Only plans at this stage - Wave Rock for a 3 days of days (only 4-5 hours drive from home so not too big there).... and then Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the NT, so a bit more time and cost in that one.

I was on 42nd & 5th although the Chelsea Star Hotel was a sh!t hole...don't go there. Broadway is not far from Times Square. I walked to Battery Park from TS (catch the ferry to Statue of Liberty) When I went, it was ~$50 plus tolls for a taxi from the airport to Manhattan. I got a $13 bus ticket back to the airport from Port Authority which is very close to where I was. If you're going to do the Empire State/Radio City/Statue of Liberty then seriously consider a pass. It gets you into about 5 attractions and saves a serious wedge. Biggest tip...Go to Boston MA instead! Much nicer, LOTS more history, nicer people. A great, great city with a really nice feel to it. Obviously, you want to go to NY because it's normal for people to go there, but next time, give Boston a consideration. I'll try to think of other stuff for NY.

I found Paris reasonable in terms of cost. I'm not sure if that's because I'd not long been back from Geneva where I paid over £24 for two Big Mac meals (seriously) (and no I don't normally eat McDonalds before anyone asks). I can see why there's love for Paris. Such a beautiful city.

I stayed at the Sol Trinidad last year. Nice hotel, 5 minute walk to the strip. Just got to be careful of the prostitutes around there though, my friend got robbed by one of them whilst passed out in the bushes.

The fact I've probably seen more in foreign cities than my own capital is a little embarrassing . Anyone have any decent or different places to see/go other than the obvious? Or decent places to stay, before I start looking at that side.
Ric Flair Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I went Rome last year and didn't think it was that bad, you could have a lasagne and a beer for 10 euros, okay they stuck 3 euros service charge on top of that which I thought was a bit of a con but I didn't think it was any more of a rip off than London. That's interesting because I found it to be scandalous if you wanted anything to eat or drink near the main toursit attractions.. If you travelled a bit further out then it was a bit more reasonable but still expensive. I've found that in lots of european cities where there's quite a disparity with prices in the obviously busy places and slightly further out, but I don't find that in London. A pint will cost you £4.40 in the horribly busy places like Leicester Square and it'll cost you about £4.20-4.40 pretty much everywhere else in the city. If you go to the suburbs you might get it a bit cheaper but it's much of a muchness. Food quite similar. Perhaps I just don't frequent the touristy areas, which I try not to but I have been to the odd pub/restaurant in these places and never seen a big difference.

But it's pretty much £3.90+ a pint in Leicestershire where wages are way lower than London so in my opinion London is reasonable. Now you'd not be wanting a £4.40 pint up in Barnsley or Grimsby unless it noshed you off as well but there's not many places in England now that's below £3.50 for a decent pint

In all fairness if you venture into town for a pint round here you'd end up paying £3+. Local boozers round by ours are £2.50 - £3 for pretty much any pint or like £2.20 if you want to try and stomach a pint of Carling or something equally as offensive haha. As for holidays I think I'm going interrailing with a group of 6 or 7 mates in July. Very basic early plans are to fly to Amsterdam, start off their, spend 2 or 3 days/nights in Amsterdam, somewhere in Germany, Krakow, Prague, Budapest and finally somewhere beachy in Croatia before flying back. Planning on about 15-20 days or so, anyone got any must dos for any of them places? Or any major don'ts as a group of 7 or 8 boys from Liverpool. Ideally don't wanna get arrested or die. That's about the only aim really

That's about the only aim really Pal, that sounds an absolute dream, been wanting to do a skirmish round eastern europe for ages now and nearly booked it for this summer but going SA in November for 3 weeks instead. Go for it!!!

None of us are too fussed about anything touristy, just wanna sample the ales and scran all round Europe for some nice cheap prices, get pissed up and see how many of us make the next train haha. 3 weeks in SA isn't a bad fall back plan tho mate!

I was at the Don Juan last year which was OK. Quite small, but it was cheap. Hopefully doing Mallorca Rocks this year, but apparently you can't bring anyone back. Should make my money back from the self catering with the gigs there.

Hahahaaa that's the spirit. I went Krakow and parts of Poland last year and went to one tourist attraction..... Auschwitz and that was the pits. It's all about getting larrupsed and i'd class myself as quite a cultural man but sometimes you need a gig where it's all about the piss.

That's about the only aim really Split is a great city. Beautiful place, short boat ride to some islands, friendly people, good pubs and bars. Also direct flights back to UK. Great football stadium too, and there's usually Europa league qualifying rounds about that time!

Go for it!!! I love Eastern Europe. Ric, stick Bratislava on your list...that's fine for 3 or 4 days. You can also catch a ferry to Vienna from Bratislava. Loved it there and I thought Vienna was nicer than Barcelona. I've been to Gdansk in the north of Poland. That's a decent place to go if anyone always fancies something different from the usual suspects i.e Krakow, Warsaw etc.

We're staying at the Marriott Marquis in times sq. it was £1500 for a week so it better be good. It's got those cool elevators and 1,900 rooms so expecting it to be big. We have already booked to see New York nicks and a show on Broadway. The brewery tour sounds good, I'll do that when the mrs is seeing some bullshit sex and the city thing

pSinatra Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I'll second that - Boston's great, and very relaxed for a city of its size I've got family in Boston & have been several times. I've also been to New York. Boston is fantastic & very welcoming. It is nothing like New York but I would recommend them both. Boston people I find genuinely friendly & it's easy to get around. Hanover Street (& surrounding area) is good for small bars & restaurants. One of the best things & a unique way of seeing the city are the Duck Tours. You get on an ex WWII amphibious vehicle - half the tour through Boston & the rest in the Charles River. It's got an Apocalypse Now feel about it (without the napalm). New York is great but every fooker seems to be on the make. It's an expensive place to be & if a New Yorker spots a weakness & a chance to rip you off.....they probably will. I lost count of the number of times someone tried to short-change me. The person I was with kept describing the place as "the armpit of society". I knew exactly what she meant, but it's just one of those places you've got to visit. I loved it!! I stayed in Chinatown/ Little Italy. There's better places to stay, but hotels are a bit pricey. Got to see a lot of places we didn't really intend on seeing........as we found the Subway virtually impossible to understand.

The city is piss easy to get around in, I'm a sucker for landmarks and architecture so I made up my own "tour" of stuff I wanted to see and off I went and did it. I remember a New Yorker I knew at the time saying "don't go above 100th street. There's nothing to see and you will get shot" but our hotel was on 103rd so we had to ignore him. I survived though.
