Webbo Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Hopefully going to Seville for a week in Easter. Watch the Betis - Seville derby and their 'Semana Santa' holy week festival will be on which is meant to be interesting. Skint at the moment but fingers crossed I can get away in the Summer too. I was in Benidorm during Easter once and you're right it is interesting. It's a procession of blokes dressed up like the Klu Klux Klan carrying statues of saints. I found it fascinating but it's not for everyone.
lavrentis Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Uni mate from Athens invited me over for 2 weeks in June so saved me a bit on accommodation In July as well an idea was brought forward to go on a road trip round the UK. I got invited a long so might do that as well
deejdeej Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Where do you lot get your money from?!? Hopefully a week in ibiza and maybe a few days in sept oct somewhere hot if im lucky.
bovril Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Going back to Skopelos island in Greece where I was last summer. It was absolutely stunning and the food was amazing. I also really want to go to Georgia as it looks beautiful. Has anybody been to Bulgaria? Tempted to go there. Yo, I live in Sofia. Where were you thinking, seaside resort or mountain? Somewhere warm with some culture? Tennerife and all that are great for what they are but there's not a lot to them in terms of actual sightseeing. Ideas? Turkey maybe. Plenty of natural beauty and amazing history.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Lucky you!!! Some great places there. Only place I have been to is USA, to about 15 cities, so you will have to narrow it down. Yeah, just a week in New York - might get over to Boston for a day or two if there's anything worth seeing/doing there?
Soar Fox Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Has anybody been to Bulgaria? Tempted to go there. You've been watching Sunny Beach on channel 4 haven't you.
MooseBreath Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Brazil for the World Cup for 5 weeks then... Uruguay (1 week) Chile (3.5 weeks) Bolivia (1.5 weeks) Colombia (3.5 weeks) Ecuador (3 weeks) USA (1 week) New Zealand (4 weeks) Thailand and surround (5 weeks) Just a little holiday! Seriously though, if any FTers have been to any of these countries your tips on where to go and what to do would be greatly appreciated You win buddy. That will be absolutely superb. Sounds like quite a lot of time on the road though. My advice, don't try to cram in too many sites. When you've got a bit of time it's better to travel slow, so you can start to scratch below the surface - that's when it gets really interesting in those kind of places.
Merging Cultures Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 We will pop through Leicester for a few days on our way to Jamaica. Might try to get to Mozambique or Botswana for a rest too.
ADK Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Yo, I live in Sofia. Where were you thinking, seaside resort or mountain? I'm not sure honestly. Would be a summer trip. Is Sofia worth visiting? What is the best beach resort? Are there mountains you can walk up? How expensive is it compared to the UK? You've been watching Sunny Beach on channel 4 haven't you. No, maybe I should.
cambridgefox Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Try Hamburg instead of Amsterdam, both have similar delights!Reeperbahn!i arrived on the day St Pauli played Hamburg and to say the atmosphere was dodgy was an understatement.Needed some shows to calm the nerves.

Not sure if he is still on that username or not though but I know he's travelled a lot.Me and Leicester Lass booked a week in Alcudia in September yesterday, and we're off to centre parcs in October as well.

It's a procession of blokes dressed up like the Klu Klux Klan carrying statues of saints. I found it fascinating but it's not for everyone. Yep I've seen videos of it in the past and it looks crazy! Seville has one of the more famous ones too.
Stuliasz Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Got 19 leave days to use between now and the end of March. Was thinking of two weeks in South East Asia, maybe Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, and a week from Jordan to Egypt, specifically Petra to Cairo. Really feeling a you only live once mentality at the moment! That trip of Freeman's Wharfer looks immense! If you have the money and time in Ecuador, would strongly recommend a trip to the Galapagos. It's hugely expensive these days but like living on another planet.

How expensive is it compared to the UK? No, maybe I should. Sofia is a nice city. Not in the winter (it's cold and shit right now) but in the summer it's good, outdoor cafes and pretty laid back lifestyle. There are some old churches and museums although I'm not sure if it's as 'interesting' as places like Istanbul or Prague. There is a mountain next to it which is quite refreshing, it's quite easy to walk or get a chair lift up. The beach resorts get a bit of a raw deal, I've only been to some smaller beaches near the Turkish border that are beautiful but the infrastructure is poor. The more developed resorts are nice enough but quite overdone. Sunny Beach has a reputation for lary shagging Brits that isn't really deserved. The mountain ranges are beautiful. I dedicate most weekends to walking around mountains and taking photos. The South of the contry near Greece is just stunning but again getting there and getting around isn't easy. I'd recommend it for serious hikers. Bulgaria is one of those places that is great if you have time and your own transport to see some beautiful, unspoilt places but if you want a package seaside break then maybe Turkey or Greece would be better.

Mickey O'Neil Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 There was a thread for 2013, so thought I'd start this years. Plus it's quite nice to talk about and plan holidays while we're in the grim mid-January. Where is everyone heading? I've already sorted something out for Easter, heading to Stockholm, Oslo & Copenhagen and thinking of travelling a bit in Central Europe (Prague, Budapest, some places in Germany etc) in the summer. Any recommendations regarding Scandinavia? Copenhagen is one of the most expensive places I've visited but don't let that put you off. I'm 99% sure there is a train inside the airport that goes directly to the city. There's millions of bicycles in the city!! The Danish Resistance Museum is well worth a visit if that's your thing. The Carlsberg factory tour is decent as well (better than the Guinness tour...not as good tasting though!!) That's probably the cheapest beer you'll have as well. I'm pretty sure I paid about £7 to get in and there was a 'Free' beer at the end. I'm certain beer was £8 - £9 a pint in the pubs in the city. I paid £40 for four White Russians. If, like some of our members on here, you are keen on the 'Herb' then you need to visit a place called Christiania. Weed etc is brazenly displayed on tables for you to choose your drug and smoke it in relative peace. I did get warned to put my camera away as it makes the residents twitchy. I took a few sneaky shots from the hip but wouldn't recommend this. Christiania is a sort-of "free state" within Copenhagen and I believe the Danish law doesn't really apply there. Or something!! I'm sure someone will come along and correct me. You see people with put-bulls etc, I guess to protect their 'businesses'. Got 19 leave days to use between now and the end of March. Was thinking of two weeks in South East Asia, maybe Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, and a week from Jordan to Egypt, specifically Petra to Cairo. It's hugely expensive these days but like living on another planet. Ho Chi Minh City is great. I can highly recommend that. I stayed on a street called Bui Vien. It's in the backpacker district although I'm no backpacker. If you do go down Bui Vien, please wear your City shirt! I guarantee a Vietnamese kid will get hyper-excited when he sees it and will probably shout "Lezder Citee! Tonee Coddee, Muzzy Izzet!! If he's wearing a Paddy McCarthy shirt, that was mine!!! A true Vietnamese Leicester fan. A trip to the Mekong Delta is really good and I can highly recommend this. Cheap as chips as well. I shot an AK-47 and an M60 there. My god. I've never heard anything as loud in my life and I was wearing ear defenders. There's SO much to see in Saigon, a great city.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 I'm off to Cambodia in March. Belfast for the 12th of July. South Korea in November and probably Germany between Belfast and Korea. I wouldn't mind seeing St. Pauli play when I'm in Germany.
Tincy Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 Tincy - get yourself to the foxes arms when in alcudia. Good beer n food whilst enjoying the sun, at to top it off all the leicester couple are really good host. First port of call you a girl or a boy? I'm male, why do you ask?
Webbo Posted 17 January 2014 Posted 17 January 2014 The more developed resorts are nice enough but quite overdone. Sunny Beach has a reputation for lary shagging Brits that isn't really deserved. I went last year and I can confirm this. There were lots of pubs crawls, Brits, Germans, Dutch etc going off but I never saw any trouble. It might have been different if we'd been out at 3 in the morning though. Food and drink there is ridiculously cheap there. We had a meal for 5 and a round of drinks for less than £15. The food is a bit bland though so if you like your food a bit spicy take a bottle of tabasco with you.

When you've got a bit of time it's better to travel slow, so you can start to scratch below the surface - that's when it gets really interesting in those kind of places. Yeah, I've been travelling a couple of times before (a 3 month and 4.5 month) but this itinerary is quite tight but it's kind of a last chance to see some places I really want to see in one last big trip! So that means I might have to sacrifice a few places within countries. Got 19 leave days to use between now and the end of March. Was thinking of two weeks in South East Asia, maybe Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, and a week from Jordan to Egypt, specifically Petra to Cairo. Added an extra grand onto my budget just for a week but once in a lifetime kind of thing I guess. Anywhere else in Ecuador you're familiar with? Seems a cool country but don't know anyone who's been before.

Spent a day or two in Quito which is ok and then flew out to the Galapagos. I've heard Guayaquil is quite interesting and our plane to the islands from Quito stopped there but only to pick up some passengers. I get the feeling it's one of those countries with some real hidden gems out in the sticks.

Then spend 3 weeks on the South Island where there is better scenery. I'm tapped for leave at present so only got a week away with the Lads for a racing carnival. Then maybe towards the end of the year UK if we are in the prem and maybe a week in China or Japan.
