Buda is very cultural while Pest is the livelier part of town. Some great clubs but be careful if you hit the strip bars, you can run up a lot of money if you aren't careful!

When I did it last year I went with Wizz Air. Be careful with them - there are two levels of hand luggage - small (which is free) and large (which is roughly the size you get on things like Easyjet and Ryanair). You have to pay for large. It still worked out cheaper for us, but it can screw you over if you're not careful. By far the easiest way though is to use a comparison site. Skyscanner will do most of the hard work for you. Having a look on here will give you a bit more advice on which other ones to use after that, although Skyscanner will cover most. When I find the cheapest airline I tend to book with them directly to be safe. You can also use this budget flight checker, where you put in a date range and a destination (or let it choose anywhere if you're feeling WILD). It will hunt out the cheaper flights.

That was at the higher end of the price though - we were pretty restricted with the times because of my girlfriend's job so just flew out on a Friday after work and came back on a Sunday evening. It was the cheapest going for 6 weeks in advance (at those times of day). That said, we had the advantage of 5 London airports (if you include "London Southend" as a London airport!) to choose from which probably helped. That was last June. Might be worth looking into flights from Luton. Wizz Air are based there so it's another airline, and it's a direct train from Leicester (I think).

Thanks! Any hotel recommendations? We stayed in a nice hotel up on the hill next to the castle called Hotel Questenberk, overlooking the old town. It was about 10-15 minutes walk to Charles Bridge (downhill on the way in, up hill back). Had great views (including from a mini outside terrace) and we quite enjoyed the walk in. Depends what you're after though. That was just the ticket for me (since I was on a nice weekend away with my girlfriend) but there's probably places closer to town if you're after something different. Oh, and while you're out there, keep an eye out for the shops that sell Russian dolls of every sport team imaginable. They have them for all the teams in the Football League, some in the conference, then they go on to European teams, American football/soccer/hockey/basketball, international rugby teams, etc. You name it, they probably have it. I came back with the Leicester one with some fine depictions of Nugent, Knockaert, Dyer, Konchesky and King while my girlfriend went for the Welsh rugby one

I'm not going for anything mental, just a place I've wanted to go and visit, i'll save the other kind of Prague for a stag do.

There's plenty forecast for the next week. I've got a three day weekend and I was thinking of going to some city like Belgrade or Zagreb but I might just hibernate and listen to Radio Leicester with a cuppa.

The weekend after the stag i have another one in Blackpool which apparently 95 people have been invited and he is fully expecting 50 to go - I'm actually not looking forward to it surely that amount of people wont work on a stag?! guess will just go with the flow. Then decided i may need a break after the wedding so booked 2 weeks in turkey in October. Any one ever been in October before will it still be hot? the misses loves the sun and is worried it wont be.

You should still get temperatures In the early to mid 20s and the sun will be out for majority of the time. At that time of year, it's inevitable that you'll get a couple of rainy and cloudy days but it'll be 4 or 5 at max so for two weeks you should be fine. I don't know when you're in October but a lot of activities and those kind of things won't be running at the end of the month

Mack Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Sofia is a nice city. Not in the winter (it's cold and shit right now) but in the summer it's good, outdoor cafes and pretty laid back lifestyle. There are some old churches and museums although I'm not sure if it's as 'interesting' as places like Istanbul or Prague. There is a mountain next to it which is quite refreshing, it's quite easy to walk or get a chair lift up. The beach resorts get a bit of a raw deal, I've only been to some smaller beaches near the Turkish border that are beautiful but the infrastructure is poor. The more developed resorts are nice enough but quite overdone. Sunny Beach has a reputation for lary shagging Brits that isn't really deserved. The mountain ranges are beautiful. I dedicate most weekends to walking around mountains and taking photos. The South of the contry near Greece is just stunning but again getting there and getting around isn't easy. I'd recommend it for serious hikers. Bulgaria is one of those places that is great if you have time and your own transport to see some beautiful, unspoilt places but if you want a package seaside break then maybe Turkey or Greece would be better. An interesting read. What about Varna? I've been thinking of going there for a while, can you do a beach come town / city break there more easily? It looks nice, and flights seem to go directly there.

It looks nice, and flights seem to go directly there. It's the one part of Bulgaria I don't know, but it seems like a nice city. I don't think the beach there would be anything to write home about but I've heard the coast north of Varna is nice. Like I said I know the southern part of the coast very well, around Burgas. The infrastructure is a bit under-developed but you can find some beautiful spots if you have your own transport.
