelona is really good you going with a partner or friends if you don't mind me asking? I'd love to go New York especially around Christmas time.Going with mates for about a week. Where's best to go?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 There was a thread for 2013, so thought I'd start this years. Plus it's quite nice to talk about and plan holidays while we're in the grim mid-January. Where is everyone heading? I've already sorted something out for Easter, heading to Stockholm, Oslo & Copenhagen and thinking of travelling a bit in Central Europe (Prague, Budapest, some places in Germany etc) in the summer. Any recommendations regarding Scandinavia? Yep don't drink in Scandinavia or do what I did and fill ya hand luggage up with a few bottles of JD before you get there. Oslo I didn't rate but Stockholm and Copenhagen are amazing. Do a river cruise in both cities and hire a bike in both cities great way to get around and everyone else is doing it. In Copenhagen I recommend you heading in the hippy commune in the middle of the city, it's name escapes me but you will hear about it. Also it's the only time I would recommend staying out of the city more due to how expensive it is unless you find a decent backpackers. I stayed at holiday parks with both had big lakes and had a small cabin was great swimming in the lake after a long day and watching sunsets from there. Spent my birthday in Andalsnese in Norway best scenery I've seen right on the door step of the fjords. Worth checking out if u have time.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 . If, like some of our members on here, you are keen on the 'Herb' then you need to visit a place called Christiania. Weed etc is brazenly displayed on tables for you to choose your drug and smoke it in relative peace. I did get warned to put my camera away as it makes the residents twitchy. I took a few sneaky shots from the hip but wouldn't recommend this. Christiania is a sort-of "free state" within Copenhagen and I believe the Danish law doesn't really apply there. Or something!! I'm sure someone will come along and correct me. You see people with put-bulls etc, I guess to protect their 'businesses'. In Copenhagen I recommend you heading in the hippy commune in the middle of the city, it's name escapes me but you will hear about it. .That'll be Christiania then!!!!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 That'll be Christiania then!!!! That's the one, the whole place smells of weed! The Brownies were lovely! You can buy as much as you like in there and take it with you if you wish.
Haydos Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Nothing booked yet, but i fancy turkey. Anyone been ?. Yes! I went with my parents when I was younger but I think we stayed near Fethiye. Had a great time and the best thing was going out on the boat. It's on the coast so if you're going anywhere near there arrange for a tour of the local lagoons. This guy took us out on his boat with a full fridge of beer, he caught fish for us and bbq'd them and taxi'd us around the coast til the evening, it was amazing. We got to swim in loads of lagoons, eat fresh bbq'd fish and sunbathe on lonely boats. Perfect day, get one if you can, shouldn't be too hard to find.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 The Brownies were lovely! Bit of a moot point on here, but I hear ya. I went for the graffiti.
Uncle Albert Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I've got a lot planned, not the most adventurous of travelers but I know I will have a good time. Benidorm in April for a stag do. Ibizia in June/July with mates. Cancun in August for my Uncle's 50th, 20 of us going. Sandilands, near Skeggy on a Golf trip with my Sunday club in October. Bank manager isnt going to be happy.

Any recommendations regarding Scandinavia? Keep an eye on the weather forecast. At that time of year, it'll probably not be that warm & maybe even a touch of snow still on the ground in places, takes quite a while to fully melt. If you're going out for a drink in Stockholm, avoid Ostermalm it's stupidly expensive even by Swedish standards. Sodermalm's better. Sightseeing-wise the Vasa museum's really good. Probably a bit too early to hire a rowing boat and definitely won't be weather for going swimming in the lakes. Depending on how much time you've got, there are a few towns that might be worth a day-trip depending on what sort of things you like, but there's probably plenty to see & do around the main cities if you've only got a week.

Any idea what Benidorm is actually like? i can't imagine it being anywhere other than the tv show...
Uncle Albert Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Any idea what Benidorm is actually like? i can't imagine it being anywhere other than the tv show... I've never been before, I have the image of Blackpool with Sun, I hated Blackpool..
VLC86 Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Just got back from Sharm El Sheikh so that's probably my only holiday this year. Already booked next years, 2 weeks skiing in Whistler Canada
Uncle Albert Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I really wanted to go Canada in October but this family holiday to Cancun knocked that on the head. Next year Canada is a must, always wanted to go, there and Chicago for some reason.
VLC86 Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Going with mates for about a week. Where's best to go? Barca is awesome. Iv been a couple of times, the 2nd time we booked an apartment right near Las Ramblas which was a very decent price but did get noisy at night. I went to Madrid last year and Barcelona has so much more to do/see and is much nicer with the added advantage of having a beach
Soar Fox Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Going with mates for about a week. Where's best to go? We only went for 3 nights, we had tickets to see Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds but didn't make it as we were steaming in some Irish bar. There's lots of places to go at night we drank round the harbour the first night, very nice with lots of bars but it's very exoensive. There's a decent nightclub called Razzmatazz which plays all different kinds of music. Just be careful of pick pockets and the prostitutes out there.
Haydos Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I've never been before, I have the image of Blackpool with Sun, I hated Blackpool.. I literally have the tv show as a starting point I can't begin to imagine! Good luck Maybe there'll be loads of filthy birds!
Soar Fox Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I literally have the tv show as a starting point I can't begin to imagine! Good luck Maybe there'll be loads of filthy birds! A load of mid 30's hen do's out there. It's bloody brilliant.
Haydos Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 A load of mid 30's hen do's out there. It's bloody brilliant. Is it really? It must be the 50/50 of brilliant and disgusting!
Merging Cultures Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I'm off to Cambodia in March. Belfast for the 12th of July. South Korea in November and probably Germany between Belfast and Korea. I wouldn't mind seeing St. Pauli play when I'm in Germany.Cambodia is brilliant. I used to go there for work. A British/American friend of mine still lives there.I didn't do too many tourist things though. Mostly sitting in meetings and traveling in to the interior. But I did go to the palace and some of the memorials.
Merging Cultures Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Nothing booked yet, but i fancy turkey. Anyone been ?. Been to Istanbul, probably one of the best city holidays I've had. Up there with Barcelona and Cape Town. Lots to see and do. My wife was working and I was with our daughter who was 1 and a half at the time. She had a blast too. We rented an apartment. Cheaper than a hotel with more amenities.
Alexikokopops Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I'm tapped for leave at present so only got a week away with the Lads for a racing carnival. Then maybe towards the end of the year UK if we are in the prem and maybe a week in China or Japan.Plastic
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 NZ no doubt you will fly on to Auckland spend a couple of days there and then a couple of days getting from there to Wellington via Roturuia. Then spend 3 weeks on the South Island where there is better scenery. I'm tapped for leave at present so only got a week away with the Lads for a racing carnival. Then maybe towards the end of the year UK if we are in the prem and maybe a week in China or Japan. Only if Leicester are in the Prem, eh? Good job we don't rely on your support then for our success then.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Was last there in 2010, there are other places I would prefer to go but it's been a long time since Prem football so might have to make the journey. And Alex yes it will need to be paid for using plastic haha. Col it's probably better that way it took my 10th game to see my first win!
Deucalion Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 In July I'm off to Belgium on my bike for a week. Good place to explore several different countries in one trip. Never ridden on the continent properly so should be a good experience. (Toured around Ireland on an RD350 and hired a moped in Magaluf, but not the same thing !!) In August my other half gets her way and we are going to bake ourselves silly in Turkey. We are staying at a hotel close to the beach in Olu Deniz, which is my favourite place in Turkey. I think Turkey is great personally. It is cheap, friendly, very hot, has fantastic scenery and has historic sights popping up all over the place.

Deucalion Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 What did you get in the end mate? We're both getting our way. July on the bike, August on one of Stavros' finest !!
